The $278M deposits included the backlog of the MX (@ $5,000 each). Current deposits for MS and MX are $2,500 for each order. Delivery times are down to roughly a month, so even with a 45% increase in orders the deposits for MS and MS must be way down from $278M.

There are $664M in customer deposits as of Dec 31th. Assuming the backlog for the MX is near zero, we are talking about M3 reservations at what? Nearly 600,000?

Which means Tesla will sell the base model with a battery pack of 60 kWh and handily beat the Chevy Bolt and any other BEV at that price point.

It might take a few weeks, but Tesla stock will recover to the pre-Q3 ER price Level. I sold all my AAPL and i am all in TSLA. The story gets better and better (cash-flow, Investment activities, China, it was all in the EC). I saw this as a massive buying opportunity.

I think thats why the guidance for 2014 is missing - they dont know how fast Panasonic can ramp up their production of cells.

Loaners have to be registered since they are used in public traffic. For show room cars this might be different, but i saw the show car in Munich, Germany, and this car has been registered (it got license plates and so on...). And for the other question: At least in germany the car is delivered...

The data by WardsAuto is certainly a weak part. Rumor has it that WardsAuto get their numbers from Polk and Polk is known to rely on registration data. But thats about it. I would classify the US numbers as an indication. Its a guesstimate and it feels like WardsAuto (or Polk) are a bit more...

Last time i used the VIN-based method. This time its car registrations. I would think this method is a more accurate one but to be honest 6600 deliveries seems pretty bullish to me as well. I think i found the flaw: Show cars and loaners are registered as well but they dont count as deliveries...

I updated my numbers (car registrations for Q 3 per country). Some explanations: US numbers for august and september are supposedly registration data from Polk (although i am not 100% sure). Sweden and France are missing direct data sources and i think these numbers might be a bit on the low...

As for the US data: July numbers are a autodata estimates but the numbers for august and september seem to be actual registration data. The autoline numbers can be found via the links i included in the excel sheet. The numbers are reported in their video news and they even provide a transcript...
