    Considering buying a 2019/2020 X - concerned about “X issues” thoughts please!

My 2016 P90D has been relatively problem free with one exception: Suspension I purchased it 2yr ago w/ 89k on it, and I'm currently at 126k. In my 2yrs, most of my expense has been suspension work: front upper and both lower sets of control arms, rear camber and toe arms, a wheel bearing, and...

Fender trim came off going through puddle

I had to have both fender garnishes replaced at the same time: Driver - Bumped a snow pile and it pulled free, eventually broke loose Passenger - While waiting for "parts" - the passenger side literally flew off while driving down the highway - no previous damage to garnish, so real weird...

FS :2016 Model X P90D Ludicrous - Loaded with all options - CPO Warranty - Matte Black Wrap - SOLD

If you bought from Tesla as used, you should be able to run the VIN through EV-CPO and return the SC value. If SC01, it should confidently transfer in a private sale. :)

    Supercharger - Eagan, MN

I used to be there every day, as my kiddos were in daycare across the parking lot. I'm not over there as often now as they're in preschool/elementary. In other words, Tesla did me no favors taking so long to get this one going. 😂

Most reliable way to buy a used 2016-2018 Model X - tesla direct, carmax, carvana, shift, vroom?

Cashier's check or direct wire transfer would be preferable ways of payment for the seller. I financed my private party Model X purchase back in fall of 2021, and it was pretty painless. Had everything setup w/ my local CU before I flew out to Florida. Once I inspected and drove the car, I...

    '23 X vs '23 Y

I was faced w/ this choice in summer of 2021. I really wanted an X, and the used pricing was finally coming to about the same price as a brand new Y at the time, but then Tesla raised the pricing on the Y. I shopped and waited, and got a '16 Model X P90D, private party. Drove it home from SE...

Is the model x good in the snow?

I live in Minnesota, so here's what I can tell you about my '16 Model X in snow: 1. It handles better than any SUV/Crossover I have ever owned (BMW X5, Subaru Tribeca, Infinti QX60, etc etc) - the traction control and braking systems do an excellent job! 2. Depending on how slick it is where...

Did I find a rare beast?

Depending on ownership/sale history, you may be able to drop the VIN into EV-CPO and see the full build options. It's not a guarantee, but should be accurate as of the last time Tesla publicly posted it for sale (assuming it was resold by Tesla, etc). The P90D badging being underlined...

Impact of suspension ride height and regenerative braking settings on range and Wh/mile

I'm in Minnesota, and my average winter wh/mi is about 420 - 460 depending on wind and ambient temps in the typical 15F - 30F range. Last week, it was -10F and windy, and I was up over 500. I hit 600wh/mi driving my son back and forth to school. I also run 19" square wheels and snow tires in...

Buying a Used MX (2016-2017) Final Checklist

I wasn't super clear: There are fore and aft lower control arms, or at least there are on the Performance. I had to get both sets done. Tesla replaced the fore arms, as they were sqeaking pretty bad. They said everything else was "in spec". I immediately noticed a big jump in consumption, I...

Buying a Used MX (2016-2017) Final Checklist

Were both control arm sets up front replaced? Suspension is a big wear item on the X. I have an early 2016, and just recently had to do both lower sets and the rear camber and toe arms. I also had the front brakes/rotors replaced. Was about $6k USD all said and done.

Buying used Tesla Y or X.

I debated the Y, even before the 7 seat was actually being produced. Ultimately, they raised the price to where it no longer made sense for me given how much more I liked the X. I ended up w/ a 2016 X and have been very happy with it. The S with rear facing seats will work for an occasional...

Wiper Blade Sizes and Wiper fluid question

The aftermarket wipers from Amazon are identical to the Tesla wipers. They're about $20 less expensive and you don't have to deal w/ Tesla to get them. Really easy to install. Here's the old next to the new (new ones still have the covers over the actual blade).

    Tire recommendation for 2017 model X p90d

Winter: I have 19" Nokian Hakkapalita R3's Summer: 20" staggered Tesla wheels w/ Cross Climate 2's I went w/ the Cross Climate's to give me a little more usable time in the year before having to put on winter wheels. The weather can fluctuate a lot in MN as we approach winter, so not feeling...

Grinding Noise (Driver Side Front Window)

Did you find a fix for this? It's winter here in Minnesota, so I assumed I have some small ice chunks that have built up inside the door around the window track given the quick descent into sub 30F weather. I mixed some rubbing alcohol and water, and squirted it on both sides of the glass...

Question about Unicorns - does a Model X 100d or p100d with transferable free supercharging exist? Likely has to be late 2016 or early 2017 model?

Short of trying to get Tesla to answer, you can try running a VIN through EV-CPO. Not an exact science, because it could have been stripped for whatever reason after the last time EV-CPO saw it.

    Model X: Average Wh/mile Tracker

Turns out, after the SC did the aft lower control arms in front, they never properly validated alignment. They also failed to identify the fore lower arms needed replacing as well. The bushings were literally ripped open. Independent local shop took care of that, got me back into alignment...

    Supercharger - Eagan, MN

Agreed I still think one larger install near the 35 split would have made more sense, while Western and Northern MN are underserved currently. But, living in Burnsville and having FUSC, I'm also not really complaining about the convenience once Bloomington and Eagan are up. Will be nifty...

    ‘18 MX A/C Issue

In theory, any shop capable of doing a proper AC recover and recharge should be able to evacuate the system and refill w/ dye. They may/may not even be able to repair a basic leak in an accessible place. I'd personally go that route, unless you're in warranty.

    ‘18 MX A/C Issue

If the compressor sounds like it's firing up and then stopping, I would start by having the system recovered and recharged, preferably w/ dye so that any leaks can be detected. One would guess it's a leak.

RIP to my tires after two SC visits

Model X is back with new Cross Climate 2's. My efficiency is back down to about 380wh/mi mixed driving on my daily kiddo drop-off. I couldn't get it below 450 wh/mi prior to getting everything back in line, no matter how gently I drove it. The independent shop that got me sorted out said I'm...

RIP to my tires after two SC visits

They were on the car when I purchased back in October. I believe last fall, before I swapped to my winters, they were at around 8/32. I would have expected 5/32 to get me through the fall until my winter wheels/snow tires went back on. I have to believe it's a huge part of my efficiency...

RIP to my tires after two SC visits

My 2016 P90D had just crossed the 100k mark and it developed a creaking at low speeds. Local SC replaced the lower control arms, and suggested I do the brakes and rotors. I realized pretty quickly after that my efficiency was off, as I was suddenly up 60 to 80 wh/mi over my current average...

Sudden loss of range - Battery temps higher than expected

SC aid everything was in "normal.operational range" despite running 456wh/MI over the last 500mi. They noted I am "slightly above average consumption". I had them do the AC recover/recharge anyway, as it wasn't going to hurt and it's 6yrs old with 102k. First 6mi from the SC to a supercharger...

Creaking/Squeaking control arm ball joint fix

Ended up being lower control arms for me, and NOT the uppers as I had thought. $900 to the SC and they were done quickly once they got the parts in from another local SC. The tech that did the work and test ride w/ me to start identifying the issue said that when the uppers start to go, they...

Creaking/Squeaking control arm ball joint fix

Guessing I'll be fitted w/ new ones this week. Tried injecting grease and while it quieted things, the creaking doesn't go away completely. Just about 101K on the old gal (only about 10K on my battery and front drive motor though!). Won't be surprised if the link ends need to get done as well.

Model Y Uberturbine wheels on a Model X

Here's what my invoice says: 19 X8 5-120.00 38 I assume 38 based on that. I wouldn't have thought that 3mm difference would have been enough, but to be honest, until this very moment, I never thought about it and just assumed the 265/50/19 would have had enough clearance. I never heard any...

Model Y Uberturbine wheels on a Model X

I think 295's would be too big for the fronts w/o spacers. My winter wheels are 19's, and I went w/ 255/50's, and still ended up rubbing the ABS sensors on both sides. One had to get replaced. The SC re-ran both a little differently and said they bent one of the brackets to hold them out of...

    Model X front end creaking

Took another look at things last night. I definitely pierced through both sides of the boot with the needle on the grease gun, so plenty of grease has worked it's way out from my injection. Cleaned the boot with a microfiber towel, hit w/ some MAF cleaner (I have brake cleaner, but was...

    Model X front end creaking

Looks like I'll be joining the club. I did try and inject grease into both upper arms. Also sprayed down the rest of the bushings w/ silicone lubricant. It quieted things down to make it tolerable, but I have an appointment w/ my local SC next week. What I have noticed is that if ambient...

    Improper tire size?

FWIW, I still think checking the wheel speed sensors is a good starting place. That's reasonably well documented as a cause of the multiple systems becoming unavailable like you're experiencing for the S and X. ETA: My issue started as intermittent as well, and over a couple days got to the...

    AP2 repeaters on AP1 car

I'm 100% OK w/ AP1, but wish there was a way to upgrade the sidemarkers to the AP1 w/ cam and get around view for when parking.
