    Covering the Brake

I found this quote particularly interesting. I agree completely, but I think this ties in with the lack of driver education required in the states (I can't speak for other countries since I've never lived elsewhere). The only hope here is that manufacturers, as part of the customer...

    GM Chevy Volt

I think GM would indeed want to carry the BEV label. But they only have a 40-mile BEV, which is nothing compared to the competish. My opinion is they tried to minimize risk and benefit from consumer range anxiety by avoiding serious engineering decisions and making what they could easily do -...

    GM Chevy Volt

Just watched the vid & read the article. It's funny how GM wants to avoid the terms "plug-in hybrid" and "hybrid" - even though they describe the Volt so well. I don't want to hate on Chevy, but come on. They should embrace the decision they made.

All Revved Up, but So Far to Go

Sure, Elon has many questionable traits. I can think of crazier people who have put more on the line to accomplish great things. He's willing to apply his fortune, and that's okay with me. I see my Model S reservation as a risk because of the company's unpredictability, but it's also a vote...

Why Tesla Is a Great Brand: Like Apple, It Changed Perception

That's the key. I had an unexpected, lucky ride in a Roadster once, and within 2 months I reserved a Model S (P691). Take them for a ride, and all but the hardest-nosed nay-sayers will drool.

Charge your roadster with the cover on?

Hi, I was curious - does anyone store their roadster outdoors? In general, I'm curious about some of the charging challenges, if any, you find without a garage. More specifically, I've been wondering if anyone charges their Roadster while under a car soft cover. Does the heat generated...

    Robert Llewellyn's Fully Charged

Absolutely it does - that ICE cars have quieted down so much recently, all you can make out are the tires rubbing the asphalt. The whole electric-cars-are-too-quiet paranoia is so ignorant, in my opinion.

    MonoTracer

The portion of the video where the woman is driving, it doesn't look like she's counter-steering to initiate turns. Is it just me? Couldn't turn much up on internet searches, but I'll have to keep looking. Plus, that is a *long* wheelbase. Otherwise, wicked-cool idea!

    another regen/brake light discussion

Maybe in a car, but not on a motorcycle. Rapid deceleration without brake lights exits on US roads today. And I'd argue, particularly on a two wheeler, that it's on the scale of the Roadster. I've thought probably too much about this (put most of it into this blog post), but it appears I...

    "Dippin in My Tesla"

I'm just digging the "Hey!...Hey!" background guys :) I mean come on, they're driving their electric, cleaning up the sky. Whether it qualifies for music or not, it made me smile.

    Tesla IPO

What exactly is the discussion TDave and user497? Were Roadster owners given an early buy-in option or something?
  15. walk_n_wind

    another regen/brake light discussion

There should be a negative acceleration that qualifies as significant deceleration, and the accelerometer that measures it should turn the brake light on/off. Add that and keep the fact that the brake pedal actuates the brake lights, and we've got a system I'd be happy to use. Of course...

    another regen/brake light discussion

Has anyone had a dialog with Tesla about this...functionality? Just curious what their explanation was. I don't want to belittle the amount of thought Tesla put into this, but they've basically decided they can redefine what a brake light means. Anyone who drives a high-revving engine with...

    Another Model S feature wishlist

I'd be very happy if they did away with the 21's for the base model. jkirkebo called it - tire replacement would be miserable on those.
  19. walk_n_wind

    Another Model S feature wishlist

I dig it - all but the shocks part, anyway :) Solid all the time! But a "sport" mode for the regen would be a welcome user control. I figure if I want to coast, that's what cruise control is for. Otherwise, I expect to always regulate the throttle. But that's my preference more than...
  20. walk_n_wind

    Another Model S feature wishlist

It more than "feels right," it makes it possible to be smooth. It's much harder to drive well when you have to operate 2 pedals for *any* deceleration. And heavy or not, I aims to carve the twisties in this monster! I'd like to think it also allows EV drivers to recharge more. I'm sure...

    Another Model S feature wishlist

Adjustable "engine-breaking" Being used to motorcycles and cars with manual transmissions, I hope the Model S exhibits the same deceleration aggression that the Roadster does. However, because Tesla's appealing to mass-market customers with the S, my hopes for aggressive deceleration are...

2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill

Everyone has a different way of expressing their disgust w/respect to something like this. Satire is one of them, I figure. This is a particularly painful one to watch - regardless of your degree of love (tolerance?) for oil. It's wreaking havoc on the environment, and we wake up everyday...

    2002 Toyota RAV4 EV - All Electric, Eco-Friendly, Zero Emission SUV - $29,500.00

Salvage title, I assume Salvage typically means that there was an accident of some kind, the owner reported it to the insurance company, and the insurance company deemed the repair costs to outweigh the value of the machine. In my experience, insurance companies almost always grossly...

    Power steering?

Funny this thread came up... ...because I asked Tesla back in May of 2009. Of course, a lot can change in that time, but this was their response: My guess is that the S wheels would be nearly impossible to turn @ a stand-still w/out power steering. The contact patch must be gigantic...

Is this really a positive image?

I don't feel the author's comments reflect on Tesla or the Roadster at all. They're not the 1st to leave behind conventional automobile noise (the Prius comes to mind). As for the fact that the author enjoyed his actions? I pretty much lost all respect I may have ever had for him. It's one...

How much to spend on a car

I think it's hard to apply a rule of thumb with respect to the amount of money one "should" spend on a car. I can think of so many reasons someone would select a car: -performance -status symbol -transportation -environmentally friendliness If you go the purely-functional route - 100%...

    Roadster Side Repeaters

It's also much more useful if someone *behind* the side mirror can see the turn signal, whereas your solution only allows people in front of the side mirror to see the signal. When I'm on 2 wheels, I am *so* appreciative of cars that have side-mounted turn signals or those side view mirrors...

    As You Drive Battery Charger

    Better to Lease?

Suspension I'm usually most interested in suspension modifications. It looks like the Roadster comes with coil-overs right off the assembly line, but I wonder if we'll find more common (and cheaper) struts in the S. And then there's the power steering (not sure I'll want to leave it in...

    Will Tesla accept Trade-Ins?

Little to gain financially, but it sure would be good from a consumer point-of-view - some customers like to trade-in just because they don't have to deal with their old car anymore (even if the trade-in doesn't reduce the price of the new car). Because the Model S will bring more...
