    Western Canada Superchargers

Quesnel has a supercharger now? Sweet! I can finally visit my friends in Prince George from Vancouver without a $$$ ChaDeMo adapter! Now they just need Williams Lake so I don't have to drive like a Grandma to get there. Still, this is great! This, plus the two new superchargers in my area...

    110v vrs 220v charging

I think the bigger problem with battery health and life is how long you leave it undercharged or overcharged. Speed of at-home L2 charging (meaning AC charging of ANY of the two voltages) is not relevant to the life of the battery. Merely how quickly it reaches your desired state of charge...

    Hansshow Audio Upgrade? (SR+)

I ordered my DIY wire-only kit for my June 2020 M3. No rear speakers makes me sad but I'd still rather have my front speakers doing something compared to sitting there, unused.

    Hansshow Audio Upgrade? (SR+)

This is the most pertinent part of your post. Sound is an individual preference. Most people do not prefer flat response compared to bassy, punchy sound. If I could have bought a car with a factory premium audio system and still gotten the $8000 rebate from my local government, I would have...

    Dc combo for USA port

Completely agreed. If/when I do that trip in my M3, I would be looking to borrow/rent a ChaDeMo. I usually drive that trip in a rental mini van though due to cargo/people so it may never happen. Why Tesla hasn't put anything up there is beyond me. I guess it's just not a big enough market.

Upgraded SR Partial Audio to Full Premium

I purchased the Hanshow DIY (harness and crossovers only) kit. Figured it was a good first step and if I want do more later, I still can. This way I'll at least have wires to all of the speakers in the car. Also, I see some discussions about passive crossovers being less efficient. I think...

    Rumor has it.....

Right there with you man. I've been ripped into on this forum for expressing an opinion a vocal minority didn't agree with for some reason or another and wanted to be sure to cut me down for it. Thanks for posting. There are those of us who appreciate it <3

    Dc combo for USA port

A fair point, and for that single opportunity when that might happen, I'll likely have rented or borrowed a ChaDeMo adapter from someone for that very odd trip situation that I cannot envision in my daily travels, I'd rather spend my $600 Canadian plus tax on .. I dunno. New tires? A home...

    Dc combo for USA port

And more to come. There is a free charger in my neighbourhood that uses ChaDeMo and CCS1, and while I could buy the ChaDeMo adapter, it just seems like a waste of money compared to any future CCS1 solution when I know that will be the future and likely to have the most widespread support. If...

    Western Canada Superchargers

This will be a very welcome addition! I was in the area for a week around Labour Day and the Hope supercharger was a parking lot more than once. I took a trip to Chilliwack and that necessitated a stop in Hope to charge before heading back to my destination, and had to wait for a stall. With...

    Dc combo for USA port

Extra port or not, I just want to be able to charge with the growing number of CCS1 DC fast chargers in my area. Adapter or no, retrofit or no, I can't wait for Tesla (or anyone else) to release a solution to this issue.

Tesla remote detects Boost50 acceleration mod

Am I missing something? It seems that the car is merely alerting you that it knows you installed an incompatible modification to your car. From what I read in the thread, nothing is affected, other than that message being on the screen. \ Still goes vroom vroom fast, I think? I would LOVE...

Vancouver BC paint protection shop Recommendation

I had excellent experience at Street Legal tint in North Vancouver! Fair price, great turnaround, and lots of tesla experience. His wife has a Model 3, in fact. Highly recommended! I got the Ceramic tint at 50% and a front bumper paint protection film.

    Western Canada Superchargers

I spoke with the environmental official at North Vancouver city hall yesterday regarding charging at my street parking only suite. First, she confirmed that you cannot legally put an extension cord across a sidewalk to charge your EV. That I already knew. We spoke about other things, and I...

Home Charging in an Old Home

@saltsman some of the best answers I've ever seen to this kind of question. Thanks for your awesome knowledge share. Is it wrong to suggest wiring a 14-50 outlet (or even 14-30) on the same breaker as the stove, and just ensure the car only charges at night? I know it's risking a breaker trip...

    Unexpected Tesla Fans

I'll add one more location to the 'nobody cares'. Vancouver, BC. I think we have nearly as many Teslas per capita than the bay area. It's rare that I don't drive with or pass another Model 3 or S on my way to work. Yesterday, I was in a line of 3 of us, all different colours. I've had other...

Wow, that's awesome! Thank you for sharing! I have a few questions, if you don't mind: Who is building this CCS combo 1 adapter? Is it Tesla approved, or are you doing this independently? When will you offer it for sale? Are there any limitations on what Tesla vehicle it can work with...

    240v through the 5-15 plug?

You may be interested to know, others have verified that cutting the neutral pin off of your 14-30 or 14-50 connector will make it work on both outlets, obviously keeping in mind to remember to set the amperage lower where necessary.

    14-30 charge adapter - 110v/120v capable?

That's a great idea! Strange that Tesla wouldn't just sell the adapter like this in the first place if that neutral isn't even connected. Then again, I guess the amperage would be wrong in some cases then, which isn't safe. Nevermind.. answered my own question! In this case, I assume it's...

Hood paint damage - Pearl paint sucks

Thanks man! Appreciated. Yeah, Korva was on my list (my dad knows the owner) but I was told by my friend in the industry that they are no longer Tesla approved, meaning they can't get parts easily. Admittedly, I didn't call them to check though.

    240v through the 5-15 plug?

@SomeJoe7777 Now that's some good feedback! I had not considered the idea of feeding back into a turned-off breaker. Definitely a concern. If one of two circuits were to blow, you would definitely want to disconnect the live side immediately. Maybe one day I will live in a place where I can...

He runs one of those social media dog minding services, much to the detriment to the rest of us in the complex, but to his credit, keeps the noise down. He had a bunch of dogs in the back seat with him and has never had an issue before, but this time, misjudged things and, there you have it...

    14-30 charge adapter - 110v/120v capable?

I like the solution! I may do something similar. Very key to point out to anyone considering this that it's risky, and you do have to pay attention and know what you're doing, plus double-check your work with an electrician, or you could cause a serious problem, fire, or worse. I've had it...

    240v through the 5-15 plug?

Actually yeah, that's what I'm describing, somewhat, although I don't understand why it's quite as you describe. I wanted to use the two hots on opposing split-phase circuits plugged in with dual 5-15 male connectors. Each respective hot from each 5-15 male would be wired into one hot each of...

    240v through the 5-15 plug?

Actually, in each case, my intention was discussing the 5-15 on an extension cord. I can see now why that is not how it was interpreted though. I wish I could edit those to add that, but I can't, sadly. Thanks for pointing that out, @SomeJoe7777. I can definitely see how that could have been...

    240v through the 5-15 plug?

@Rocky_H , very valuable feedback, and I need to state again some clarification: I have not once intended to suggest installing a 5-15 outlet into your house with 240V. In fact, I said not to, multiple times. Please read my posts and correct me if I'm wrong. I suggested using an EXTENSION...

    Mashing the accelerator, a lot...

Has anyone had the drive axels fail on their M3 from this kind of use? That'd be far more of my concern rather than battery degradation. That torque has to transfer to the wheels somehow. Anyone trying to quarter-mile track drive a FWD car knows the pain of spitting axels onto the track surface.

    240v through the 5-15 plug?

*sigh* What a great community this is. Rather than contributing and correcting my "incorrect, incomplete, and dangerous" info so I know where I went wrong, and others do too, I'm just told to shut up. The scientific method is about feedback and contribution. Bring on the critique. Just...

    14-30 charge adapter - 110v/120v capable?

This is specifically for RV parks where, at least here, the TT-30 is more common than not. I want to have this option when I travel. Yeah, I wouldn't cut it off. I would adapt the 14-30 connector to a TT-30. Good piece of advice about the temp sensor in the plug head though. I didn't think...

    14-30 charge adapter - 110v/120v capable?

I was not aware of this wording. Thanks for filling me in. So, I guess I meant split phase 120v? I believe the terminology may be used slightly differently where I am from, but maybe not. I've always thought the outlet output, regardless of the pole voltage, to be called the 'service'...

    Western Canada Superchargers

A good point. I want to believe that is why, but not having plans for CCS combo 1 adapter (or not announcing it by now) seems to indicate otherwise, at least to me. They could have licensed or open-sourced their connector, too, but haven't.
  43. Aphinity

    Western Canada Superchargers

ChaDeMo is physically restricted to 62.5kW. CCS Combo 1 has a theoretical limit of 350kW, so as more 3rd party chargers come out, you know they'll be trying to go higher and higher on the output to argue they are 'faster'. That means CCS Combo 1 is where we want to be if we want support on a...

    14-30 charge adapter - 110v/120v capable?

Thanks guys, this is exactly what I was hoping. In fact, I'm looking at how I can adapt to a TT-30 connector while still getting/using a connector I will be using anyway (the 14-30). Thanks for the info! I'll check my work 3 times, give it a shot, and report back on how it works once I get...

    Model 3 bike rack

I just bought myself a bike and have been considering all options for a rack, including none. Still leaning towards none. The seasucker idea is really awesome, but $400USD for suction cups? Jeeze. Hidden hitch and one of the cheaper hitch racks would be my choice if I do get a bike rack. I...

    14-30 charge adapter - 110v/120v capable?

I'm trying to adapt to a 30amp 110v service and I'm not seeing a 110v capable plug with 30amp capability. I'd rather not use the 5-20 adapter as it's not going to get full amperage. Given that the 5-15 connector has been known to accept 240v (despite this being a bad idea), I'm curious if...

    Western Canada Superchargers

Both great examples of things I didn't consider. Still, for the cost of that utility, it almost feels like I should be renting and driving a gas car. I know the adapter would pay for itself in a few of those types of trips though. If this were a CCS Combo 1 plug adapter, I wouldn't even...

    Western Canada Superchargers

Paying $602 canadian for fuel (ChaDeMo adapter) seems kinda backwards to the EV philosophy. How long would that take to pay off anyway? I guess it depends on your time and how long you wait to charge or wait to use your car while L2 AC charging. For me, that would take a LONG time. For me...

Hood paint damage - Pearl paint sucks

Hmm, you think? I'm actually rather happy with the paint on my car, but it was only made in June, so perhaps that's why. I think they've improved things, if my car is any indicator. I really wish I didn't have to get the fenders repainted to match the pearl. Gawd I hate pearl colours for this.
