240 volt 30 amp circuit installation question

20 and 22 could have been used for the charger and the bottom one could have taken the garage opener... Was this guy the lowest bidder? ;)

240 volt 30 amp circuit installation question

Each breaker must be on a different phase, otherwise you wouldn't be getting 240V to the car (does it read 240v on the screen while charging? like others said above, the breakers need to be tied together, with the garage opener breaker in between two charger breakers im assuming he tied all 3...

    Final Payment

I was able to set up autopay with US bank online, just downloaded the app and put in the loan details... For OP, I wouldn’t recommend wiring final payment, bring a check and don’t hand it over before you have gone over the car.

    Road trip suggestions

Thanks for good tips. I also prefer the % VS miles. I was going to start the trip with 15-17% left at charger arrivals, I will start there and build some trust in the car / ABRP and might cut that down

    Road trip suggestions

That sounds very similar to what im doing, i feel more and more confident this will be a pretty easy trip. Did you ever have to wait for chargers to free up? did you use the onboard navigation to plan charging stops etc?

    Road trip suggestions

Yeah the first two days are tough, I guess I could end day 1 in Willcox AZ at the supercharger which is next to a holiday inn (580 miles) but then day 2 I can’t really go much further than San Antonio which is still a pretty long day (790 miles), which might be ok for day 3 and 4, it’s an option...

    Road trip suggestions

I think different people just have different opinion on what long driving days are, We did over 950 miles in one day on our last drive with the ICE car, and I spent a lot of my younger days towing a car transport trailer through Europe for work with an underpowered bmw 5 series. Once the trip is...

    Road trip suggestions

Yes planing on sticking on the 10 all the way I think autopilot will help a lot on the long stretches through Texas, I have been toying with 17% left at charging stops on ABRP, I’ve been keeping an eye on the windy app and I will plug that into the calculation once I get closer and on the...

    Road trip suggestions

Thanks for your reply when you say maxing out your charge saved you, do you mean it was saying you would make the next charger but you decided to charge extra and wouldn’t have made it with the original scheduled charging time? interesting that you had to wait in line, I’ve been keeping an eye...

    Road trip suggestions

Hi all, I’m looking for some advice from some seasoned model 3 road trippers. I’m going to be driving from Los Angeles to Orlando in about 2 weeks. I’ve done the trip in two and a half days earlier in the year in a ICE car, yes we were pushing big time with 12-14 hour days. I’m currently...

Great Rim Rash Repair - Grey 20” on P3D+

I will second this recommendation, I just had Carlos repair my rim rash. I was beyond upset yesterday when I rashed it, he came out the same day I called him and it is a darn near flawless repair. He charged me $100 and was done in 30 minutes. No sense in an after pic because the camera can’t...

    Total braking system failure?

I agree with you, so many people on here just assume the person doesn't know what they are talking about or try to find the smallest reason to sow some doubt in the story, I understand Tesla gets alot of extra attention from haters and trolls but it gets ridiculous on here sometimes and the knee...

mould in the boot ( trunk) model 3 (11 months old)

Sounds like a plan, you could perhaps put some kind of desiccant bag down there in the future, a quick search found this: https://www.amazon.com/Vehicle-Dehumidifier-Moisture-Absorber-Eater/dp/B00ELK8W8C looks like its ships from the UK too...

mould in the boot ( trunk) model 3 (11 months old)

Ugh that sucks... one thing I notice in the picture is you have what looks like dried up rusty water right by the catch hook for the trunk, could be a sign that you have water getting into an area where it shouldn't, causing rust to form and then leaking down into the storage well... also you...
  18. R

    Total braking system failure?

Yes, but this testing was done at Pocono, a 2 mile oval track, depending on the freshness of your tires you will only be lifting the throttle and not using the brakes, luckily he kept the car on the track and then just killed the ignition at corner exit, the pedal then came unstuck so he could...

    Total braking system failure?

I didn’t say it would be a simple failure mode, or that it has anything to do with incompetent engineering on anyone’s part. It’s clear that the OP had some major electrical/electronic issue affecting hardware in different areas of the car systems before the issue. if every automotive project...
  20. R

    Total braking system failure?

Yes, I think it’s on too, I just wanted to point out how short the throw is and how easy it is to floor the brake without doing it out on the road, even if it took 2.5 times the force like in a typical vacuum assisted system, it would be easy to floor it and think it’s “locked”
  21. R

    Total braking system failure?

no I didn’t say I think they know it has a deadly defect. I’m saying its possible for it to fail for a multitude of reasons. I’ve worked on a bunch of R&D and qualification projects on geared actuators for aerospace and I have seen actuators that have been rigorously designed, tested, qualified...
  22. R

    Total braking system failure?

This makes sense, however there might very well be failure modes where the booster makes the pedal lock up, but I think the OPs issue is ABS / ABS software related issue brought on by some kind of failure in the 12V system.
  23. R

    Total braking system failure?

No, unplugging you would just backdrive the motor and pedal force would increase. only way i can see no brakes scenario in the booster part of the system is if the motor or gears get jammed up by something, There might even be a failsafe for that, like a breakaway clutch or something. but I...
  24. R

    Total braking system failure?

i think theres a solid connection thru the whole booster, but with a small designed axial "play" which the differential sensor senses, and then demands motor movement to assist. if the motor doesnt have power the "threads" allow you to turn the "dead" motor along. however if a gear breaks of...
  25. R

    Total braking system failure?

Yes im sure there is a fail safe, how much harder would it be to push, not sure!
  26. R

    Total braking system failure?

Yes it is a thing, a modern ABS module has the ability to isolate the mechanical pressure created by your foot from the individual circuits leading to the brake calipers, and to bleed pressure from said circuits, its not out of the realm of possibility that some bizarre 12V issue made the ABS...

What percentage of Model 3s are "lemons"

I had a Mercedes C63 a few years ago, I was the second owner and I had it for about 2.5 years, it spent a good 5-6 weeks in the shop during my ownership for different warranty work. One time the body control module died out in palm desert, ended up having to drive it home 110 miles To LA with...

Im a bit confused, is your car running the hvac heater to keep itself at 91 degrees with keep climate on turned off? or do you suspect some other electronics in the car is causing the temp to rise?

Water inside the car after wash

Bring it in no matter what, you could be damaging stuff behind the dash, lots of electronics and sound proofing that could be soaked and potentially growing mold and mildew.
  30. R

Water inside the car after wash

I’m guessing its not from your door, probably coming in from other side of fire wall, probably though hvac or a body panel gap that is missing sealant. You could pop off the plastic cover at the top of the frunk but I would make an appointment for service right away. Make sure you dry the carpet...

Waiting until after battery day to order...

i think your right, i think they just decided to have a common part between Y and 3 and save some money, I have the new type of plastic frunk tub and no heat pump. (took delivery late july) I know they become less and less effective as temps go down but i dont know where the limit goes. i...

"Charge rate reduced, Unplug and retry" error requires battery replacement

From what I read before buying the car I found the vast majority of people who had documented onboard chargers or DC/DC converters fail after the 4 year warranty ran out had to pay out of pocket even if the battery and drive unit warranty was still valid. it seems Tesla is taking a hard line...

"Charge rate reduced, Unplug and retry" error requires battery replacement

I might be wrong but im not sure the onboard Charger, AC/DC and the DC/DC converters are a part of the Battery and drive unit warranty. i think those are just covered by the regular new car warranty, there is no specific mention of them in the warranty document under the battery and powertrain...

EAP (Enhanced Auto Pilot) for $4k. Who’s in?

I'm confused about this inventory car

i got my car from "inventory" took them 3-5 days to move it from San Diego to LA so in my case I believe the car was actually built and on location by the time i hit "buy". I dont think they would list the location if it wasn't built and delivered or at least on its way to the destination...

    35 days without Charging

A note on this, I left the car with 75% battery and the charging level slider at 70% and plugged it in, and scheduled charging for 1am, I have a separate meter that is dedicated to the charger and it never used any power over the 10 days so unless your planing on using sentry or cabin overheat...

Got my M3 today. Love it. But....

Ok, same issue i had then, its because they didnt lock the steering wheel straight at the factory during the front alignment procedure, you have the correct amount of toe on the front axle, but the wheel is not "centered", its basically "cosmetically" but very annoying (atleast for me)

Got my M3 today. Love it. But....

Never meant it to sound like you were not genuine, sorry if it came across like it. Question: is it pulling to the right as in that you need to apply left turning force to the steering wheel to keep it going straight? or is the wheel just turned a little to the right when your going down a...

Failed Rear Lower Control Arm / Service Bulletin SB-19-31-001

I think its ridiculous that Tesla hasn't done a recall on this, its clearly dangerous if it happens at any speed. I would honestly just take it to another shop, A tesla is no different than any other car when it come to suspension work, you just need someone who can turn a nut and bolt and do...

Got my M3 today. Love it. But....

I had the same issue, but I reported it within a few hours of picking it up. I would ask them to show proof it is damaged by a pothole. And if they still won’t do it for free I would take it somewhere else, I heard someone else got a quote for over $500 for an alignment, you can get it done for...

    How to tighten knuckle bolts

If you do it with the car sitting on the ground you won’t need the torx. You might not need it even if you are jacked up. It’s only there so the joint doesn’t spin as the nut goes on for the first time in the factory. The torque is reacted on the taper once the joint is seated. That little...

Be aware! Missing Control Arm Nut: Potential Safety Issue

For those of you who go to put a wrench on this, if it’s loose don’t just tighten it up and call it good, the control arm joint sits in a taper in the knuckle arm. If it’s been beating back and forth it has probably done damage to the taper and won’t seat properly anymore, and could work it’s...

Performance tire got sliced on Pothole. Replace 2 or just the one?

Change both, the diff will constantly have a differential speed with two mismatched tires, granted im sure it will be fine, but what are you going to do when the other side is worn but you still have life in your newer tire? Keep buying just one tire?
