    Charger location in garage

Agree with this. Put a Nema 14-50 socket in position A. We run the mobile charge cord under the garage door and charge our electric cars that way. Super easy to back the car up to the garage door (outside) and plug it in. My wife's car is a Mustang Mach-E and we charge it the same way...

Wall connector compatability to existing breaker panel?

A/C runs all night long during the summer in Texas. Never stops until October... Anyway our electric rates are the same, day and night.

Wall connector compatability to existing breaker panel?

What size is the panel - 200 amps? Looks like it might be max'd out already. Do you have a clamp on current meter? Make some measurements...

Tesla Wall Connector Price Drop to $495 from $550 [ordered direct from tesla]

With the key fob in my pocket, I can press the mobile charger button and the charge port opens. If the car is asleep, then it takes two button presses. Always works for me. Not really. I just charge up the car when it gets down to 50% or less. Then it just takes 2 to 3 hours to recharge...

Tesla Wall Connector Price Drop to $495 from $550 [ordered direct from tesla]

I installed a 14-50R socket (Bryant 9450FR) with wiring for $75 total cost. The socket is high quality and works great. I leave the mobile charger plugged in all the time. The tesla mobile charger has been powered on for more than a year now. I use the tesla mobile charger for two electric...

After charging, the screen reported 15 KW used. Is this the total power pulled from the socket?

A small correction - I'm seeing the charge total on the tesla app on my phone, not on the car screen. Today I charged from 28% to 81%, (25 KW shown on the app). So this charge cost $3.98 and took 3.5 hours. Not bad....

After charging, the screen reported 15 KW used. Is this the total power pulled from the socket?

That makes sense. At 88% efficiency, the power from the wall socket would be 17 KW. So the total cost to charge was $2.38. Seems cheaper than gas... :)

After charging, the screen reported 15 KW used. Is this the total power pulled from the socket?

I have a standard range M3 (2020). After finishing the charge, the car reported 15 KW used. I use 240 volts at 32 amps to charge. Went from 48% to 80%. So I took my last electric bill total, divided by the total KW used for the month and came up with $0.14 per KW. This includes taxes...

    Small Screen Font on UI

After I bought my Tesla M3, I got a lot of questions from family and friends. All asked how I liked the car - most were considering buying a Tesla. Then they asked about using the LCD screen while driving. I told them the truth - I don't even try to use except at a stop light. Too hard to...

Questions about condo charging near the ocean

That 3 miles per hour number is for the model S and model X. The model 3 get 6 miles per hour. That is 144 miles per day, if it is plugged in all the time. The model 3 has a much better charger.

Questions about condo charging near the ocean

Buy a 15' extension (12 gauge) from Lowes. These are well designed, heavy duty extensions designed to run power tools (saws). Cost is $35. First try it out at home and see how well it works.

Questions about condo charging near the ocean

It is always good to mention this. In my garage, there are a couple of outlets on the same circuit. But none are in use - at all. Yes, if I were using a power saw or drill, sure. The total charging draw on that circuit is 12 amps. So it is at the 15 amp breaker limit (for continuous use)...

Questions about condo charging near the ocean

I'm getting 6 miles per hour with a normal outlet in the garage. During charging, the voltage shown is 120 volts. I drive 15 to 30 miles, daily. I only need to charge every other day. Sometimes I will go two days without charging. I've even run the car down to 18% and charged it up over...

how normal is it for center screen to crash and lose functionality?

Had one event. I was driving at dusk and the screen turned off. I pulled over and pressed (and held) the two scroll buttons on the steering wheel. Nothing happened. So I started driving again (headlights were off). It was a rural road. I started sweating it, wondering how I could get...

    14-50 outlet on a 120V circuit?

I just plug my car into a standard garage socket. It does 12 amps at 120 volts - which is 6 miles per hour. This is more than enough if your daily commute is less than 30 miles. I plug in at 6pm and leave at 9am. That gives 15 hours of charging - around 90 miles of range. In winter, plan on...

    Wind Noise Solution?

I noticed that the tire inflation pressure makes a difference in road noise. At 37 psi, it was noisier than 40 psi. My guess is at the higher inflation pressure (40 psi), the tires have a smaller contact patch with the road - thus less noise. I could be wrong as I did not use a decibel meter...

    Odd battery behavior

Maybe the battery is cooling down while it is parked (low outside temperature), reducing its range. Do you have a heated garage at home?

    Range Anxiety....Just saying

Absolutely true. In this case, the OP has not yet bought the car. That drive from El Paso to Austin must be one of the most boring, non-scenic ever. It is flat desolate land that stretches on for hundreds of miles. To sit in a car for 8+ hours looking at that landscape is brutal (to me at...

    Range Anxiety....Just saying

Ok, I will say it... Why not just take a southwest flight? You are looking at 8.5 hours on the road each way (not including the supercharger stops). You will be beat after driving that amount of time. Total time would be in the 10 hour range. My prediction is you would just do this drive...

This is a good sign. Your service center is proactively saw an issue and got it fixed. Be sure to ask what that issue was so you can verify the fix happened (correctly).

Any way to get Homelink on a 2021 M3 LR without paying $300 to Tesla? Thx.

Ok I get it now. You are using the homelink to open the garage door just to walk through it (not use it as a garage for the car). Now it make sense (to me).

Any way to get Homelink on a 2021 M3 LR without paying $300 to Tesla? Thx.

Ok, just playing devil's advocate here... Leave one car in the garage, take the car in the driveway. ;) With regard to the registration and insurance, wouldn't that be in the locked glovebox?

Any way to get Homelink on a 2021 M3 LR without paying $300 to Tesla? Thx.

How would the person breaking into your car (to steal the garage opener) know where you live? If that happened, you could easily change the code (or dip switch) in the garage opener. Or is your car parked outside your house?

    Pick Up Day 2021 SR+ M3 didn’t go well!

Don't be too quick to reject it. My car had paint issues that the service center caught (before I saw it). My delivery was postposed for 10 days while the car was in the body shop. The body shop did a great job - probably better than Tesla's normal paint job. I was super happy with the...

Texas Vehicle Title & Registration Waiver

If you pay the sales tax before the end of the year, you can take a deduction on your federal income tax. This year, I doubled up on paying my property tax (2019 tax paid in January, 2020 tax paid in November). This can save you a fair amount of federal income tax.

Many questions on home wall charger. Help appreciated.

Ok here is a real life example: I drove 26 miles yesterday. That was 8 short trips (to work, to a store, home for lunch, out to lowes for some parts, home, work, gym, home). The car (2020 SR+) energy screen showed that 39.5 miles of energy was consumed. It was a cold 40 degree day here so...

Tesla is asking me to pay car before it arrives (cash deal). Is that normal?

Not in Texas. You must have insurance (with the vin number) in place before the car is transported in to Texas. All of us here in Texas have had to do this. It is the law.

Tesla is asking me to pay car before it arrives (cash deal). Is that normal?

Many questions on home wall charger. Help appreciated.

Since I only need to charge my car every 3 to 4 days, she would charge on one of those available days. Dirt simple. There are 14 hours available every night (plug in at 6pm, unplug at 8am). This gives 84 miles a night. Even if I reduce it by 35% (for subfreezing temperatures), that would be...

Many questions on home wall charger. Help appreciated.

My car charges up at 6 miles per hour (12 amps) from a 120 volt socket in my garage. Since I drive 20 to 30 miles every day, this easily fills up the car over night. I can go several days before recharging the car. My wife will be buying a Tesla M3 also in a few months. One 120 volt socket...

Master Thread: Definitive 14-50 NEMA Outlet Guide

Before I got my car, I made a home depot shopping list for a nema 14-50 outlet. Cost was $8.89 for (crappy) Leviton 50amp socket, $2.13 for a 4" box, $2.94 for the outlet wall plate. Total was $14. Probably the electrician has short pieces of romex wire left over from other jobs. He could...

Delivery / Service Issues (panel gaps, delivery delays / issues / Service problems etc)

One small correction. If you live in Texas, you will need to prepay the entire amount before Tesla can ship the car (in to Texas). Additionally, you will need to have purchased car insurance with the vin number a week (or two) before it gets shipped into Texas. Apparently this is Texas law...

SR/SR+ (Model 3 RWD) Waiting Room

Master Thread: Definitive 14-50 NEMA Outlet Guide

You don't have to charge it up all the way, in one night. My routine is to run the car down to 30% to 40%, then charge it over night. Usually that brings it up to 80%. I only charge the car once ever 3 to 4 days. The 115 volt outlet works great. I average 20 to 30 miles a day. I have a...

I decided to just move the money from various accounts (wells fargo checking, e-trade brokerage, schwab ira) all into my schwab brokerage account. I get 6 miles per hour. Our voltage here is 120 v. Worst case might be 5 miles per hour which is more than enough for a 20 to 30 mile a day commute. The model S get 3 miles per hour. The model 3 is better in that regard.
