Any experience with third-party warranties in Canada?

Appears to be limited to Eastern Canada, quote not available for anything west of Ontario. Company appears to be brain-dead if they ignore the strongest EV market in Canada, which is Vancover & Victoria

057 Technology : Poll on Purchased Warranty Plans

I fully intended to buy the warranty once my Tesla battery warranty expires in 2024. I guess I dodged a bullet here.

EQS is tempting, if a bit on the expensive side - especially when figuring the options.

    1,900,000km Model S

How opinionated and really "fake" due to the facts omitted. The car came with 8 years of warranty without mileage limit, so it is safe to say that he only paid for a fraction of these service calls. His English is hard to understand, but it sounds like all the batteries were covered under the...

Keep 2016.5 90D or move to 2023 LR?

To be fair, a list of what you lose in moving to the current version of the Model S: 1. Real leather seats - unclear how the leatherette will hold up over time 2. Sun roof 3. Stalks on Steering Wheel for "eyes remain on the road" operation 4. Better screen set-up (portrait) for navigation - you...

Love my sunroof, can’t get myself to upgrade

Also holding on to my 2016 Model S for the foreseeable future. No goes for a new Model S in my view: No pano roof, plastic seats instead of leather, no stalks, loss of USS. Also not a fan of the landscape oriented screen - I want my navigation map displayed in the best way, I watch movies on my...

NEMA 14-50 outlets, be careful if you went cheap when you purchased them.

And while you're at it, make sure the breaker is good quality as well. My hard-wired wall-box managed to fry two breakers, on the Electrician's penny before they wisened up and installed a higher quality breaker. No issues since.

    Rear lower control arm, broken!

Car has been fixed now, Tesla did the right thing and changed the lower control arm on the right hand side as well. Sniplet from invoice, covered under used car warranty as expected: This looks like it would have been fairly expensive without the warranty still good.

    Rear lower control arm, broken!

Just got a catastrophic failure on the driver side, rear lower control arm as well. Happened in a parking lot, so not at speed. Left rear wheel was sitting at almost a 45 degree angle afterwards. Car is a 2016 90D with a close to 70k miles on it, luckily still under the Tesla Used Car Warranty...

    Pyro Fuse Fuss

You got to love the Internet. Person A posts information, even with evidence. Person B then comes along, with wrong or limited facts and creates doubts about person A's credibility. In mid-2020 Tesla's used car warranty was 2 years, if the car was older than four years, otherwise 4 years. In...

    Pyro Fuse Fuss

I finally got the pyro fuse replaced, after they rescheduled once due to missing parts. As expected, I did not pay for this, it was covered under the 4 year used car warranty (2016 Model S 90D, bought from Tesla in Summer 2020). Here is the interesting part from the invoice:

I don't have an estimate yet.

    Pyro Fuse Fuss

I got the BMS_u031 error last week and have an appointment with Tesla on Jul 31 to get it fixed. I have a 2016 Model S 90D with a good 70k miles on it, which is both under battery warranty and used car warranty (bought in 2020 from Tesla, 4 year warranty still came with the car at the time). So...

Is MCU2 upgrade worth it if I have LTE with 64GB emmc

Just like the OP, I have the MCU 1 (AP 1 car) with LTE and the new 64k eMMC. I heard a lot about performance issues with MCU 1, but I do not feel that that is true for my car. Navigation, controls and audio entertainment are snappy and working as they should. Since I rather watch movies at home...

Ccs retro for s,x article on Teslarati

Yes, there is. This will apply to most of Canada, especially British Columbia. In BC, CCS chargers (BC Hydro, Petro Canada) are pretty much everywhere. Superchargers are mostly limited to the Greater Vancouver area. I will get the retrofit kit installed on March 16, estimate is 484 CAD.

    FSD price increase - AGAIN!

As far as I am concerned (driving a 2016 Model S 90D) Tesla can shove their cars where the sun doesn't shine. Compared to my 2016 Model S: - EAP on AP1 works better (i.e. more reliably for the supported features) then the current implementation and was basically free - EAP for close to $8k and...

    Battery Range 2016 90D

I get that range if I am not on my winter tires (at least 20% less with winter tires). I am in a mild weather section of British Columbia, so 10°C to 25°C comprises most of the year for me. Also, we have a 90 km limit in most areas I regularly drive. Further, most of my driving is not on the...

    Battery Range 2016 90D

Very similar car here, early 2016 90D with 89.000 km. Full charge is around 440 km. Very little supercharging the last two years, no idea about the first four years, as I got the car used from Tesla in 2020. Real world mileage is a bit higher than 440 km.

    tesla S 90d range

I did see some odd range behaviour on my 2016 90D Nose Cone: Rated Range at 80% SOC has been a very stable 345 km (216 miles) since I got the car two years ago, which would equal exactly the 270 rated miles the car had when new. We rarely drive the car until almost empty, so I got a positive...

Is there an update on out of warranty battery replacement cost

Very one-sided answers here. There are people on the forum that have shown Tesla repair bills where the Model S battery pack was exchanged (with a rebuilt one) for $12k to $14k. Not sure what other engine rebuilds cost, but my Cadillac Allante had both a $9K engine rebuild (at 75,000 miles) and...

    DigitalOcean

That specific IP maps to mx.danb.email, which indicates a mail server running at this address. Digital Ocean is just the owner of the network on which this mail server is located, they could be contacted if the owner of that mail server really was malicious - I did not find any reports of...

15 degrees, snowing [discussion on energy situation in Texas]

You imply that these measure must increase cost, but if you look at electricity prices in British Columbia, Manitoba or Quebec (all mainly Hydro), they are among the lowest on the continent. Ontario (lots of nuclear) and Alberta (fossil) are typically a bit higher. Here is what I pay in BC...

    New 2021 Model S Unveiled January 27, 2021

I have grave doubts about the ergonomics and livability of the new interior design, apart from finding it ugly (this would do well in the base model VW id.3, but not in a luxury car): No vents No blinker stalk - there is a reason why every car for the last 50+ years has used this design to...

    Wow. MCU almost killed me.

I think the OP, just as myself, expects vital systems to be configured to fail safe - i.e. low beam lights default to on with the MCU failed and the car driving. How they do it: I really don't care. It could be a micro-controller that performs as a watchdog for the MCU, whatever.

    DU going bad?

I have a slightly louder whine on my recently bought 2016 S90D - even at low speeds. Car is at 40k miles and under warranty. So far I thought this to be normal, guess it might be time to talk to service? Beside the noise not being nice, does it indicate any imminent drive unit failure?

    Canada MCU 1

@ Gee, rooter appears to be such as positive thinking, friendly and super-funny person (not the first thread I noticed this) that I just couldn't take it anymore. So I had to add him/her/it to my Ignore list, unfortunately.

    Tesla ignoring older cars!

Considering that I just paid USD 38,000 for a loaded 2016 90D (38,000 miles) with a two year warranty from Tesla, I am not complaining about some missing gimicks - while I enjoy driving with my open sun roof.... Not sure I even care about the MCU 2 updates and full self-driving... well, I guess...

    Model S Trade-in heads up

Thank you, very happy with the car so far. Battery appears to hold 96+% of original capacity and there are very little signs of wear and tear (except for those tires). Also, the first owner apparently had Tesla take care of all the small issues typical for new Teslas, everything fits properly...

    Model S Trade-in heads up

Considering that I just picked up a very nicely equipped 2016 Model S 90D (Ocean Blue, pretty much with everything except Air Suspension and Premium Audio) from Tesla in Vancouver, BC for USD 38,000, I can't see that they would typically give high trade-in valuations - considering that the price...
