EV fire case study model 3

Thanks for sharing that, good information. Many ICE cars have their fuel tank where the truck drive shaft ended up in the Model 3 case.

    FastEV EVO1(+) 18" with Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 6 for Model 3 Performance

First update: A total of 440km driven since changing the wheels and tyres, 290km of dry highway driving from Brisbane to Maleny, Montville, Sippy Downs and back to Brisbane and 150km of suburban driving around Brisbane, mainly wet weather. Efficiency is currently averaging 132Wh/km for a 6%...

    FastEV EVO1(+) 18" with Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 6 for Model 3 Performance

Thanks. I think 10% - 15% is realistic. There's some good science to support it on the Engineering Explained channel here I'll report back every now and again with updates :)

    FastEV EVO1(+) 18" with Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 6 for Model 3 Performance

I've just changed from the stock 20" Uberturbine/Pirelli PZ4 wheel and tyre combo to FastEV EVO1(+) 18" in black finish with aero inserts and Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 6 235/45/R18. I was looking for a more cost-effective tyre than the 20" options and also looking for improved comfort and...

Tesla 3 Windshield pits/stone chips? Is it softer glass than other cars?

My Model 3 has the windscreen rock magnet upgrade, on my 2nd windscreen and it seems like every trip on the highway rocks hit the windscreen out of nowhere. They do have a very large windscreen and low nose which increases the probability of impacts.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

My narrative is a correct assessment of how the car responded in the situation. I'm sure it would have avoided a collision, but it was clumsy at best. I'll just wait for those of you who are more trusting to do the development until it's a smoother experience :)

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

It was a suburban road, 60 km/h, well marked with the left line marking moving towards the center to provide for car parking etc. The car detected the left line marking and made an initial right turn moving the car further towards the middle of the road which was OK, bu then it did a second...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

I tried the Enhanced AutoPilot Christmas trial for about 500m and it threatened to steer us into oncoming traffic with a very jerky steering maneuver. Terrifying. Deactivated it, trial complete.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

The car updated to 2021.36.5.5 the other day and went for a 4 hour drive yesterday, a mix of city, rural highway and freeway. Phantom breaking is at least as bad as it always has been, possibly worse. The only scenario I think I can safely use cruise control is multi-lane freeway.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Tried out the car wash mode in 2021.24.4 yesterday and it was very good. It's one of those improvements that you don't know you need until you get it :)

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

I agree. Also, most performance based ICE cars significantly reduce power at low fuel reserve (10%-12% fuel level) to protect the fuel system and engine e.g. BMW cars with B58 turbo 3.0L on the lower fuel reserve value go to a low fuel/limp type map with very low power. I've done testing in...

Performance Model 3 Drag Race - 2021 vs 2018 - Is it Faster?

I didn't complete any full 100-150 km/h or 1/8th mile, however, I did roll through one 1/8th mile at 22% SOC in 7.75s, 1.82s 60ft. 330ft was 4.93s. Jumped off the pedal after about 6s and it was still pulling well. If I stayed on it I think it would have been about 7.5@150 km/h (93mph)...

Performance Model 3 Drag Race - 2021 vs 2018 - Is it Faster?

I did some lower SOC testing 0-100 km/h today M3P delivered Dec 2020 MY21 spec. It seems that in a warm climate there is no "fall off a cliff" drop in performance as low as 18% SOC. There is a reduction as SOC lowers, but still very, very quick acceleration. At 20% - 30% SOC 0-100 km/h...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

My son got delivery today of a Chinese manufactured M3 SR+ in Brisbane. Quick look around the car tonight and it looks like much improved paint and panel finish compared to my December 2020 delivered 2021 spec M3P from USA. All panel gaps look very even and the frunk is perfectly flush all...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

My car updated to 2021.4.6 on Saturday 20th Feb, it's a 2021 non-FSD M3P Initial observations: Phantom braking appears to be reduced, still had a few unexplained slow downs on a 300km drive yesterday. Slow downs/braking typically occurred on country highway, going up incline, especially if...

Can anyone recommend a good tyre inflator?

I got the same one and it works well, the LED light is handy, as is the flashing warning lamp function. I've found it inflates to 1-2 PSI over the target, which is OK, just adjust with an accurate gauge after disconnect. I also keep a tyre repair plug kit in my frunk kit for nail/screw...

If you could change one thing about the Model 3...

Being able to configure non-active cruise control is one thing I'd change. Active cruise control on anything other than divided highways/freeways is dangerous. On every drive with active cruise on the car brakes hard for perceived threats that are non-issues. Particularly concerning with...

Model 3 Tires, Tire Sizes, Types, make / model recommendations, tire discussions, etc

When my stock 235/35/20 Pirelli's are done I'm considering Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S 255/30/20 front and back. Diameter stock is 26.5" and the Michelin's would be 26.0" If I was to look at 18" wheels I'd consider Michelin Pilot Super Sport in 255/40/18 with the same 26.0" diameter. I have the...

Only very slight squeak when pressing on the center section of the seat on my 2021 Model 3 Performance, white seats. Maybe where the sensor is for the seat belt alert? I haven't ever heard it when just sitting though.

All tests at about 80% SOC and ambient 28 - 32 C (82 - 89 F) 0 - 100 is very consistently 3.27s - 3.3s with 1ft rollout 1/8 mile 7.39@95mph (1.83s 60ft) and [email protected] (1.87s 60ft) 1/4...

Performance Model 3 Drag Race - 2021 vs 2018 - Is it Faster?

OP thanks for the thread and I appreciate the detailed analysis and video. I have a 2021 M3P here in Australia and have only done one Dragy data run so far, recording 0 - 100 km/h in 3.48s (3.27s with 1ft rollout) and 100 - 150 km/h in 3.57s. This was with 80% SOC and ambient temperature of 28...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Did some Dragy testing in my new MY21 M3P today. 0-100 km/h 3.48s and with 1ft roll out 3.27s at 80% SOC, in line with Tesla claims for the car. I've driven 919km so far and averaged 166Wh/km in mixed driving, including mountains, highway and city. A bit of spirited driving included :) The...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Just had the update installed this afternoon and I think it all looks pretty good. I like the addition of solitaire, my favorite game so far. I went for a drive via Samford Village, Mt Mee, Maleny and Coolum Beach yesterday and the car was a pleasure to drive. The addition of Ludicrous mode...
