New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

ADVANCE OPTIONS just showed up for me this morning. However, under Grid Charging it says "Grid Charging Restricted This is due to utility or regional limitations, and is configured by your installer."

    SPAN - Smart Electrical Panel

Are you having it installed through SPAN? When I reached out they said they only had 3rd party installers. At least in my area.

    Inverter Shutting Down

Update: I finally got someone from Tesla to come back out. They had previously disconnected my MCIs as a temporary fix and claimed a firmware update was going to arrive shortly and they would come back and reinstall my MCIs. That was almost 2 years ago. I gave the new tech the rundown and he...

    SPAN - Smart Electrical Panel

We are about to start a remodel and I'm planning on installing a SPAN. It was their new car charger that put me over the edge. I don't drive a Tesla so it will be nice to be able to control how it charges my car in grid down situations. I also only have a 100 amp service and it will be cheaper...

PG&E TOU rate plan will not allow me to change plan?

Call them. They said it was because I had a powerwall installed he had to do it over the phone. Wasn't an issue to switch plans over the phone.

    Inverter Shutting Down

The only way I know to upgrade the firmware is to call Tesla and have them come out and do it. It does seem like you should be able to upgrade via bluetooth and the M Professional app but I've never been able to make it work.

Fill Powerwalls first, Tesla EV second, extra to grid third?

I've been watching these Zappi chargers in the UK for a while now. I think they could do what you'd like. https://myenergi.com/product/zappi/ I think they've got their own CT clamps and they look for excess flow and when they see that they adjust your charge rate. So in theory if the CTs where...

    Inverter Shutting Down

Do you have panels or solar roof? Just wondering. I think it's exclusively a panel problem but I don't have enough data yet. Regardless, please call them and tell them to fix it ASAP. I've been dealing with this for over a year now. I can't believe a firmware fix is actually in the works. The...

Delta M-4, String drops out to zero for 2 hrs ? [delta inverter issues]

There are definitely others that have this same problem but it doesn't seem to affect all Delta M series w/ MCIs installed. I've seen posts on other forums about it and someone even posted a screenshot from Tesla stating they know about the problem and are waiting for a fix. I think what's...

Delta M-4, String drops out to zero for 2 hrs ? [delta inverter issues]

Mine is showing that I have the latest firmware in the app. 3.1.7, 1.5.8, 1.5.1 I wonder if that 1.5.11 will fix my MCI issue. Do you have panels or solar roof?

Delta M-4, String drops out to zero for 2 hrs ? [delta inverter issues]

Yeah, if I had known more about this all during the install I would have had them run two seperate strings. It would help my production a ton I think because of some evening shading on one of the groups of panels.

Delta M-4, String drops out to zero for 2 hrs ? [delta inverter issues]

No picture of the jumpers but from what I've gathered is that the jumpers are used to split a single string between the two MPPTs. If you login with the app you'll be able to see that both PV1 and PV2 should have the same values when the solar is producing. Without the jumpers only PV1 would...

Any way to keep Powerwalls from charging without turning off their breakers?

Maybe it's not working correctly for you because you've been flipping your breakers on and off each day. Try just leaving it in balanced mode for a week and see what happens. If it still draws from the grid during peak you've got a problem with your system and should contact support.

Both Inverters stuck in night mode

No. These are devices that shutdown the panels solar production at the panel side and stop sending DC current to the inverters. It's fire code in a lot of states now.
  17. L

Both Inverters stuck in night mode

Just curious. Any lightning in the area or something like that might have caused the issue?
  18. L

Both Inverters stuck in night mode

Interesting. I did think at first it could be an MCI issue but thought it odd that two went bad at the same time. I'm assuming one on each inverter string went bad causing both inverters to shutdown.

Any way to keep Powerwalls from charging without turning off their breakers?

If you are worried about battery life then you shouldn't be discharging your battery everyday. If battery life is your biggest concern just run in advanced - cost saving mode. While you will get to 100% SoC everyday you won't drain your battery down as far each night which means fewer cycles...

Both Inverters stuck in night mode

Yeah, It's either something is disconnected from both inverters like a breaker isn't getting turned on or maybe the gateway isn't sensing the grid correctly. Can you share any other data? What's your power flow look like? Can you connect to the inverter via bluetooth and check the hz and see if...

Tesla Solar with knobs and tubes wiring

You can get them to upgrade your main panel but they won't run new cables through the house. Get a professional that only replaces knob and tube for that. I've got knob and tube in most of my house but it's still in pretty good shape. It was required and Tesla wouldn't do it but I'm replacing my...

    Inverter Shutting Down

From what I've gathered solar roof uses different MCIs than the solar panels do and is likely why the problem doesn't exist for solar roofs. At least I haven't heard or anyone with a solar roof having this problem.

    Inverter Shutting Down

I'm on an M4. System 3.1.7 Power 1.5.8 Safety 1.5.1 My app shows I have the latest firmware but who know what that actually means. It did show I needed an update when I first had it installed and they did do an update a few months later. I think the issue is with the safety firmware since...

    Inverter Shutting Down

Nope. Just messaged them a few weeks ago and all they would do is say new firmware is in the works but couldn't give me any specifics. I'm coming up on one year waiting for this mysterious firmware update.

    New Install Clipping/Not Installed Correctly?

I've had the inverter reboot on me a few times when connected via the bluetooth app.
  32. L

    New Install Clipping/Not Installed Correctly?

Great. That will take care of the clipping issue. Now keep an eye out for your Delta inverter shutting down when slightly shaded because of bad firmware that they've been promising to fix for about a year now.

    New Install Clipping/Not Installed Correctly?

Someone recently shared that the app Trinahome by the same developer also works with some different info.
  34. L

    New Install Clipping/Not Installed Correctly?

Yeah, give them a call. That's not right. Could be they only ran a single string to the inverter and didn't split them between the two MPPTs. They just need to come back and install some jumpers in the inverter. Could also be a CT thing. Download the M Professional app and use bluetooth to...

Spikes like Gamestop? [spike in PV production]

If you can, log into your inverter and compare it's production logs with the ones in the app. I've seen this sort of thing before but I feel like it's just a reporting issue with Tesla. That's just a hunch though.

    Choice of inverter

I get the feeling they are switching over to using only Delta M series inverters since they work with their solar roof as well as their panel system.

    Backing up 6 x 20A and 1 x 15A circuits with one Powerwall?

It's all about draw. I've got a small house with similar specs. The whole house is backed up on a single powerwall. Works great unless we try to run the dryer (electric). It draws too many amps for a single powerwall to handle. The fix is to not run the dryer in a power outage situation. We also...

    Questions about recent solar installs

It has something to do with the rapid shutdown system which is required in some states. If I have it correctly the MCI are little boxes that connect directly to a group of 4 panels and look for electrical faults. If they sense an issue they shutdown the inverter.
  44. L

    Questions about recent solar installs

There's a huge firmware issue with the Delta M series currently. If there's a tiny bit of light fluctuation on a single panel the entire inverter will shutdown for 20 minutes. So say you have scattered clouds you inverter will basically not produce at all. This is a known issue but Delta hasn't...

    Inverter Shutting Down

The issue is between the inverter and the MCIs. If you remove one of those two things from the situation the issue goes away. :)

    Inverter Shutting Down

He was responding to me, the original poster. I didn't post it here but I did learn about the firmware issue when a tech came out. He did a short term fix that did solve the problem for now. Still waiting on that firmware though. I hear there was a beta in the wild being tested but it wasn't...

Anyone tried Full Crystal wash on solar panels to wash?

I went up this weekend on my roof with a garden hose. It got a lot of the ash off but a bunch was baked on and didn't come off. I'm going to have to go back up with a bucket and rag I think. I have a flat roof so it's not a huge deal.
  48. L

    Inverter Shutting Down

Following up on my original post. I did get a tech out here and they were already aware of the problem. It has something to do with the MCC(?)s on each panel that communicate to the inverter. They are sensing the drop in sunlight and telling the inverter to shutdown for safety. This is a...

    Inverter Shutting Down

I'll include another screenshot at the bottom of this post, but I've seen no correlation between anything except for a drop in sunlight on the panels. If I was to walk in front of the panels my own shadow would cause the inverter to go into night mode. Powerwall is currently in cost savings...

    Is this normal?

I had the same 2.7 kWh cap and the installers came our and just ran a couple of jumpers and now I'm pushing 3.5kWh+. It only took them like 10 minutes to do it too.
