Tesla app not showing home usage when there is solar

Bumping this to return to Tesla's promise that the new app will fix the math. It doesn't. I'm likely a victim of the same clerical error as trautmane.

Tesla app not showing home usage when there is solar

Called support. They said they're redesigning the energy section of the app. The iOS version should be rolling out, the Android version is later this month. She said the visuals are going to be different. Rather than filing a bug report, I'm going to wait for the Android update.

Tesla app not showing home usage when there is solar

Same zero consumption during the day issue here. I was planning to chat with support about it. As soon as my production exceeds my consumption, the Powerblaster's output is ignored, home usage flatlines on the energy usage page, and the three circle page shows all my production going to the...

Does anyone know how net metering with duke energy works?

This is the published tariff, but it doesn't show the COG-1 rate. https://www.duke-energy.com/_/media/pdfs/for-your-home/rates/rates-fl/retail-rates-by-rate-schedule.pdf?la=en My February bill has a line item on it labeled Net metering annual unused energy credit. For 16 cents. Elsewhere on the...

    Panel upgrade

I should share my experience. Before install, I had a typical central Florida outdoor split meter/main and a separate service panel in the garage. The service panel in the garage is full, as a result a 2014 patio upgrade by the former owners added loads in the outdoor panel. The outdoor split...

FERC Opens Wholesale Markets to Distributed Resources

I think about the 11 cents I pay Duke and they pay me. I think about consumers in my region who pay more, and having an aggregator sell my excess production where 20 cents is a bargain. I see this as an electric bill and an electric check, complete with a Form 1099 at the end of the year.

New Tesla 15.12kW Solar / 4 Powerwall order in Orlando

Local non-SolarCity installer that Tesla subbed to said they are allowed 15 days to approve. Since it's all written down over here: https://www.flrules.org/gateway/readFile.asp?sid=0&tid=5455200&type=1&file=25-6.065.doc, I challenged that the same way you just did. They have 30 days, see 7(c)...

New Tesla 15.12kW Solar / 4 Powerwall order in Orlando

My install was Monday. I'm about to go through all of this with Orange County. I doubt I'll have the patience, and I've been told our inspections are only running 3-4 weeks. Duke has 15 days. They'll be reported to the PSC when they fail. It's good to know that they're providing information...

Getting panel ready for Tesla site visit

When I asked them this question, they said they get three bids and show you the best offer. They leave/suspend/delay the job and wait for the panel upgrade to be completed. The upgrade typically requires another electric permit because the bidder is arms' length to Tesla Energy Operations. In...

Florida 1:1 net metering under PSC review, 75% reduction in value of solar

Lots of great comments, thanks. I did state one thing I need to clarify, the 3 and 12 cents were examples I took too literally. Actual numbers may significantly vary. I'm absolutely in agreement that excess production should be wholesale rate, and as BrettS confirmed, that's already the case...

Florida 1:1 net metering under PSC review, 75% reduction in value of solar

I've received news from the Florida PSC that is cause for concern at a time when energy storage options are immature and overpriced compared to what is coming in the next 5 years. Net metering may pay wholesale, aka avoided cost, on all excess customer-owned generation. We would earn 3 cents per...

Florida solar utility liability insurance requirements

I got a warm response to my letter to Commissioner Graham, from his Chief Advisor. Even though I did not mention this forum in my message, it was mentioned in the reply, so PSC staff are watching this and probably other threads. If you have comments about the Florida liability insurance...

Does Tesla install solar panels at an angle?

The mounting system they use (from the company they bought (SolarCity) that bought the company that makes them (Zep)) doesn't allow for raised panels.

Got the redesign I wanted, moving the added panels to the most productive roof and off the front of the house, for a boost of 1,384kWh. A 5% increase for "no, not there, over there." The previous design put the 8 added panels on the northeast-facing section under the Project Sunroof pin below...

Florida solar utility liability insurance requirements

I wrote to Commissioner Graham today. Email addresses are on the PSC site I linked previously. Dear Commissioner Graham, I would like to propose that the PSC discuss a measure to insert a customer-owned PV generation tier between Tier I and Tier II covering the range 10kW to 25kW and set a...

Living Room Light Goes On When PW Starts Charging

Philips Hue bulbs default to on when they regain power after losing it. Others do too, it's intended to be a safety thing. Any chance there's enough of a blip to trigger a sorta smart bulb to turn on?

Considering Tesla after talking to independent

Re 3: yeah, sure, SolarCity paid $183 million for Zep because their mounting products damage solar panels... Man, what desperate people will say.

Florida solar utility liability insurance requirements

That's the answer, the rest is distraction. This says a few things: 1. 10-20MW systems can cause $700k ($1m - typical $300k HO coverage) more damage to utility equipment than a 9.9MW system can 2. The damage that a 20MW system can cause is an equal risk to the utility as the damage that a 100MW...

Still not following. Who uses the fugly ice cube tray panels? Sunpower? The panels Tesla sells are solid black.

    Checked an independent installer

Share the math, please? All I've found so far is companies that sell SunPower and compare the SunPower 415 against the Hanwha 315. If SunPower installers need to go to those extremes to make their point, I'm not interested in their pitch. I see a .25% degradation and an expected 92.7%...

    Checked an independent installer

OK, but the panels on the right are not on offer from Tesla, so that's what threw me off. OP said the panels are black and a bit more decorative than Tesla, that's what made me comment about the blackness of the Q.Cells Tesla uses.

Should I care about payback period?

Solar interest rates are not that attractive. You'd probably do better with a cash out refi with how competitive lenders are on closing costs due to the current lack of home inventory, unless you intend to overpay. If you do, payback period doesn't matter because it's entirely in your control.

    Newbie: 4kw + 1powerwall in progress

Unless you've found a magic passageway somewhere, hacked the phone system, or you're driving to Vegas, the design team sits behind the advisors and is not customer-facing. You'll more likely make contact with advisors, plural, as there is no account ownership in their advisory sales team. They...

Florida solar utility liability insurance requirements

Were you already at 500k personal liability, and they just bumped the liability to $1m? And your cars are on a different policy? I have an AAA package policy, so they need auto BI at 250/500 to attach a $1m umbrella liability rider. That's $443/year and while it does include extra car coverage...

With my setup, I'll end up with 2 10kWs. Is this hum or fan noise? I could tolerate a steady hum during the day, because they'd be next to an air handler anyway. Plus, I can always insulate away noise, I can't make the left front corner of my house less sunny.

I see that on the inverter spec sheet now, thanks for pointing that out because that matters to me very much. You saved me some hassle, much appreciated. It was planned to go in a garage, but that garage is next to our dining room and next to a large open floor plan area. I think I'll just ask...

I've asked for my inverters to be installed inside, also for heat/sun exposure. They forwarded the question, waiting for an answer today or tomorrow. They said they might add a line item to the cost for the conduit.

    Red-lining the solar purchase agreement

I'm surprised they subjected you to a sales tax exemption form for Florida. That should only be for non-profits in states that permit sales tax on solar installs. Florida does not allow it and will not collect it from Tesla. Solar is also exempt from increasing your property's assessed value...

    Checked an independent installer

For $11k, I could hire a project manager to deal with Tesla for me if I was frustrated with their service and wanted someone to lean on them. Personally, I've needed 2 redesigns and they've been responsive both to my calls and by providing updated designs within a business day. I don't have...

New Tesla 15.12kW Solar / 4 Powerwall order in Orlando

56-panel redo. Yesterday, they acknowledged my email from Friday asking for more panels and told me that redesigns are backed up 7-10 days. Today I got the redesign. Red-lining the solar purchase agreement

Now that they've laid off the sales force and they use software and a support team, they need to operate under consistent agreements to hit the profit margins that were in the math that led to the latest price cut. Tesla Energy's Competition?

I used EnergySage, both for the information on its site and to get quotes from screened installers who could not get my phone number or email address. Optimizers... what are they good for?

I used EnergySage and beat the nearest quote by 20 cents and found out after the fact that Tesla uses optimizers. They don't tout the fact in their bids. A couple of the competing quotes used Enphase MPLE, but I didn't want micros on my roof and they were 40-90 cents over Tesla. I watch a few...

Optimizers... what are they good for?

We would care if optimizers were a line item on an invoice. They aren't, you don't pay less if you remove them. That would matter if installers that do sell an itemized bill of materials could touch the price per watt we're buying, and they can't, even without optimizers. It's commodity...

90% of service cable and transformer rating cap

OK, so front side of the install, good. One of the Tesla advisors described Duke as a restrictive utility and explained that means they can't set foot on site until Duke approves. I'm going to guess Duke looked at your 200A and 15.12kW and didn't see a reason to come out or call you. I'd hope...

90% of service cable and transformer rating cap

But wouldn't Duke want the service lateral gauged to handle my maximum unused production just in case the batteries are full? They'll do larger than XL. I'm adding 8 panels to an XL. They just run it through an engineering team to re-spec. Powerwalls installed at the time of the solar are included in the tax credit. I don't know their cost because I'm not getting any, but it looks like you're only deducting the...

90% of service cable and transformer rating cap

I'm fine with installing a new panel to deal with the 120% busbar limits, I'm in Florida where an outdoor panel with the main service disconnect is right next to the meter, then what most people would call a main panel is in the garage and it does not have a subpanel breaker in it. The inverters...
  49. S

90% of service cable and transformer rating cap

OK. I guess I'm surprised. I would expect the service disconnect to protect the cable from overload, and to have 1/0 cable for a 150 amp service that will likely need to upgrade to 2/0 to carry 200 amp service. That would give me more than the needed 90% headroom for a 19kW install. Unless I've...

So they're not going to calculate transformer load as what all my neighbors are capable of drawing plus what I'm capable of sending? I don't understand transformer design, only that they convert distance-friendly high voltage to two-phase 240v that homes can use. When you advise that the 90%...
