    Phantom Braking Solved

A little humor for all our frustrations. I think we all need this bumper sticker that I saw today on our Teslas.

Has Basic Autopilot improved (and phantom braking decreased) since radar was removed? (About to buy!)

Good thought about stop and go traffic. I used it several times with radar. Without radar I also experienced hard braking and acceleration. It is better if I turn the max speed down to 15 mph and the distance at 5-7, although that invites lane swappers.

Has Basic Autopilot improved (and phantom braking decreased) since radar was removed? (About to buy!)

I think you are making a point that supports some other observations/theories that with other cars ahead of the Tesla the TACC works better. The software seems to have problems with voids and interprets shadows and other things as obstacles.

    Phantom Braking Solved

The car just has trouble knowing when to use them. 😁

Has Basic Autopilot improved (and phantom braking decreased) since radar was removed? (About to buy!)

I use the posted speed limit to give the TACC a fair test. My first post was on a 50 mph road. The second post is on a road that is 40 mph for the 2 miles that I drive on it. Just today, the car braked from 40 to 27 mph, accelerated to 32 mph and the braked to 25 mph before resuming full speed...

Has Basic Autopilot improved (and phantom braking decreased) since radar was removed? (About to buy!)

Nobody was behind me so I let the car do what it wanted to do. It slowed to 10 mph. I have tried this many times on a shaded two lane 40 mph road leading to my home. Phantom breaking occurs frequently, once or twice, in a two mile stretch of road. Speed decreases have been 10-25 mph. Fewer...

Has Basic Autopilot improved (and phantom braking decreased) since radar was removed? (About to buy!)

my 2020 MS (version:2023.6.8) had radar and vision. On the Interstate highways using Autopilot or Active Cruise Control I do not see any noticeable difference. ACC on two lane roads with shadows from trees is a very different story. Today, driving at 50mph on a 50 mph road I came around a turn...

    Autopilot on long straight highways

As you say it is responding to the torque applied to the wheel but that is resistance to turning. Not to be confused with grip pressure. Maintaining a specific torque resistance can be more tiring than the very loose grip I use while driving on the highway. If the Tesla is now employing eye...

    Show of hands… Adaptive Suspension

2020 LR MS with air suspension. Definite difference in sport vs soft mode, especially noticeable when driving on two lane backroads in terms of handling. i also use the soft mode when traveling through the backroads of Maine in the winter and spring with all the frost heaves. Maybe it is just...

Tesla Vision coming to radar-equipped cars on 2022.24.6

I just took an 1800 mile trip from NJ through NC and back In my 2020 LR MS updated to 2022.24.8. Autopilot worked well, although air felt air had to apply more resistance to the steering wheel to prevent the warning messages. On divided highways I did not have any problems. On two lane 55mph...

    Autopilot on long straight highways

Thanks. I do catch the warnings but maybe not all of them or not in time. I’ll try to be more attentive but I really like to get able to just concentrate on the cars around me when on AP. Just a tweak in procedure. Also appreciate the “holding” positions. I will see which one works most...

    Autopilot on long straight highways

I am on a long trip from Massachusetts to North Carolina with 2022.24.6 in a 2020 LR MS. I have used the AP a lot over the last few years and love it. On part of this trip I am driving on roads with few cars and gentle turns. While I keep my hands on the wheel and eyes forward I keep getting the...

unable to download tidal for offline playback

Do you have Tesla premium connectivity? When Tidal first came to Tesla I had to have it for the car to stay logged in to Tidal.

    Phantom Braking

Just my two cents. I have had very few issues with phantom breaking using Auto Pilot or Adaptive Cruise Control on Interstate Highways in the two years that I have owned my 2020 MS LR Dual Motor. It really makes my 200 mile weekly trip to ski country in Maine more relaxed. The place that I do...

    Tidal, y u no shuffle?

I usually just WiFi tether the car to my iPhone and use the Tesla Tidal app to stream music. This works well. I think the Tesla needs premium connectivity to stay logged in to Tidal. Hopefully the dependence on premium connectivity will be removed in future updates.
  16. S

Ok, I tried Tidal, and…(and “premium” audio too)

I covered some of my findings about Tidal last month. To listen to HiFI you must download the music while connected to WiFi and then when on LTE you can play the downloaded lossless music. You can also tether the Tesla to your hotspot and play HiFI lossless music while driving (About 25 Mb per...

Tidal and in car audio with 2021.40.x

I did turn on the "Maximize Compatibility." It helps but it still takes 30-60 seconds to find my iPhone. + Just saw a message about iOS 15 moved to WAP3 security protocols, which encrypt your password, and the Tesla is still using WAP2. Tesla needs to update their security protocols.

Tidal and in car audio with 2021.40.x

I think if you want to take full adavantage of the Tesla Tidal app you need WiFi connected to your phone. Tidal streams lossless and uses 0.4-0.5 Gb per hour. I think bo3bdar is correct and Tidal is streaming at 96 kbps when using Premium Connectivity. I have asked Tidal about the streaming on...

Tidal and in car audio with 2021.40.x

Thanks. I wonder what bitrate Premium Connectivity is streaming at. Tidal HiFi is their lossless streaming tier. Streaming lossless music from Tidal is about 450 Mb per hour. The Tesla Spotify app is reportedly streaming at only 96 kbps or 42 Mb per hour. I don’t know, but can’t imagine that...

Tidal and in car audio with 2021.40.x

You can play HiFi from Tidal in the Tesla if your car is tethered to WiFi (such as a phone hotspot.) I do not have the Premium Connectivity from Tesla and found that I have to keep the Tesla tethered to my phone's hotspot even to play Tidal music files that are downloaded to the Tesla. I played...

    Tidal, y u no shuffle?

I asked Tidal directly about the Tesla Tidal app and it will not unfold MQA (Masters) files. Still cannot get a definitive answer from Tidal about the music quality when Tesla tries to download and/or play an MQA file. I have some of them in my playlists but haven't explored any further.

    Tidal, y u no shuffle?

Did a little test tonight. With the car tethered to my phone hotspot I played music for 20 minutes using a Tidal HiFi account (not plus) with just selecting play in the Tesla Tidal app. It used ca. 170 Mb of data, about right for flac lossless files. I then downloaded the same playist and then...

    Tidal, y u no shuffle?

I agree that he doesn't have time but I assume he sets the benchmark. He does personally reply to tweets so he is aware of the problems. I like your idea for a Tesla app store.

    Tidal, y u no shuffle?

One other question that arises with using Tidal. The MQA Masters need to be "unfolded" to be anything better than lossy 13 bit digital music unlike lossless 16 bit flac files. Does anyone know if the Tidal Tesla app is doing the unfolding like the Tidal desktop apps or Roon?
  25. S

    Tidal, y u no shuffle?

Glad you have ticketed this to Tesla. This version of the Tidal app is lame to say the least. Tesla engineers really don’t anticipate real world usage of their apps. i can only think Elon is ton deaf and has no concept of high quality music streaming. It is all AM radio to him.
  26. S

    Tidal, y u no shuffle?

Yes the downloaded files all had a hifi icon. Yes, all the songs in the playlist did download on my home wifi. I don’t have premium connectivity but I did have to tether the car WiFi to my phone hotspot to be able to play the downloaded music. I have not had a chance to look at data usage on my...

    Tidal, y u no shuffle?

I am somewhat confused about many of the comments in this discussion about streaming music and the quality of the music. It is my understanding that to use the Tidal app in the 2021.40.6 you have to tether your car to wifi and then you can download the music from Tidal. I did this connected to...

Regen and Braking on Snow/Ice/Slick Roads

I do know the difference between the two systems. My battery was fully preheated so I had maximum regeneration. While others think the regenerative braking is similar to ABS, all four wheels locking up and being unable to steer contradicts that opinion. I cannot find anything concrete that...

Regen and Braking on Snow/Ice/Slick Roads

No, modern cars do not slam on the ABS. I also have and an Audi and bmw 4WD that do not skid when I transfer my foot from the accelerator to the brakes. Swearing does nothing to help your point.

Regen and Braking on Snow/Ice/Slick Roads

Thanks. Mine has no option to reduce regen. That was an option earlier but no longer seems to exist.

Regen and Braking on Snow/Ice/Slick Roads

Just asking, how do you know it is anti skid? I had all four wheels lock up on a slick road surface. What year and model have you driven in icy roads? Thanks for the info.

Regen and Braking on Snow/Ice/Slick Roads

I drove my 2020 Model S in light snow this weekend. Twice while trying to move my foot from the accelerator pedal to the brake pedal at around 35 mph my car started to slide off the road and was not responsive to steering. All four wheels were in a skid. Anyone that has driven in snowy...

Software update 2020.48.26.x update, font size problems

I agree that the font size and icon size are too small. I cannot read the remaining mileage, speed limit, or set speed in cruise control without wearing reading glasses. It is dangerous to have to hunt for glasses to read important information on the dash. I did not have this problem before...
