The stalk is the shift lever / stalk. Thats the one sending its position to a module , that module then communicates to the DI about the position. So you need a working module and stalk to don't have doubts about the gear position.

I think its the module / the stalk itself. The stalk "talks" continuously to the Drive Inverter. If that comm. interrupts i suspect that the motor jumps out of gear and logs an error / warning. After a good period of no errors it will clear out and your sequence starts again.

Ok next subject of Model S parts on the bench :) I have a modern AC unit and a modern EXV valve. Question 1: EXV valve is it PWM or LIN? Question 2: The AC unit is CanBus; Is it on the PT canbus?

That looks like aftermarket?!?!?! Never seen a model S from underneath, but definitely doesn't look like standard. Follow the wires and you know. I guess that aftermarket parking sensors make more sense then.

If i was you i would measure the HVIL amperage. it should be like 20ma from memory. So a very small current is running through that loop if the current isn't running you either have the sender device switched of or the loop is broken (some where). the sending device will make sure that the loop...

Wouldn't it be possible to use the EEPROM contents to my advantage? Does anyone know if a BCM on the bench with no antenna's detects its keyfob? Will it work with just +VDC and GND? (at close distance)?

What the title says... If you just swap the unit and the firmware inside isn't the same (matching would be allot of luck). How do you get it running again? What would one need? Or is a visit to the tesla service centre an option (they dont touch a self swapped unit i guess..)

Nope thats impossible. What i do have the version of the DU firmware. (when it boots its the first thing it resports). It matches with the UDS's version memory location. When the drive unit receives an 5A8 message it check it. I have been told they are more firmware tight then anything else...
