    Understanding 85kWh battery limits

Did they check the HV fuse box yet? Maybe I missed it where you posted what they checked.

Groan when making 90 degree slow speed turns

hmmm, you are correct. Goes that theory but I still think the noise is coming from the rack.

Out of Warranty Drive Unit Replacement and Cost

My RDU on my 85D is also getting replaced due to a clicking noise internal to the unit with a couple months left on the warranty!

Groan when making 90 degree slow speed turns

I don't have this noise but from what I am hearing it sounds like the power steering pump to me. It's too high frequency to be a low speed wheel rub and it only makes the sound once you approach the last 30% or so of the steering angle available? So maybe as the steering angle increases at low...

    100D vs Long Range

Make sure to actually get a long range and not a 100D. Just drove one for a few days as a loaner and it's no more efficient then my 85D...heck I'd say less efficient due to the added weight. Was getting similar efficiency numbers on my daily routine trips.

    Understanding 85kWh battery limits

They found water intrusion in the hv fuse box for mine. Replaced the box. Maybe that fixes it. I was hoping for one of them new 280 mile range batteries with a couple months left on the warranty but oh well. I guess if the alert comes back there is probably water in the battery if they found it...

    Understanding 85kWh battery limits

Good to know. I will see how much I can push them on my side to get to the bottom of it. My guess is the motor inverter is wearing out or something and cannot sustain the output. At least they gave me severely degraded 100D as a loaner. Only 272 rated miles at 100% compared to my cars 256...

    Understanding 85kWh battery limits

I think I jinxed myself with my earlier reply. My car dropped the DI w166 _hvilOutOfBounds over the weekend. It's at the SC now and they gave me a loaner. Car still charges fine but I am seeing reduced power from my eyeballs. I don't see the power limit lines but even on the warm days we've had...

    Advice on a used Model S 90D

huh, my 85D is fine and I don't baby it. No rattles, no creaks. All trim is fine except for some small bubbling of the alcantara on the inside b-pillers. Honestly, my interior looks like the day I bought it at 28k miles now at 105k miles. And I wiped it down and dressed it maybe 6 times...maybe...

Drive Unit Repair SCAL Independent Shop

I wonder if there is some dielectric coolant that can be used in the older S that can keep these drive units from failing while still providing enough cooling performance for the batteries.

Buyer Be Ware: RPM Tesla Cubby

Looks to be within spec by Tesla standards. All joking aside, I bought the cheap one with no pull handle, just a lip underneath to pull on, from Amazon and have bee happy with it. Ok quality, blends in with the cheap plastic down there, lol.

Update on the 19” TNA Razors and Pirelli P Zero AS+ Elect. Have a little over a thousand miles on them now and still drive the same (AP set at 65mph on highway, sometimes 70). Still flooring it here and there but this set up appears to be abouy 11-12% more efficient then the Vredesteins on the...

Am I being an idiot trying to hold onto my p85dL outside of warranty?

Dunno. My windows must be aligned right cause I get very little wind noise. I shoved some 1/2in foam behind the upper corner of both driver and passenger sides to help it seat better since I noticed a lot of air movement in that area and it seemed to help.

    Model S Wh/m

Been here my whole life. I know how fast people drive on I-95. I put 75k miles on the 85D in 3 years and drove from NC to the Canadian border for an old job on a weekly basis. I drive plenty. I just don’t care how fast others think they need to drive to keep up with random strangers they will...

    Model S Wh/m

Where I’m from(mid atlantic) people can barely drive 65 without running into jersey walls and each other. That’s the main reason it never feels comfortable to me to go any faster as the amount of times you will get cut off means you’re unnecessarily reducing your reaction times to save a few...

    Model S Wh/m

Ya’ll drive too fast. Lol. I got 224 miles on my 85D on 90% charge with 6% left at 65mph. If I had a 100D or a refreshed long range…woowee I’ve done quite a bit of drag racing and autocross in my day but 80mph on the highway never felt comfortable no matter what I was driving.

    Model S Wh/m

This is a segment of a recent trip from NC to VA. Two other passengers plus 50lbs of luggage. Lots of ups and downs average 65mph.

First Road Trip in my 2022 Model S

I always google the supercharger stops the in car route planner wants to stop at and adjust accordingly to my needs. Otherwise you might end up in the middle of no where or an inconvenient location. 75-80mph is a real range killer I see. I can get rated at 70mph in my 85D so I typically won’t...

Cold weather driving sucks up the battery

One of the things I had to learn fast was driving in cold weather when I first bought my 85D. A couple things I do is pump the air pressure up to 50psi (45psi should be good on a M3) to eek out that little extra efficiency that can be used for heating instead of overcoming rolling resistance. I...

Am I being an idiot trying to hold onto my p85dL outside of warranty?

I agree with the others. Keep the car. Get a warranty on the battery from 057 while it is still good. That’s my plan. I’ll pick up a cheap plaid in a couple years when used car prices implode some more. Also, best I have seen on my 85D is 124kw at a supercharger at 6% state of charge. Never...

Alrighty, just got my new wheels and tires on the other day. Went from Vredestein QuatracPros on the original 21” Turbines to Pirelli P Zero Allseason Plus Elects on TheNewAero Razors in 19”. Initial impressions are the P0’s are probably more efficient. I can’t tell for sure until I get back...

Can you get rated range in sub-freezing temps?

I am in that camp also. I firmly believe there was very little in the way of non-aero efficiency improvements on the newer Tesla’s until the latest Plaid variant. Most of the range improvements for the S I believe come from larger usable batteries and tweaks to the aero (front bumper and...

Can you get rated range in sub-freezing temps?

The short answer is no. You can’t. But I got pretty close if you remove heating and battery conditioning. Today as everyone in the country knows is friggin’ cold. I was able to get this result with an average speed of 60mph! HVAC was set up in a special way to maximize range in my opinion...

Are Old Model S Cars Still Good? (NEW VIDEO)

Found the screenshot of the trip meter of it. Comes out to about 290-295 miles of range.

What should my ideal charge percentage be?

Dunno. I am naturally leary of attempting a 100 to 0 attempt. But going off of my trip meter from last charges and the kw usage I am somewhere between 74kw to 77kw of usable energy (guessing accessories are accounting for the discrepancies). My range during the summer is very solid as any trip...

Are Old Model S Cars Still Good? (NEW VIDEO)

Not bad on the range. My best run ever in my 85D was 39% battery used to travel 115 miles in 50 degree weather which works out to almost 295 miles of range. Autopilot set to 65mph, climate set to auto 72 and whatever traffic patterns dictate the average speed. I am fairly certain that until the...

What should my ideal charge percentage be?

Previous poster in this thread said by his math the 18650s should have about 4% calendar aging after 7 years.
  32. E

What should my ideal charge percentage be?

I'm at 256 rated from 270 new. That's 5.2% degradation so if 4% of that is calendar aging, my car only has 1.2% cycle aging? I charge mine to 90% at home and 70-80% if I supercharge.

    Understanding 85kWh battery limits

Definitely something janky going on with your battery. My 85D has 102k miles and none of those issues. Battery drain on 30 degree days is only like 4-5% over 12hrs to keep the battery warmish. My car is a little newer, my warranty runs out in April. I am also on MCU2. I am seeing a little less...

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

yea, Yea, this was a recent trip. Temps in the high 50s so hvac was left on auto at 72. Average around 55mph but some stop and go traffic which slowed me down but 65 to 70mph when not in traffic. My car does not do as well in stop and go traffic. I have standard regen on but I struggle to get...

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

Way above my head my friend. All I know is most of the forces acting on a car like rolling resistance increases linearly with speed and the predominant force that increases at a nonlinear rate is aero drag. There will be some nonlinear force increase in the gearbox from the gears dragging...

    Maryland Tire Shops

Anyone know of a good shop in Maryland that will not scratch my new wheels and are willing to work on Teslas? Preferably a shop with custom/aftermarket wheel experience. Every good local shop I have called won't touch Teslas which is so silly to me as it's just wheels I need done.

Looking to Buy Late 2016 Model S w/ FSD Titanium Metallic Only

It’s not about discouraging you. It’s about helping you make informed choices. The car may indeed exist. But it would still be exceedingly rare. How long are you willing to wait for it to turn up? You could buy an AP2 car and have it repainted Titanium Metallic and enjoy it within a couple...

Looking to Buy Late 2016 Model S w/ FSD Titanium Metallic Only

Just buy an AP2 car and get it wrapped or painted in titanium metallic. I'm sure there is a wrap that is pretty close to that color. Or just spend the 7k+ and get it repainted to that color.

    Evannex Carbon Fiber Center Console

Hello all. I have an Evannex carbon fiber center console for sale. It is in great shape. Evannex really made these sturdy though at the expense of more storage. Pictures attached. Could use a can of air to blow out the dust between the crevices on the storage box cover. Asking $250 +...
