    Screen Changes with New Update

Serious question: what purpose do the regen bars/dots serve while driving? Granted I’ve only had my car a few months, but I didn’t realize they were there until I read about them in this thread. Then I glanced over at them while driving somewhere last week, thought, “huh, I wonder what they...

How to subscribe for Premium Connectivity 1 Year Trial?

Unfortunately Spotify doesn’t work in the car if you only have a Spotify free account; you have to have Spotify Premium.

Anyone thinking of switching to a refresh Model X?

Agreed. I worked for BMW until recently, and have driven every model made in the last few years except the X7 and the 7 series (we didn’t have any of those in the office fleet). The Model Y feels like a base model first-gen (F26) X4, in terms of interior materials, seat quality, and suspension...

I see so many model Y owners having issues. Would you buy again?

Very few people think to themselves, “this product or service I just paid for is so satisfactory that I’m going to go online and tell the world about just how satisfied I am.” So of course the only voices you hear are unhappy ones, and it makes it appear that said product or service is terrible...

MY Old Console VS New Console

That’s a good point, RPM’s wrap may not dip down around the cup holder edges, but a lot of other ones do; heating the vinyl with a hair dryer makes it dip down and shape itself around the cup holder really nicely.

MY Old Console VS New Console

This installation video is for RPM Tesla’s faux wood wrap, but the technique applies to any wrap: Model 3 & Y Vinyl Wood Console Wrap Gen 2 ($69 w/ 20% OFF) It’s really easy, dare I say satisfying even.

Center console insert with Jeda hub

All of these are compatible with the Jeda hub: Model 3 & Y Center Console Tray 1/2 Size- Felt Lined - From $20 - feels/looks the nicest of the fuzzy options, but costs the most and takes longer to ship https://www.amazon.com/BASENOR-Flocked-Organizer-Accessoies-Sunglass/dp/B083DDCMRW/ - the...

MY Old Console VS New Console

Anyone know if there are any USB hub options for the new console? A friend of mine is about to order a Y, and I have a spare hub I could give him, but I’m guessing it won’t fit.

Is Tesla sending a message to the US Model Y customer

Everyone who bought a Model Y clearly thought it was worth the cost at the time. It’s totally natural & understandable to feel jealous of people who bought it later and got additional features (I’m jealous of people getting heated steering wheels now), but it doesn’t suddenly mean I was ripped...

Dear Elon: just remove navigation from your cars

Oh man, yes, my BMW nav used to do that all the time. It would often suggest exiting the freeway and immediately getting right back on the freeway, or exiting a fast-moving, traffic-free freeway, driving along side it on a service road, and getting back on the freeway two exits later.

Tesla Offer Model 3/Y Frunk Group Buy

Dear Elon: just remove navigation from your cars

Over the weekend I looked an address up on Google Maps on my iPhone, tapped the Share icon, chose the Tesla app from the Share menu, and just like that, the nav was ready to roll when I got in the car. It was a flawless user experience.

Alert for leaving phone (key) in car

My 2020 BMW X3 had a wireless charging pad in a similar place as the Model Y’s, and if I turned off the ignition and opened the driver's door while my phone was still on the pad, the car would chime incessantly and display a message on the instrument cluster saying something along the lines of...

Third Row vs. Spare Tire: RANT!!!!

Can’t argue with that last part. The first BMW I got with run-flats just felt weird, especially while cornering. People on BMW forums kept talking about how switching to regular tires was a revelation, but I got used to the run-flats over the years and stopped noticing. But then driving the MY...

Third Row vs. Spare Tire: RANT!!!!

That’s kind of a weird list, because many of those cars (definitely all of the BMWs) came standard with run-flats in 2017. Although they’ve been kicking around the idea of moving back to regular tires and just including a slime/compressor kit.

    Wire size for wall charger

Fair point. Here in Chicago we're not allowed to use Romex, so my brain defaulted to THHN in conduit.

New USB/microSD Adapter shows up as multiple devices

The Anker card reader says this multiple times: "Simultaneously read and write on two cards". I wonder if it's got some kind of built-in hardware partition going on that's making it show up as two devices? I have a SanDisk High Endurance microSD card (though I'm sure your Samsung Endurance card...

    Wire size for wall charger

This is the way. The cost difference between 8AWG and 6AWG isn't very big, and if you do decide to upgrade to 48A charging down the road, you won't have to throw out a bunch of expensive copper wires because they're now too thin, and the upgrade will be as easy as swapping out the 40A breaker...

    Fixed an Annoying Rattle

I’ve got a non-standard double-garage-door situation - an outer commercial-style garage door that opens by remote but closes on a timer, and 50 feet later, a regular residential-style garage door. I figure I’d play around with auto-open on them, but could see myself just opening/closing them...

What will you name your Model Y?

Fortunately the lack of internal combustion engine means your Model Y will never be the one who knocks.

    Fixed an Annoying Rattle

If you press down on the plastic vent cover (the big piece between the frunk well and the windshield), does it move at all? I’m wondering if you’ve got a broken or missing clip on that thing, or best case scenario, one of the clips just isn’t engaged and just needs to be snapped into place, and...

    Fixed an Annoying Rattle

When I first picked up my LR AWD a month ago, the drive home was absolutely, blissfully quiet. Just the sound of the tires on the road and the wind blowing outside. It was awesome. The next day, however, I noticed a rattle every time I went over a bump or rough pavement. It was pretty faint -...

Available in Tesla Shop: OEM Model Y PPF

They look small in the pic in the Tesla shop, but they’re actually decent. Around a foot tall and a foot wide at the base. I just installed mine this evening, they cover a pretty sizable area. I’d post pics, but my car is embarrassingly dirty right now.

Available in Tesla Shop: OEM Model Y PPF

Mine weren’t taped either. I considered myself lucky that the caps fit snug enough that they didn’t fall out in transit. The creases in yours are a bummer. Hopefully a hot hair dryer will make them disappear.

Available in Tesla Shop: OEM Model Y PPF

My PPF was delivered today - the pieces are bigger than I was expecting, the film is decently thick, and it comes with a solid squeegee. I initially felt like a sucker for ordering it, but it actually looks like it’s worth $50.

    Screen Changes with New Update

I stand corrected - this morning I tried tapping the swipe bar at the top of the maximized music screen, and it instantly shrank down to single-row view. So I’m happy with that.

    Screen Changes with New Update

If I have the radio screen maximized, is there a quick way to send it back down to the single-row view along the bottom of the map with one tap? Or is swiping it down from full view to medium-sized view and again from medium-sized view to single-row view the only way? If there was some little...

    Windshield replacement $1300+? Seriously?

That’s some crazy expensive camera calibration! My local BMW dealer “only” charges $700 for a reflective (for HUD) windshield replacement.

    Jeda Hub for Model Y

Was pretty surprised to see the mailman dropped the Jeda hub on my porch today. The packaging is definitely slick, and the hub itself looks very solidly built. I kinda wish the magnetic door had the same smooth/velvety finish as the rest of the hub instead of the shiny, pebbled texture, but it's...

    Fix for rear apron scratches

Would you have to apply it to the entire panel so the one spot doesn't look extra dark & blotchy, or does it do a pretty good job of blending with surrounding areas?
  33. C

    Fix for rear apron scratches

Oh, man, I didn't even realize that was the lower bumper trim down by the hitch cover. From the pic, I thought it was something painted MSM. Yeah, not a lot you can do about scratches there, unfortunately.

    Diminished value claim?

Got it up front. I don’t know what State Farm did behind the scenes, but one of the many people who called me that day after I initially called them told me they’d reserved a midsize SUV for me from the Hertz location closest to me.
  35. C

    Diminished value claim?

When an uninsured driver t-boned my X3, State Farm (my insurer) got me a crappy compact car for a month, and then left me carless for a month because my rental coverage ran out before the repair was complete. When a well-insured driver t-boned that same X3 a year later, State Farm got the...

    Netflix and YouTube

They take a solid 2-3 minutes to load for me, but they do eventually work. My kids and I were successfully able to watch YouTube TV last week while waiting for my wife to pick up a takeout order.
  37. C

    Fix for rear apron scratches

Those look pretty light. Just get some clearcoat scratch filler (Consumer Reports says all the big-name ones are about the same) and give it a go; despite what the "As Seen On TV" commercials might promise, the scratch filler won't magically make the scratches disappear, but it'll hopefully take...

MYP - Picked up a screw

Take it to a tire shop to have it properly plugged and patched from the inside and you’ll never have to worry about it again. If a chain tire shop gives you a hard time because they want to sell you new tires, take it to a mom & pop shop. The local shop a few miles from my house would do it in...

What have you done with your Tesla today?

It’s this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0832Y7GG1/ Unfortunately out of stock now, but worth keeping an eye on, since it’s so much cheaper than the ones the Tesla accessories sites sell ($15 for two sets vs. $60-70 for one set).
  40. C

    Diminished value claim?

That’s pretty bad, but it’s definitely not totaled. My 2017 BMW X3 was rear-ended by an idiot who was texting while driving - the damage looked very similar to yours, and the repair ended up costing around $17k. Had to have the tailgate, bumper, both quarter panels, and quite a bit of the...

What have you done with your Tesla today?

My center console was starting to get scratches, so I wrapped it. Pretty happy with how it came out. Now I’m trying to figure out if there’s any way to adjust that center lid to make it sit flush with the cup holder section; the SC said there isn’t, but that doesn’t make sense to me (unless it...

    Center Console Wood Wrap

Sweet! I’d love to hear your thoughts and see pics after you get your hands on them.
  43. C

    Center Console Wood Wrap

I came across those too. They look really nice, $120 cheaper than the similar wood veneer shells on RPM Tesla, and the Hills website as an air of respectability around it, for whatever that’s worth. My big concern is that, as you can see in my pics above, my console isn’t exactly flush and...

Navigate on Autopilot - Odd Behavior

Whoa, we’re kicking around the idea of doing this same road trip! How was it?

    Center Console Wood Wrap

The key card still works great. While it’s thick for a wrap, it’s still much thinner than any shell, so no hindrance to the RFID signal.

    Center Console Wood Wrap

I got a handful of tiny scratches on my center console on day 2 of owning the car, from wiping it with a brand new microfiber towel, of all things. This got me worried about how bad it would look after some real abuse, so I decided to wrap it. I found this post in a M3 thread here, and figured...

    Jeda Hub for Model Y

I got an email from them with UPS tracking number too - they haven’t shipped yet, but they’ve printed the label - but I only ordered on 12/4 so I’m considering myself lucky. That said, my RPM hub is in so snugly, and was such a struggle to get plugged in, that I’m not really interested in...

What have you done with your Tesla today?

Which one, the vinyl logo fillers on your wheels, or the camera bump trim? LOVE the former - such a small detail, but looks so slick and pulls the wheels and the paint together. Not a huge fan of the latter - very angular and bold, when the car's design is curvy and understated.

Gen 3 Charger Web Interface Issue

This is what I saw when I first configured my wall connector in early November and tried to access its IP address while connected to my regular wifi network. Only after I connected to its SSID was I able to access its configuration page.
