Anybody have experience buying out a solar lease?

Hi, I have a SolarCity (now Tesla) solar lease from 2013 which I need to purchase quickly ahead of selling the house (buyer would rather buy the house clean than inherit the lease, which is fine by me). I'm having a bit of a hard time reaching anybody by phone and emails aren't answered super...

    Long term storage

Yes, I realize it is probably financially smart to just sell the car and buy one of equivalent age/mileage when I get back, but I developed an attachment to my car. It's older, no autopilot, no sensors (not even parking sensors), old plastic nosecone, but I bought it new and it's mine. I tend to...

    Long term storage

So I'm going to store my Model S for at least a year, probably two. I'll leave it in the garage, with a 50% charge rate, plugged in, perhaps with a cover on it. I was also planning on putting it on some of those circular-depression ramps - something like these, but not sure if that is sufficient...

How expensive has maintenance been for people who have let their maintenance plans expire?

So my model S is nearing its 4 year birthday and I'm trying to decide whether or not I should renew my maintenance plan with the 4 year extension. I was wondering if people who have opted not to purchase the plans have generally found the maintenance on their cars to be pretty low, or if they...

    Heater intermittently broken.

This is different from the "cabin seems colder than usual" thing that I've also noticed (I used to be comfortable at 70 or 72; now I have to put it up to 74 or 76 to have the same comfort). Twice in the last few weeks, my car has been unable to blow hot air at all, and it was *cold* (for CA -...

Has anybody gotten their "balloon squeal" noise fixed?

I had the balloon squeal really badly (one or two warbling notes, kind of chintzy sounding and embarrassing, and I noted it each time I brought the car in for regular service. Each time I would go on a short drive with one of the service technicians or foremen, and of course it would not really...

Has anyone else gotten this notification or know what it is about?

FYI i was told by my service advisor that this fix would fix the embarrassing balloon squeal fart noise that some people get, and it did for me. So if your car suffers from that, it's a nice upgrade.

    19" stock tire life?

Hey, my car's in for service right now and they're recommending I get new tires because of the combination of remaining tread depth 4/32-5/32 and the fact that there's a nail in one of the tires. I think I have about 16-17000 miles on the car right now. I do floor it off a red light occasionally...

Front side panel popped away from clips - can I fix that myself?

Thanks. Yes, the screw hole on the panel had torn thanks to that rubber parking stopper thing getting jammed up in the wheel well, forcing the panel to pop off. But you were right - I just loosened that torx bolt a tiny bit, snapped the thing back on (it took quite a lot of force, which is why I...

Front side panel popped away from clips - can I fix that myself?

Due to bad luck/stupidity (flexible rubber parking mat got stuck to my tire due to wet tires and jammed into the wheel well when I went into reverse), a panel popped off the clips on one end. Is this something I can fix myself? There is one screw hole which looks like it's held by a torx head...

Standard vs Low regen and rear tire life?

So, I don't have any experience, but my thoughts are - you're going to slow down when you want to slow down whether you're on standard or low regen - it's just a question of whether that energy goes into the battery or the brake pads. So I wouldn't expect any significant difference.

    No; mine still has it.

HVAC from remote app not at full power?

Well, it IS in range mode, but it's in range mode all the time (AC is too loud if not in range mode imo), so my expectations are already set to a lower cooling speed. Roof was cracked the entire time, but it was significantly cooler outside than even my target temp. Hrm. Weird. I'll have to...

HVAC from remote app not at full power?

Hey, can anybody confirm that if you turn the AC on from the phone app that it doesn't go at the normal full power? My car's interior was 106 and I turned the AC on to 75 (and cracked the roof) as I have some heat sensitive stuff in there. It's cooling down in there, but really slowly it seems...

Teacher w/o $7500 tax liability - any ideas?

I can't remember the fine details, but you get the $2500 right away, but I think if you sell it within 3 years you have to give it back, or something like that.

    Charge port pops open

Thanks for the response... but too late :) I needed it fixed by this morning, so I left the remaining spongy adhesive disk thing that was partly stuck to the disk and partly stuck to the plastic port on there, JB Welded liberally, and clamped overnight. No way to know how well it's on there...

    Charge port pops open

My magnet just came unglued like it has happened for a few others in this thread. I don't have "outdoor silicon sealant", which worked for Kalud. Was just wondering if I should try JB Weld or Epoxy or superglue or any number of other sticky things I have lying around the house... I'm only...

Drafting big rigs saves a minimum of 10 percent range

So, drafting big rigs scares me, but I noticed that if I follow just other normal cars (SUVs, sedans, whatever) at what would be probably considered close but not tailgating (hard to estimate the actual space, but I'd say 20-30% of other cars on the road are about at this spacing), I get a...

    Doors quality

I had the "chrome triangle point on the back sticking out" issue on both sides of mine and they fixed it with no problem at the service center. I also had the chrome mismatch on the front passenger door (combined with the problem that I think is known to happen from time to time) where the front...

Another Tesla Crash. This time into the delivery sign.

I totally agree. On Jalopnik they are saying she thought she put it in reverse but was actually in drive, got flustered and mashed the accelerator. I know it sounds stupid, but I totally can relate. Like, when you've got your mental mapping of "push this pedal to go faster in this direction...

Systems powering up - press brake when this message disappears ?

So, normally when I get in the car, that message (or something very much like it) shows up for like 1/2 a second and then disappears, and then I push the brake and the car is "on" and ready to drive. This morning, the message showed up and didn't go away. This is after I woke it up, drove about...

    Reversing into a parking spot

There's something about the curvature of the hood as it rolls over to the left front panel and the front that throws me for a loop. I don't know what the problem is, but unless I really pay attention, even if I pull in *forwards* into a parking spot, I'm aimed a little diagonal. It's a little...

Poll: Would you have bought a front-wheel drive MS?

Can somebody explain to me, as not a car guy, the driving dynamics difference between RWD and FWD? My first car was a FWD Honda Civic. My second car was an AWD Subaru. My third car is the Model S. I have no idea which of the many differences between these 3 cars were due to which wheels were...

Range vs. air temperature according to AAA

Huh, range mode does that? I wonder if I'm doing any long term damage to my battery by leaving it in range mode all the time (by not letting it control the temp of the battery as tightly as it wants)... I was under the impression that all range mode did was limit the climate control, and I've...

Forcibly going to PARK when I take weight off the driver's seat.

Forcibly going to PARK when I take weight off the driver's seat.

I don't think I have a seatbelt sensor bug (it doesn't constantly ding ding ding at me). Doors are definitely closed! Not a hill-assist bug - garage is flat and it happens after I am moving and it goes into Park unlike hill assist which just brakes. Brass Guy might be on to something - I'll...

    Bay Area insurance recommendations

I'm in the Bay Area as well. Amica ended up being the cheapest for me, about $200 less than your quote. Plus they are really awesome to deal with if you unfortunately have to deal with them. I got into an accident recently (my fault, and yeah, now my rates are higher), and they were super easy...

Definitely not! All I have to do is put it back in reverse and go on my merry way. The (not very important) mystery deepens!

Forcibly going to PARK when I take weight off the driver's seat.

Weird - you're the 3rd person to suggest this. My seatbelt is always, always, always on. I wonder what is going on with my car.
  33. K

Forcibly going to PARK when I take weight off the driver's seat.

I'm pretty sure the seatbelt is not the key (or maybe my car has a malfunction). I always 100% wear my seatbelt, and I put it on before the car has even woken up from sleep mode, so it's definitely on by the time I'm backing out. They are set correctly for all other circumstances. But my...

Forcibly going to PARK when I take weight off the driver's seat.

I'm curious. When I back out of my garage, I often shift my weight around to get a better look out the sides and back, and maybe 20-25% of the time the car will put itself into PARK automatically and stop the car. But it doesn't seem to do it (thankfully) if I shift my weight around going 75 mph...

AC - Does the S have "Max Air"?

Yes, from what I can tell AUTO is always "outside air", not recirculate. It's annoying, as the air from the highway is almost always gross. I just leave mine on recirculate all the time.

Question for those who had bodywork done

You're in the Bay Area, so I take it you have the choice of Brooks in the east and somebody else in the north bay? I had an accident (low speed, my fault), which messed up the grill(s?), nosecone, bent the hood, the chrome piece around the nosecone, and the... uh body panel under the grill, and...

Quantifying the level of hate for the dealership moodel

My last car was 13 years old and about to die. I needed a new car, and I even had one picked out. I wanted a Honda Element. I went on the website, designed my car, and had the cash to buy it that day. And the thought of going to a dealer and haggling and having extra items added onto the...

Finally found something I hate about my Model S - Seat belt 'creak'

When I took my car in for this last year they fixed it with some cheap-looking, wide, transparent tape. It looks like tape you'd use to tape up cardboard box for shipping. It stopped the creak but it looks pretty crappy. What's this about felt tape inside the b-pillar? Is that hidden from the...

Will the lack of temperature regulation hurt the battery if it's not being driven?

Will the lack of temperature regulation hurt the battery if it's not being driven?

My car is in a shop getting repaired (I hit another car at like 10 mph, which was apparently enough to puncture the radiator - apparently there's a radiator - who knew...), and it's taking them longer to repair it than originally thought. At the end it'll end up being about 2 weeks, and it's...

For those owners unhappy with drop in maximum charged range

Thanks for the link - that makes me feel better. Although I don't really know anything about batteries, and apparently they are super confusing, it does make sense that charging to 60% would not be "bad" for the battery. Probably the best thing for me to do is go back to charging to 60% and stop...

For those owners unhappy with drop in maximum charged range

Just another data point for you all: So, about 3 weeks ago (when I posted this previous message), I had been babying my battery and charging to 60-70% everyday, and noticed that my 90% charge had dropped to 162 miles(!). I did one range charge in an attempt to get it to rebalance the pack (btw...

For those owners unhappy with drop in maximum charged range

I wish I knew if this degradation by charging 60-70% all the time is actually permanently bad for the battery, or is it just a temporary thing that will come back later if I need it to... That is, doing range charges is supposedly bad for the battery pack. If this 60-70% babying is only bad for...

For those owners unhappy with drop in maximum charged range

Well ****, I saw this thread and got paranoid. I've also been babying my car (it's a 60kWh), and have been charging to 60-70% every day (about a 120 mile charge) for the last few months. I noticed that this charge level has dropped (125 down to 115 or something like that), so I did a full...

So just how reliable is the Model S?

Hi. So, I have about 6000 miles on mine (purchased in June 2013), and it's interesting; I have had it worked on by the factory a few times (much more than my last car, which was a cheapo 2000 Subaru Impreza), but I'd say I'm much happier with it in general. All of my issues (except one) have...

Ordered 60kw and having some doubts now.

I would personally keep the loaded 60 over a pared down 85 with your needs. 70 miles is easy; not even a question. Worst case scenario, with heaters and seat warmer on, 80 mph, uphill in both directions, boat sails hanging out the windows, one missing tire, dragging an anchor, 70 miles is easily...
