Yes. We can only flash or honk.

    How Secure Are Teslas/Tesla Thefts

My Model 3 is parked under a roof on my compound, facing the street without a fence. Since this is now possible, I have taken to disabling the phone key and enabling PIN-to-drive in the evening, and vice versa in the morning, to make stealing the car more difficult.

    Autonomous Car Progress

MOIA has been operating a public ride-pooling service in Hamburg since 2018, albeit with human drivers. They have fixed passenger collect points.

    New tires with sidewall?

Check the all-weather tires Vredestein Quatrac Pro EV, 235/45 R18 98W XL EV. That's what they are called in Germany, may be slightly differently named elsewhere. The have a prominent side protection rim and are good in other respects too. Quiet, low rolling resistance, good grip on wet and...

    Sentry suddenly going crazy

I've had vegetation next to the car trigger Sentry when it is moved by wind. One possible, extreme case could be when a leaf intermittently obstructs a light source.

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

If Chill Mode does not allow full acceleration then it is a safety risk. A small one, as situations in which this matters are rare, but an accident with chill mode as a contributing factor is conceivable.

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

Can you achieve maximum acceleration in chill mode? If not, I would not use chill. If yes, I would prefer chill.

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

The bug reports are not automatically forwarded to Tesla, only stored in the car for service personnel.

    Vredestein Quatrac Pro +

I drive the EV (electric vehicle) version of this tire, the Vredestein Quatrac Pro EV, and am quite happy with it. Quiet, good grip, pronounced rim protector.

NHTSA make roads across the world less safe

My Model 3 has four drivers, the whole family. It has now collected three strikes. I may soon be punished for mistakes of other drivers. This is not fair and borders on the illegal, because something that I have paid for is taken from my car without any reasonable justification.

Cell Balancing- What's the benefit? Best Way Without Battery Stress?

Just a small additional piece of information: The average has no meaning here. If one part of the battery goes to 98% during charging, while another part goes up to 100%, then, if you discharge the battery and the weaker part reaches 0%, then the stronger part would stand at 2%. At this point...

Cell Balancing- What's the benefit? Best Way Without Battery Stress?

Balancing means that cells or modules become equally charged, i.e. to the same cell voltage at 100% State of Charge. In effect it increases the total capacity. Whether the Battery Management System stuffs the gained capacity into the buffer or actually displays and uses it is a different question.

    How to advocate for EVs?

I tell them that my electric car saves me three to four hours a year at gas stations, because I now drive off with a full "tank" every morning. When somebody insists to ask about long-distance trip charging, it becomes a bit more involved, but the three to four hours first have to be used up...

Switch to all weather tires or invest in a rim + winter tire setup?

As I had already mentioned earlier, here in Germany and likely in other European countries there is also the Vredestein Quatrac Pro EV, which I drive on my Highland with good success.
  17. H

Switch to all weather tires or invest in a rim + winter tire setup?

Thanks for the good clarification. There are some all-weather tires here in Germany that rank among good winter tires in tests and have the marks that allow them into mountain roads that are blocked for summer tires in winter. Typically they are a bit weaker on dry roads in summer, i.e. their...

How often does walk-up unlock not work? Why does it happen?

In the very recent versions of the car and Android app software it seems to have got much better. Can anybody confirm this? Being unable to open the doors has become a rare event. When it does happen, I usually try to find out what helps. First I wait 20 s. Then I disable and re-enable...

It opens the way to user-selectable horn sounds.

    Car wash?

Paint color seems to make a difference. My Model 3 is Pearl White, and micro-scratches from ordinary car washing seem to be invisible, unless you watch in special lighting. Glossy black is another matter.

    TACC random slowing down

Not random and not for no reason. In my observation it always has a trigger, always something that does not look quite kosher to the computer. But it is probably over-sensitive. An oncoming car, wobbling in its lane; a pedestrian moving closer to the street's edge; something in front that might...

how safe do you feel with basic autopilot?

On freeways I feel very safe with the basic autopilot. The only incident I remember is when there was a piece of a dividing line missing due to earlier road repair, and the autopilot swerved into the center of the new, now twice as wide, lane. I am sure though that the autopilot would not swerve...

    High Fidelity Park Assist

Another word of warning: While the new Hi-Fi Park Assist feature is very useful and works pretty well, it sometimes misses things or displays them in a bigger distance than it really is. I have experienced this with vertical structures, particularly if their size differs at different heights...

Tips on renting a Tesla in Germany?

You could try the electric car rental company nextmove. They have a type guarantee, i.e. if you successfully order a Model 3, you will get a Model 3. They are a bit difficult to find in Munich, but I have found them once and rented a car from them.

    Auto de-fogging

I would prefer automatically, but better. I am generally for automatic operation wherever possible. The fewer options, the better. But, of course, if good automatic operation could not be done for one reason or another, then we would need a manual option.
  26. H

    Auto de-fogging

I hadn't noticed the disadvantages of auto-defog. If they occur, then auto-defog is indeed misdesigned. It should not stay on for any extended time, unless that is really needed.
  27. H

    Auto de-fogging

I keep being surprised about people who want to micro-manage their car's automatic functions for very little or no reward. The auto-defogging function is yet another example. It has no discernible disadvantage if it runs for a little longer. Warm air that would be blown into the car anyway is...

The are bean counters. Good ones, for sure, but they have no technology farsight. They will not buy TSLA.

Auto Wipers Triggered by Specific Types of Street Lights

The wiper automatic doesn't work well at night. Too much wiping with any bright light, too little when it's dark. But we know that and hope for a software improvement, which is bound to come our way one day, so why even discuss this issue? I use voice control commands for the wipers at night...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

Not necessary, as the electronics in Teslas prevent sliding very effectively.

How long did it take you to get used to the stalk-less turn signals?

Before you build an opinion, drive the Highland for at least two weeks and become conversant with pressing the buttons with your right hand when the wheel is turned upside down. You will find that it is no problem, actually better than the stalks. It is stupid to say, I don't like it, before...

Living with the 16v LV battery

Don't fool yourself. Pumps with their own battery are often useless, because the battery runs empty. I know, I have one of those and no longer use it. Had to buy one with a 12 V cigarette lighter cord that is capable of filling a tire completely. Beware also the Chinese pumps that all look...

How long did it take you to get used to the stalk-less turn signals?

Sure. I am now working on using the buttons with my right hand when the wheel is turned upside down. I can already do it after driving the Highland for almost a week. It still takes me a second to make sure, but it seems obvious that in another week I will operate the buttons blindly with...

How long did it take you to get used to the stalk-less turn signals?

I'm now about half-way through getting used to the new Model 3 Highland indicator buttons. I can now use them blindly with my left or with my right hand, however the wheel is turned. Just as I once got used to the stalk, I now get used to the buttons. I like the buttons better, because most of...

How long did it take you to get used to the stalk-less turn signals?

I like the steering wheel button design. However, I gladly admit that it takes some time to get used to. Using them while you drive straight, and the steering wheel is straight, is easy. But while maneuvering, particularly when trying to indicate leaving a roundabout, is a challenge at first...

Model 3 spare tire options? (Not modern spare)

There's a new option for those who fear a flat tire. Some new tires, I think, of Pirelli fame, have permanent sealant inside that prevents air flowing out through a hole from a nail in the tire. I don't know any details. Please report, if you know more.

    Handheld wiper storage location ideas?

You could try to find one that fits neatly into the driver's door bin. I have one of those. Works reasonably well.

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

I never knew that Teslas are delivered with all-season tires in America. I wish they'd do that in Europe too, so I don't have to swap tires every time I get a new Tesla.

How often does walk-up unlock not work? Why does it happen?

Activating, then deactivating airplane mode on the phone almost always unlocks the car. Often, but not always, deactivating, then activating Bluetooth also unlocks the car. Sometimes just opening the Tesla app unlocks the car. Often waiting for up to 30 s unlocks the car. Using the lock...

Why is the charge port in the back?

You just have to look at a parking lot to see people's preference. As soon as a problem is not utterly simple, many people do not think it through. In this case, they do not consider getting into the parking space and getting out again, and optimize the sum of both processes. Instead they do...
  42. H

Why is the charge port in the back?

A simple fact got lost in the discussion. Parking backwards requires much less maneuvering space. There's an asymmetry here, caused by the fact that the rear wheels cannot steer in most cars.
  43. H

Why is the charge port in the back?

I find it difficult to think of a situation where going into a parking spot forward is easier, better, or even possible at all. If you park somewhere in your garden, you want to go in backward, because driving out forward is much safer, easier, and needs less maneuvering space. For parallel...

    Tyre pressures all reading low

That is correct. I usually correct the tyre pressure when the outside air temperature changes by several degrees. Because pumping up is much more awkward than letting some air out, I usually overcompensate a bit as winter approaches, in expectation of temperatures falling further. I also take...

AP Locking Onto Cars in Adjacent Lanes

In Germany it is, in most circumstances, prohibited to overtake on the right side. Therefore, if there is a slower car in the track left to my own, The Autopilot slows down and stays behind that other car. Here this is the legally correct behavior. Don't know if this is related. Looks similar...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

I had it ordered with a trailer hitch, but could not get it soon. For certain reasons it is very advantageous for me to get the car very soon. So I removed the trailer hitch from my order, and 5 min later I had VIN and invoice for delivery in about two weeks. I have quite believable, but not...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

Does anyone have reliable information about the trailer hitch retrofit? I am getting conflicting information from all sides.
  48. H

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

It can be done. Not a wiper on the lens, but a protective flat glass shield over the lens and a wiper and washer on that glass. Makes the whole thing more expensive though and requires regular maintenance. I doubt that we will see that soon on our Teslas.

UK to Lake Garda - route help please

I also use Bip&Go for the Italian stations. Very convenient! You just drive through the "t" lane, and the barriers open when you approach. For Austria you can install the ASFINAG app on your phone. You need two different toll permissions, the general Autobahn "vignette" and the Europa Bridge—or...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

If you want to buy a Tesla Model 3, you have an excellent choice—either wait for Highland or save a couple of thousand dollars and buy the phase-out model from inventory. At this time you can still choose.
