    Data in Tesla's recorder

Cars today have black boxes that will snitch on you. Thirty seconds before up to collision the car will collect and preserve info like speed, how long it took for you to brake and how hard, steering wheel angle, yaw, and who knows what else.

Our cars “see” others’ turn signal?

I’m on TACC. I’m passing a vehicle on my right. When my right front bumper is six feet from his left rear bumper he turns on his turn signal. My car immediately goes into an aggressive hard braking and maneuvering scenario that startled me and probably the guy behind me. I know people have...

Where to mount my life hammer

you better have something up front to break the window and cut the seat belt when you are upside down under water and disoriented. You can’t open a door under water until the car fills with water to equalize the pressure. Cut the seat belt to drop You onto the headliner, smash the window...

Where to mount my life hammer

I have a spring loaded break tool that inserts into the 12v outlet with two USB inputs. If the tool is not secured someplace it might be hard to find after an accident. BTW...the impact tools are not designed to break laminated glass so say the instructions. Read the glass markings on your...

    Tire Rotation Miles

thank you. I burned a small pile of this and it definitely smells like rubber. Tire pressure is ok.

    Tire Rotation Miles

Redi Kilowatt My tires are scuffing away very fast. Pic is 2020 front with 300 miles. Been to SC. Could you do me a favor and drag your fingers along the front inside wheel wells and see if they come out looking like my pic. I’m trying to understand if this tire dust is normal for the model 3...

Rear defrost strips falling off window after 17 mos. Tesla wants $820.

This is from the owner’s manual. This is probably what evoked the initial quote. Interior Glass Do not scrape, or use any abrasive cleaning fluid on glass or mirrored surfaces. This can damage the reflective surface of the mirror and the heating elements in the rear window.

Tesla got the worst score in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Survey

Bah humbug to the JD Power IQS. After today’s qtr 2 results here is a Fortune headline. “Tesla second-quarter deliveries trounce Wall Street expectations—and its bigger rivals” it’s now the largest automaker based on value. it is larger than most S & P 500 companies (17th). it’s...

How to remove the odor / mold smell from your AC

I think 08micev solution will work. I use a similar foam product to keep the evaporator coils in my central home AC clean. Don’t run the fan without the AC on and don’t run the heat to dry. It’s the AC condensation that drip cleans the foam off the coils. I also have specific fin brushes to...

    20" to 18" Wheels

Tewistedskipper: you are absolutely correct if the 18 and 20 are the same overall diameter. The “gear” is the same. I wasn’t aware that the overall dia of both were the same.

Driving Cross Country Female + 2 Dogs

I think on car plug repair is your only DIY option. As mentioned you can’t repair side wall damage. Loosening a 129 lb ft nut with a lug nut wrench on the side of the road is difficult for anyone. Jacking the car up with cars and trucks wizzing by on the road is dangerous. Here in Florida we...

    Tesla to Tesla charging

I read in the owner’s manual or warranty info that using your Tesla as an external power source voids the warranty. it’s on page 156 in the owner’s manual.

    Tire dust?

It can’t be from the road. I have a white Lexus with no issue. Can’t tell about tire wear, car only has 300 miles. I made a service appointment for May 29. I installed splash guards and door seals to keep it limited to wheel wells and front of splash guards.

    Tire dust?

It’s not dirt. It’s not air pollution. No smokestack industry here. We don’t even have smog inspection for cars. Also not the case for my Lexus crossover that drives the same roads. The Lexus in white also. Interestingly, lots of tire noise from right front. Hmmm... related?

    Tire dust?

I very much would appreciate a response from others who might have the same experience. I know there are wheel alignment posts out there but this post is looking for specific input. I only have a few hundred miles on my car and this issue became evident from the first drive home from delivery...

Design & Body in White teams please...

...Study the third generation Corvette. Note that in ‘68 & ‘69 the front fender and quarter panel where tucked under behind the tires just like my ‘20 M3. In ‘70 the Vette Redesign flared out the fender and quarter panel behind the tires. The reason was to eliminate abrasions, chips, dirt...

    20" to 18" Wheels

Also keep in mind your tire is the final “gear” In your drive system. The bigger the tire the more torque it takes to start and roll it. I guess that could have an affect on range, performance and maybe a little more stress on the motor. I like the looks of bigger tires and wheels but I’m...

What percentage of the day should my M3 sleep when not used?

I’ve had my car a month to the day, driven it once. It seems if I don’t interact with the car and don’t open the Tesla App it never wakes up. I do have Teslafi and peek briefly every now and then but it doesn’t wake to car up. Teslafi sleep set to default.

    Front tire wear

I’ve had my M3 a month now with 300 miles. I notice a lot of black powder accumulated in the wheel well. It looks and feels like rubber dust. I think either the first 15 miles byTesla were spent doing donuts or tires are wearing quickly.

    12V Battery Failure Experience

Here’s a thought. How about if you connected a 12v source to the vehicle’s cables before disconnecting the 12v battery cables. Then, disconnect the battery, replace it, reconnect the vehicle cables to the new battery. Finally remove the temporary 12v source. That way the vehicle never looses...

    12V Battery Failure Experience

Thank you. I was looking for assurance that it didn’t require a SC interaction with any computers. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

    12V Battery Failure Experience

I only recently picked up my M3 so I don’t know much about It yet. This forum helps me learn more. Why can’t I replace the 12v battery myself? Are there any instructions anywhere?
