    Ugh. Another Model S fire - 2013-11-06

Sorry a little late to reply, threads grow fast here! I think there's an important distinction here. I 100% agree that an engine in a Panamera, S7, or similar could cost as much or more than a Model S battery, but the question is how likely is it that road a specific scenario would require a...

    Ugh. Another Model S fire - 2013-11-06

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say my insurance company would care. If a $100,000 car is more likely to be burned out and totaled due to road debris (again, NOT saying it is more likely in a Tesla) it will be more expensive to repair/replace than replacing an oil pan on a Ford Focus...

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2013

Its interesting that people are taking advantage of the 8% intraday dip which was preceded by a ~9% gain earlier in the day. Its a dip for sure, but I wouldn't put too much faith in it being a real buying opportunity given the day as a whole is still up ~1%

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2013

I've got a couple Sept30 140 puts that likely will go down the drain, bought when we were at $147 and didn't think we'd see a big jump like this! Of course I also happened to buy them a few hours before Tesla posted their NHTSA press release, bad timing on my part I guess...

His point is just that you can't claim "safest car ever" as its impossible to prove such a blanket statement. They can only test specific scenarios and therefore can only say that the Model S had the best overall ranking in the scenarios they test. Depending on how you interpret 'safest car...

    Newbie Options Trading

Bought a few puts today as well while the stock was at $147. Ended up getting Aug30 140 puts @ 2.88 and Aug30 125 puts @ 0.51. Don't know what to expect from the 125s, they were more of a cheap experiment. If the stock does take the usual Tuesday drop I should be able to sell them for a...

    Advanced TSLA Options Trading

I ended up deciding against a diagonal spread for now, the premiums on Dec13 and Jan14 calls are just too high for me to justify. To really eat away at the premium for the long call I would need to play too close to ATM with the short-term calls and I didn't want that much risk.

    Newbie Options Trading

All options have extrinsic value, which is what decays with time. The difference with in the money options is that they also have intrinsic value based on the current value of the stock. Deeper in the money options will have less extrinsic value. This is related to theta which describes how...

    Advanced TSLA Options Trading

I haven't decided yet, I'm planning to take some time tomorrow to plan it out and decide. The diagonal call spread Serena to fit my current expectations well though, neutral to slow growth in the short term with a bullish long-term outlook. The real writings for me right now are (1)...

    Advanced TSLA Options Trading

I've been looking into doing a diagonal call spread with the long being a Jan14 call in the 160-170 range. My thoughts here are: 1. I expect the next few months of trading to be fairly flat with the potential to climb up to the 150s 2. There is potential for a Q3 earnings bump if it goes...

    Cory Johnson: Perpetual $TSLA Cynic?

How do they maintain trolley cars in San Francisco or light rails in Seattle running down the middle of the street? I'm seriously impressed in those machines that clearly have been running without maintenance since they were build in the middle of the road... Seriously though the idea is to...

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2013

If anyone here is able to tell you why TSLA (or any stock) moved 0.47% in after hours they would be extremely rich. There are plenty of people who literally spend their lives attempting to read & predict trends over weeks/months/years and hope to be right enough to make a living. Asking why a...

    Hyperloop - impact on TSLA?

sorry I should clarify. I absolutely think this could be doable and am really impressed with the level of research and problem solving that went into it. I was talking to my wife about it and the main thing that jumped out st her is that Elon chose to do all this research and make it public...

Lets not forget that he has surrounded himself with brilliant hard-workers as well. Go a step further...on-board super chargers, your Model S would be fully charged after the 30 minute trip (Updated) On topic, I'll be interested to see what this does with the stock tomorrow and what analysts have to say about it. It definitely comes off as a far-fetched idea that would be...

Sold my MDX SUV, getting Model S ... for free?

I would caution against investing all of it in TSLA unless you would also be ok with a $130k Model S. Worst case scenario TSLA goes under due to an unexpected safety recall and you are left with a low production, completely unique vehicle with a safety issue plus worthless stock. With that...

Yes, I believe you would pay capital gains on the sold stock and on the premium from the option you sold. One more clarification, its considered a 'covered' call since the option writer owns the shares he sold an option on. If you don't already own the stock its a 'naked' option, meaning if...

    Nonsense from John Petersen

Do we know at this point that Samsung or Panasonic would be the supplier for the GenIII? It sounds like battery supply is still a big bottleneck, if there's a chance they would switch to a different supplier that investment could go out the window.

I'm interested to see how Monday goes before deciding on Tesla Tuesday. If we get a pop on Monday and get up to 158-160 I will likely sell my options (all Aug 16) and watch Tuesday to see if there's a good chance to get in on a dip.

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2013

Good point, I was comparing apples and oranges by looking at their old target with new prices. They set $90 on 5/16, it closed at $94 on that day so they were pretty close to day-of prices. It is an interesting shift though to go up $50 while downgrading the stock, guess that's just the weird...

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2013

I thought this one was hilarious :) With TSLA climbing so much recently I could see them downgrading while still having to up their target, but $141 doesn't make sense there. They had a $90 price target with the stock at $140, how is a $141 target with the stock at $155 a downgrade? Seems...

I'm fully expecting shorts to start backing out at 160 if we hit it. I personally don't expect 160 until Monday and expect us to go pretty sideways until the weekend now as analysts still try to figure out what the ER means to them. I know if I were short at 120 or even 140 I'd get nervous if...

The real problem that jumped out at me with his view, the real solution isn't to offer vehicles with 9 different powertrain options. Hopefully this isn't a horribly basic question, its been years since I took a few accounting classes. How exactly will service centers, stores, chargers, etc. be handled in their books? It is cash spent but they are left with a depreciating asset, would only a fraction of the cost affect...

"very optimistic" is a nice way of putting :) If a Aug13 200 was around $0.15 I'd buy a few for the hell of it, but it seems crazy to me to go for a 285... Maybe the expectation is that the premiums for the 285 could jump dramatically if the price hits 180 or 200 after ER?
