DC Area to Fayetteville, NC; Raleigh, and Back...

Nice report! FYI there are a few new chargers that have opened recently, relatively along your route, such as the one on 95 just north of 295 (Richmond) - in Ashland, which is a v3 (much faster than the older v2 in Glen Allen). Also, the North Hills charger in Raleigh is great now - in the same...

Two questions about a new Y

Great list! Additionally, there is a thread that was keeping track of Model Y changes over time (though it's now been about 7-8 months since being last updated) - you might find additional items there - Model Y changes over time

Discussion: Experiences Renting a Tesla Model 3 / Y from various companies

Some of their Teslas (at least the ones I've rented) have Autosteer disabled by default, but it's not blocked and can be selected via the menu (and you see the normal warning screen and need to confirm enabling). Probably makes sense to have this be an explicit opt-in, so that the driver has to...

Discussion: Experiences Renting a Tesla Model 3 / Y from various companies

There are no spare tires in Teslas. If you have a flat, you contact the rental car company's roadside assistance (if you added it to your reservation) or call your own (aaa, insurance company, etc). Some states require flat-fix kits to be included with any vehicle without a spare (such as...

Y Performance Model- Looking for Insights

I don't really see the relevance of who's driving it, whether you or your wife, but... We had a 2020 MYLR w/20" Inductions, and now a 2022 MYP. First thing we did, with less than 3 miles, was swap to 18" aftermarket wheels. The 2022 MYP now has a more comfortable ride than the 2020 MYLR. The...

    PPF installer near Frederick, MD

All American has all the tint level samples, so you can get a pretty good idea if you go in and meet with them. With Model Y, the factory back windows are already tinted, so we had our MYP front windows tinted to match. The Model 3 doesn't have tinted side windows at all (well, it's nominal...

Discussion: Experiences Renting a Tesla Model 3 / Y from various companies

Yup - this is similar to my Hertz experience (documented earlier in this thread), and why I suggested waiting for a human to clear everything and provide a receipt, prior to walking off. I had to call customer service to get my $25 undercharge fee reversed, and it wouldn't have been an issue if...

model Y Performance with downsized wheel to increase range?

Good point. FYI on our MYP's 18" TSportlines, we have the default ones that come with the wheels: Michelin Pilot Sport 4 (245/50-18). This has yielded average 294 wh/mi over about 8,000 miles.
  10. Y_tho

model Y Performance with downsized wheel to increase range?

Hard to give an exact answer, as we traded from a 2020 MYLR w/20" Inductions, and swapped out the MYP's 21" Uberturbine wheels with only 2 miles on the car (the distance from the SC to the shop). But... closing in on 8K miles, with average 294 Wh/mile, including a fair mix of highway and local...
  11. Y_tho

model Y Performance with downsized wheel to increase range?

Yes. All of the available MY wheels fit the MYP. At one point (way back at the start of MY production), there was even a 'stealth' variant MYP with the 19" Gemini. Same with aftermarket wheels from TSportline - all of their 19" (and even 18" now) work on MYP. We have the TSportline 18" TSS on...

    Supercharging an M3 from Hertz

Pretty sure you're referring to my post about Hertz rental in Florida, as I included the return-charge-level policy screenshot. Tl;dr - Supercharging just shows up as a future charge to your credit card, no additional fee, aside from what you spent at the Supercharger. Regarding undercharge fee...

Discussion: Experiences Renting a Tesla Model 3 / Y from various companies

Interesting - is 80% called out in your Hertz rental contract? My contract (also Hertz) specifically stated 70%, (and if I returned it under 70% I'd pay a $35 fee). 80% would have been equally difficult (and time-consuming) for me, as it was an almost-15-minute drive to the airport (FLL) from...

Discussion: Experiences Renting a Tesla Model 3 / Y from various companies

Photos taken via phone have a timestamp embedded as part of their metadata. Also, there's a system clock displayed on the Tesla console, so if you take a pic of the entire screen, you'll have the car-based timestamp as well as the embedded photo timestamp (in addition to battery %).

Discussion: Experiences Renting a Tesla Model 3 / Y from various companies

I don't understand the use case, or how this helps avoid rental fees. If a person checks you in when you return the car, just have them look at the screen (just like with an ICE car when they check fuel amount). If nobody is there (which is what happened in my case), just take a picture of the...

Discussion: Experiences Renting a Tesla Model 3 / Y from various companies

Great tip. That, and also take note (like... take a pic of the screen) of SoC % when returning the car. This is what saved me from a $25 undercharge fee (well... the fee was applied, but then reversed).

    Autopilot Improvements

That's FSD/NoA, which includes auto lane-change. With built-in autosteer (which I believe is what @maskinazi is referring to), you have to manually change lanes, which disengages auto steer, and requires re-engaging (via stalk) after lane change is complete. It would be nice if autosteer could...

    2 MY Household

Our original plan was to get a 2nd Y (an MYP to go alongside the '20 MYLR). Buuuut... we ultimately sold the MYLR (last summer, at the height of resale), and bought an MYP + M3P. It was the right choice for us: we both drive either car interchangeably, though the Y is the definite go-to for 3+...

Consuming 40% more energy than estimated?

This is an underrated comment. The older Model 3, with resistive heater, will have a pronounced increase in energy consumption when the heater is on, compared with the newer models with heat pump. Both my neighbor and the local PPF-shop owner had resistive heat in their M3P's, both now with '22...

    Colored PPF?

The wheels are great, and the 18s really offer a more comfortable ride than the Ubers. Just shy of 7K miles, with lifetime 298wh/mi. Tires are Pilot Sport 4 245/50-18, the only wheel+tire combo sold direct from TSportline for the 18s.

weird, just noticed my MYP was delivered with Michelin Pilot All Seasons instead of Pirelli Pzero summers

People started seeing the A/S tires on MYP around December 2021, but even today, it's a toss-up, whether you get the summer tires or all-season. Our '22 MYP had all-seasons, and the MYP next to ours (on delivery day) had summer performance tires. FYI there is a thread that was tracking Model Y...

Are you paying for premium connectivity?

Most cell plans (at least in the US) have monthly data caps for hotspot use, so this isn't always a cost-effective option. Also, there's the inconvenience of enabling a hotspot every time someone goes out for a drive... multiplied by number of drivers sharing the car...

EV tax credit and EV charger credit

State-level rebates might also be available, independent of federal rebates. For example, Maryland has an EVSE rebate for 40% of the connector+install cost, up to $700 total (funds currently depleted for the fiscal year ending June 30, but they are typically renewed July 1). Electric Vehicle...

Discussion: Experiences Renting a Tesla Model 3 / Y from various companies

The manual is hidden under the Service menu; not really obvious for a 1st-time Tesla driver. And then, even if they did find it, they now have to take the time to read through it before driving off, which could take a while, to find info on general operation. This is why the Hertz approach...

It's in a slotted clearish-plastic badge-holder with the Tesla card inside. Adds a bit of bulk, but protects the card from getting damaged. One downside: the driver-side side pillar, where the sensor is, gets a bit scratched up, as people keep pressing/sliding the plastic case against the car...

Discussion: Experiences Renting a Tesla Model 3 / Y from various companies

Given how new (ok relatively new) Tesla EV rentals are as a normal rental option, I think this thread has value across both 3 and Y rentals, and across different rental companies. I think it's worthy of a more generic title (I'm good with the suggested name) "Yes" vote from me.

    TSportline wheels for Model Y

Ah! Yeah it looks like identical size (and looks like I inadvertently answered that in my last reply).
  33. Y_tho

    TSportline wheels for Model Y

Not sure, but I've seen lots of discussion on this site regarding wider tire sizes - I'm sure there are others who can answer that. FYI the wheel sizes are 21x9.5 (front) and 21x10.5 (rear), with staggered setup, both with OEM wheels and with TSportline wheels.
  34. Y_tho

    TSportline wheels for Model Y

    Yup. And the factory Y wheels are square for 19" / 20", staggered for 21". TSportline offers square-setup for all sizes (Model 3 & Model Y), with a few staggered-setup options as well: Model Y - 21" Model 3 - 20" Model 3 - 19"

Share Tesla Wallcharger gen 3 with anyone?

Aside from the payment part, you can absolutely share your charger. They're installed in the garage, just inside...

Acceptable to keep mobile charger from trade-in?

When I sold my '20 MYLR to CarMax last summer, I had the same question run through my mind. They gave me an estimate, and a week later, I brought my car in (without mobile connector). They did a quick-inspect and said "we can't find the mobile connector." I had to bring the connector back, later...

Tesla almost left me stranded - again.

I use ABRP for all non-local driving. Some great features: You get to set preference for starting SOC (or default to whatever SOC your car is at), max SOC at a charger, min SOC for needing to stop and charge, min SOC for destination arrival - it then builds a route plan based on these settings...

Trip Cards are back - Yea

Fun hidden feature of the new "trip" card: if you visit the Trip tab of the car menu, you can "check" which trips show up in the trip card. I added my "Lifetime" trip, which is now shown right alongside current trip numbers and since-last-charge numbers.
