    SolarEdge Inverter Replacement

Good to hear it's worked out for you so far. I'm not sure how Tesla's black box zigbee works compared to SE's zigbee white box, but I imagine they might be similar. On my SE zigbee, it gets repaired with an inverter by hold down a red button until all the lights start flashing. It's then looking...

    SolarEdge Inverter Replacement

Sorry to hear that. It took one month from when my third party installer called the RMA in to it arriving at my door step. I actually have a good repour with my installer and I told him I'd install and commission it. He came and took pictures of my work and sent it to my solar company for the...

Old Tesla App No Longer Working

Same here. Woke up to check my PW percentage and couldn't log in. I feel the same way you folks do about the old and new app. I think it's Tesla's way of forcing the garbage new app upgrade on old version users.

Cannot log into the powerwall app

I'm assuming you're talking about the Tesla app. I'm having the same problem. Are you running the old or new version of the Tesla app?

    SolarEdge Inverter Replacement

I had a 7600 fail in late Novemeber last year. My third party installer came out and got on the phone with Solaredge tech support. As soon as he mentioned VCAP21 failure and that the inverter would not go in to production the Solaredge rep said they'll RMA the unit. It took a month to get a new...

    Inverter Shutting Down

Or a Solaredge HD wave inverter. That would work just as well if not better than the Tesla inverter considering it doesn't need an active cooling system and operates at 99% efficiency.

That's unbelievably extreme IMO, but, to each his own.

How to change gateway to never export?

In your case, your solar export is specifically controlled by your SE inverters, not by the gateway. If you don't have an SE RGM attached to your system then you can disregard the below information. I'm assuming you have an SE RGM (revenue grade meter) attached to you SE inverters which allows...

Using the SolarEdge App, how to tell if you have as bad optimizer, Panels?

It's not very hard at all, but it does require some basic knowledge and understanding of how the TG works and how to get in to it. I'm not going to go in to detail in this forum on how to do it. If you're interested in more information on how to do this please PM me.

Using the SolarEdge App, how to tell if you have as bad optimizer, Panels?

Excellent point and I'm sure that's why Tesla has not noticed me charging my PW's ,at will, from the grid on poor solar days for the last 5 months. And no @jjrandorin, I'm not on some crusade again. I'm just illustrating the point that @Vines is making that Tesla is not looking at...

Using the SolarEdge App, how to tell if you have as bad optimizer, Panels?

If you have the none display type SE inverters you can use an app called "setapp". It's the installers app to commission and diagnose problems with your inverter and/or optimizers. Anyone can register as an installer if you have an email address. I'll caveat all this by saying do this at your...

    Powerwall at South Facing Location

That's a bit of a loaded question there. The number of wires that can be run through a conduit is based on the size/type of conduit and gauge (size) of wire/wires running through the conduit. Then there's the fill/space requirement. The NEC specifications are: One wire: maximum fill is 53% of...

Storm Watch failed us again [in MA, Late July 2021]

It really sounds like storm watch shouldn't solely concentrate on the individuals geographic location, but also take in to account where the power is coming from to feed individuals and what the NWS says about that geographic location. As an example, if the power plant/substations are located...

Powerwall Gateway WiFi Unavailable. No Stats or Control Available via App or Gateway

Yeah that sucks. Unfortunately, it does sound like an issue with your Neurio module/comms board which you now verified were completely powered off. There's a lot of capacitance in the system to be discharged. That's why it takes so long for everything to completely loose power and shut down.
  16. F

Powerwall Gateway WiFi Unavailable. No Stats or Control Available via App or Gateway

That's what Teslas cold start/reboot procedure calls for. The big thing is to get the gateway to power off for sure. So 10 minutes or until the gateway is 100% powered off. Or figure out what breaker you're missing to get the gateway to power off.
  17. F

Powerwall Gateway WiFi Unavailable. No Stats or Control Available via App or Gateway

Did you still have power to the gateway while these were all off for 10 minutes?
  18. F

Powerwall Gateway WiFi Unavailable. No Stats or Control Available via App or Gateway

You should have a panel with breakers for your PWs and inverters. Did you shut those breakers along with your service disconnect? Shut everything off and leave it off for 10 minutes.

SolarEdge HD Wave SE10000H Failure - Tesla Repair Time Estimate

The older models with the displays seem to have a much higher failure rate than the newer non-display models. I read somewhere that SE had an issue with a capacitor supplier at one point and that was one of the reasons for so many failures at one point. A whole bunch of the display models were...

Anyone have a fire ball extinguisher (or something similar) placed on top of your PW? Which one did you get?

I wouldn't recommend putting a fire extinguisher near the thing you think will be on fire. I would put it some where away from the PW that is easily accessible. That said, if you insist on having a fire extinguisher for your PW, use a standard ABC or dry chemical fire extinguisher. Litihium ion...

Tesla: we need more control over our PowerWalls

Oh yes, I'm sorry. I don't think I do understand the issue. I apologize for my ignorance in the post. That's unfortunate the software algorithm prevents us from doing this. The example pictured below is what we'd like to being doing. 😞
  23. F

Tesla: we need more control over our PowerWalls

That is the quintessential statement right there. It's a shame there's no way to take control of our PW's and let them charge from the grid ,at will, to avoid expensive peak charges. Maybe in a distant future and/or an alternate universe this might happen. In my state our "on peak" is 5-10pm...

Does PW2 support incremental frequency shifting for supply/load management?

That's interesting. I experimented with this last year during some off grid ops. I saw that solar shut off around a PW SOC of 97% when the frequency raised to around 62Hz. It seemed to cycle between 96-97%. The inverters would slowly comeback up until around 97% and then production would stop...

16kw system only produces maximum of 11 -12kw (phoenix, AZ)

There's a really good app called lunasolcal. It gives you all the information you'd ever need about the sun and moons altitude, azimuth, right asc and declination. It shows specific information for your latitude and longitude. I attached a couple screen shots of the app.

Solar + Powerwall: Lights have started flickering when off-grid

It's interesting that you're inquiring if anyone else on this forum has run in to this before based on your technical expertise on the subject already. I personally believe that most people, minus the responders in this thread, have a hard time comprehending what you're trying to diagnose.

Solar + Powerwall: Lights have started flickering when off-grid

Question - Tesla inverter super charged heat dissipation design

The SE's are all passively cooled with large vertical vein heat sinks in the rear. The difference in cooling between the two is purely engineering and based on the thermal dissipation of the units. Personally, I think the SE inverters are better engineered for cooling. Less possibility for...

How to turn off the solar panels/electricity to the house?

In the event of a fire for emergency shutdown you'd shut your main breaker and your A/C disconnect. That's how my system is setup. That would isolate power from the grid and shutdown your solar and take your powerwalls offline for the purposes of providing power to your house.
  31. F

How to turn off the solar panels/electricity to the house?

I would hope not, but anythings possible. I'm pretty sure the prongs are far enough apart that you'd have to intentionly stick some sort of conducting object in there to make it arc. I've seen my local utility change my meter out three times and those guys have no issues pulling and replacing...

How to turn off the solar panels/electricity to the house?

If we're talking about only one main power meter for your house, then as soon as the meter is pulled from the socket, the gateway 2 should island your house when the relay in the gateway separates your house from the grid, i.e. the load side of the meter socket. This would happen with in a few...

16kw system only produces maximum of 11 -12kw (phoenix, AZ)

Agreed. The inverter clipping will only give him 13.6kW, but why is he only getting 11.6kW now? Even with a 5% loss of efficiency due to heat, that still doesn't add up to the extra 2kW he's still loosing.
  34. F

16kw system only produces maximum of 11 -12kw (phoenix, AZ)

I definitely agree that heat could be a factor for the OP's panels and that could possibly causing the dip in performance. I'm not sure if it would be that much based on the size of the OP's system. The OP must be running a 7.6kW and 6kW SE inverter to get his initial 13.6kW.
  35. F

16kw system only produces maximum of 11 -12kw (phoenix, AZ)

What's your point? Boasting about the size of your system and it's capabilities has nothing to do with what the OP was asking about.

I can't really speak to what you want to do, but I would consult an electrician about your idea and see what they come back with.

New Battery - Tesla or Enphase?

I stand corrected. You never did say that it cost not much more than $700. My 7500W generac generator I've had a few years now did cost around $950. So I'll bump the total up to $1650. What is your definition of "They were not that much money."? I would think a setup like you have installed...
  41. F

New Battery - Tesla or Enphase?

Well, either way, the way I have it setup now is legal and safe and in the event of an extended power outage, it still allows the PW's to charge from PV during the day while the generator can run my house separately.
  42. F

New Battery - Tesla or Enphase?

@h2ofun Wow, so you have a 22kW generator with 2 ATS installed on two 200 amp subpanels for not much more than $700? That's impressive.
  43. F

New Battery - Tesla or Enphase?

I don't see how I'm misunderstanding the generator connection. What you're saying, minus your last sentence is exactly how I installed the MTS. Did you even read what I wrote before making such a statement? It is true, I did not realize there was an ATS configuration that would activate in the...
  44. F

New Battery - Tesla or Enphase?

Ah okay. I'm sorry. I think I misunderstood you. I'll be honest, I did not realize there was support for direct generator configuration. I would think for sure that the inverters would have to be off as tug of war would occur between the generator and the inverters. I would think that'd you have...
  45. F

New Battery - Tesla or Enphase?

All true but an ATS/generator setup would be significantly more expensive than the manual setup above.
  46. F

New Battery - Tesla or Enphase?

It's no so much that the generator doesn't exist it's that the gateway doesn't perceive there's any load on the house when the MTS is in the generator position. Which brings us to your second point about the generator not being able to charge the powerwalls. Since the gateway doesn't see any...

New Battery - Tesla or Enphase?

I'm not sure if there's something similiar already as a forum topic. This OP did discuss using a generator as an intigrated feature so me posting about it here showing how you can do it with the Tesla system might be appropriate. @jjrandorin Would it be okay to post my setup of a manual transfer...
  49. F

New Battery - Tesla or Enphase?

Same here. I wired a manual transfer switch between my gateway and my backup loads panel. I can run my generac 7500W generator to power my entire backup loads center and allow all the sun to charge my PW's during the day if need be.
