Dual chargers required in NW - Seattle area?

I got dual-charger on my MS that I took delivery of about 15 months ago. My experience is that I would have done fine without dual-chargers. Reason is how rarely I found high-amp chargers in the wild and the fast build-out of the supercharger network. Even when I have found high-amp chargers...

My first trip far away from home in my tesla

I generally agree that going WAY slower than the flow of traffic is at least inconsiderate of everyone else. But in my experience, even driving 5 miles below the speed limit I still catch up to a surprising number of other vehicles. In that section of highway I was driving there isn't much...

My first trip far away from home in my tesla

You'll do even better if you slow down to 55. I was driving from San Francisco to Portland a few months ago. Since I had done many road trips and really pushed the range of my car to the limit (see my avatar for evidence) I was quite comfortable with estimated how much charge I really needed...

My first trip far away from home in my tesla

Nice story. I think the first long trip for every Tesla owner is a little nerve-wrecking - especially once you are out of super-charger range. Figuring out charging options ahead of time - like you did - is an excellent first start. As others have mentioned, driving slow is the best way to...

    Phone App: iPhone/Android app

Thanks for the tip gbdesai. My Android app also stopped working on Friday - it would simply say "Unfortuneately, Tesla has stopped" and then end. I couldn't of anything that changed on my phone but I did upgrade LastPass to a version that could auto-fill password in other application. Turning...

Experience looking for an apartment with charging in Seattle area

Recently made a temporary move to the Seattle area. Prior to that I owned a house and I had a NEMA 14-50 outlet installed so daily charging was never a problem. My move was going to be into an apartment and I naturally wanted one with secure parking, a reserved spot for my car with an AC...

    Winter tire recommendations

Had our first snow fall in Hood River, OR a few weeks ago and realized that I really need to get snow tires on the Tesla. Ordered Nokian Hakka R2 based on the comments on TMC and having used Nokian WGR2 on my Prius (WGR2 don't come in 19" or I would have gotten them). Decided to just have...

    Frozen out of my car!

So I have only sprayed WD40 a few times into the latch mechanisms and haven't had a problem with the door NOT latching when closing. I was still having intermittent problems opening the doors in the cold weather. The driver handle presents itself but pulling it doesn't unlatch the door so I...

    Frozen out of my car!

Thanks for the tips @wycolo! It doesn't usually get this cold here. 18 degrees this morning and I was frozen out again. Everything did eventually thaw out. The biggest problem now is that the driver door won't latch shut - hopefully the WD40 will do the trick.

    Frozen out of my car!

20 degrees Fahrenheit (-7 C) this morning in Hood River, Oregon after 2-3 days of heavy rain. No snow on the car, just frost on the windows and body. I started pre-warming the Tesla as I usually do. When I got out there I notice that the door handles took longer than usual to present...

    Anyone else experiencing "Driver's Foot"

I had a similar problem. I found tilting the seat forward helped a lot so it wasn't putting as much pressure on my thigh (or calf - digging into the calf is only a problem for short folks like me). I already use cruise control whenever I can. One thing I don't like is how the max regen...

Driver's Foot is pain or discomfort in your foot/ankle due to using the accelerator pedal a lot. "Zero" means "Zero" - Caution about Vegas to LA trip!

I've gone down to zero (see my avatar) but didn't get stranded. One night, I thought I had plenty of range to make the 40 mile drive home on I-84 so I decided to drive it REALLY, REALLY fast. I noticed how quickly my range was dropping but decided to push it anyway. When my rated range was...

Strong Noise when driving above 67mph

Wow! I started noticed the same problem about 2-3 weeks ago (before I found this thread). Same thing that mknox says - noisy when the power meter is orange, silent when in the green - doesn't seem to be related to overall speed. I thought it might have had something to do with the weather...

Do you carry your Mobile Connector with you when ever you leave the house?

I only take it if either: - I'm planning on charging at an RV park - staying overnight somewhere so I plug into an A/C outlet - even if it is only a 110v Otherwise I have enough range to get me to where I'm going and back - and as you can see from my avatar - I've pushed it to the limit :-)

Tesla Model S rental in Toronto?

I live in Hood River, OR. I will be making a trip to Toronto to visit family. I have told them about my Model S but it is still pretty abstract to them. I would love to be able to rent a Model S while in Toronto for a few days and show them how it works as part of one's day-tp-day life -...

Portland to Boise charging options :(

I sent an email to Wildhorse Casino that they should consider installing some J1772 high-amp chargers (240v, 80A) to attract Tesla owners since they are basically halfway (220 miles) between Portland and Boise. Hanging out in the casino or one of their restaurants would be a good way to kill...

Coated windshield impacting door openers and EZpass

Great information in this thread! My "FastPass" for going over the toll bridge at Hood River, OR wouldn't work through the windshield so they gave me a motorcycle transponder. Another owner had suggested putting it in the nose cone and I had the Tesla service people in Portland do it. It never...

Is There Any Business Model For Public Electric-Car Charging?

I think it comes down to supply and demand that will dictate how much can be charged - if anything at all. From what I can tell right now in my area - there is more supply of charging spaces than demand. Probably because there aren't that many EVs. And with my Model S, I rarely charge at...

    Unlocking the Doors from inside

Thanks a bunch! I tried both these out. Not obvious that "unlock" on the touchscreen would pop out the handles but it works! Haha - I decided to drive home late one night REALLY FAST thinking I had plenty of range to spare and just made it with 0 miles.

    Unlocking the Doors from inside

Is there a way for the driver to pop out the door handles? Scenario: I pull up to pick my friend up. He can't quite remember what to do to get the door handles to pop out. I have to roll down the window and explain to him how to do it. Is there a simple way I can just pop out the door...

Some people think that 30 minutes is too long to wait for a charge

When I am giving demonstrations of my car to friends (and strangers) I always ask - "Where can you get free gas"? Answer is no where - nobody gives out free gasoline. But there are plenty of places (at least around the Pacific Northwest) where you can get free electricity and Superchargers...

Negative attitudes towards the Model S in Seattle?

If someone is going off on you because of the cost of the car - it isn't because it's a Tesla Model S. They'll have issues with anything awesome and expensive. I also think they are very mis-informed because we are basically helping finance making this technology more affordable for a wider...

    Reliability of Superchargers?

Thanks for the tip! So TM does monitor which SCs are "hot". Would be cool if they had a web page with SC status - like online / offline as well as how many charger are available - like 8/8 (all available) or 0/8 (all being used). ChargePoint does this and it is very handy! I agree that any...

    Reliability of Superchargers?

I am planning a road trip and using superchargers along the way so I can drive as I normally do rather than trying to conserve battery. But if I plan on a supercharger and it isn't working them I'm screwed - well not stranded but spending a LOT of time charging at some nearby EV station. How...

Wow - I had no idea the "oddly refreshing" comment would be resonate with people! Yeah - usually when I'm on a road trip its all about keeping moving. Even with superchargers I will have to stop for 30 minutes or more and I'd rather take a refreshing walk (hopefully it will no longer feel...

How does this bid sound for a garage outlet?

If it is parts & labor it is fair. I think I paid $450. Most of the cost is the labor. I also asked that they use wiring that could handle 100 A so that if I decided to install an HPWC later, they wouldn't have to run new wiring - just upgrade the circuit breaker.
