    Long drives

My kids are both in cities 400 miles away. Am I deluding myself that a Tesla could make the drive a lot easier? I took one for a test drive and frankly it scared me on the highway. Just wondering if that was just my lack of experience with it or is it truly not so great?

Tesla Solar vs ....[third party competitors]

I got first quote from Tesla. I found their customer service shockingly bad and I bailed. But I used the quote to bargain with a local solar company and got the same equipment and at essentially the same price. In hindsight I am glad I didn’t use Tesla. There were several issues with my install...

Does Everyone have to wait a long time for Tesla Energy to Resolve an issue?

Tesla aren’t even particularly cheap anymore with the mandatory battery which I have no need for. Good service is essential and Tesla just don’t have it. I went with a local company. Marginally more expensive but excellent service. Tesla big national competition is also terrible in my opinion.

7.1KW solar roof system + 2 Powerwalls in upstate NY -- do my generation stats look right?

I am also in the Hudson valley in Westchester. I have an 18.36kw system. I would say that in a really good day I get between 120-130kw. Yesterday I got 120kw. I’m facing mostly sw with no shading. Last 2 months I’ve got 2.6MW each month. Using Hanwha 340w panels and micro inverters

About to pull the trigger on Tesla Solar panels

I really like Tesla Solar but I would never ever use them. Let me explain. I used the app to get a quote which was better than any other quote I received. And I used that quote to negotiate with a local solar company. To me it is really important to have good customer support on such a complex...

Solar Output - what does yours put out?

18.36kw system in New York, Westchester. Good production on a June day would be 130kwh. On a cloudy day 35-60 or so. 54 panels all SW facing

    Electricity production over time.

I had my system installed last month. According to pvwatts it was supposed to.profuce 2500kw for the month of June. Instead I am getting closer to 2900kw. Can I assume that pvwatts is 20% low all year or too soon.

About to pull the trigger on Tesla Solar panels

I almost went with Tesla for my 18.36kw system. Very glad I didn't although it cost me about 15% more. Customer service is essential for this type of project and Tesla has terrible customer service unfortunately.

    First month with Solar panels

I'm on the Hudson river in Westchester. Zero shading ever. If Coned rates were 3 times higher it would be ridiculous. My monthly average bill was already $360 with an annual usage of about 18,000 kw

    First month with Solar panels

I've only had it part of May and part of June. Maybe 32 days
  11. C

    First month with Solar panels

Not as bad as California. But at .19 kw at the higher end for sure.
  12. C

    First month with Solar panels

Yes I have been very happy with it. And also surprised at how accurate the pvwatts calculator has been. It was maybe 5- 10% lower then my actual production. If this continues I'll have a 4 year payoff which I consider reasonable

    First month with Solar panels

This is what I produced with an 18.36kw system after a month in New York with my 54 340w panels. 3 panels are doa and will be repaired this week. My plan is to save up excess electricity and use it to power my heat pumps in the winter. I don't know how feasible that will be.

    Sunrun vs Tesla

I went with a big local company. Cost a few grand extra, maybe 5. But when you call you get someone. I had numerous issues that weren't the fault of anyone. I can't imagine the disaster Tesla would have been with their abysmal customer service. Sunrun were ridiculously expensive and also have...

I personally wouldn't use either. Find a good local company

    18.36kw system. First day

I'm just north of NYC. First day with my 18.36kw system and got a total production of about 120kw. Is that about right for a sunny day?

Tesla Energy has the worst Customer Service. Regret getting Tesla

The sad thing is that Tesla is a highly innovative company. Awful customer service ruins it. My perception before doing solar panels was that Tesla was an incredible company. Not so much anymore. Charge a few grand more and pick up the phone.

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

Looks like Elon wasnt being accurate when he said panels will only be sold with powerwalls last week What a crazy way to run a huge company.

Installed larger system from another company since Tesla wouldn't change design

I think we actually agree. I am glad they are around just because of the pricing. It was the deciding factor for me. Any more then a 5 year payback wouldn't work for me. I had quotes over double Tesla. However your roof and electrical system are a major part of your home and I simply don't...

Installed larger system from another company since Tesla wouldn't change design

I would disagree with your analysis for the simple reason that it was close to impossible to contact my adviser. It was also very hard to change my design. Also I see Tesla now breaking contracts on Solar roofs. Now we are seeing they only want to sell solar with power walls. I appreciate...

Installed larger system from another company since Tesla wouldn't change design

Keep in mind that is the net cost. I used the Tesla number to drive down the price. But Tesla were too scary for me to use. I had several issues during my install that Tesla wouldn't have been able to remedy quickly give their lack of customer service.

Installed larger system from another company since Tesla wouldn't change design

I ended up paying $1.17 a watt for a local company install compared to the Tesla quote of $1 a watt. Very glad I did. Tesla are non responsive. Zero customer service. Cookie cutter designs.

    Solar Roof, big price increase

Once a company screws you the first time, it tends not to be the last.
  24. C

    Solar Roof, big price increase

Tesla used to do a 16kw system for $16k after incentives. $153k before incentives is idiotic.
  25. C

    Solar Roof, big price increase

Serious question. Even if Tesla backed down. Why would you even want to do business with a company that tries this. My installation was completed last week by another company. During the process they blew up my main panel and one the panels cracked. It took one minute to resolve both issues...

    Solar Roof, big price increase

I agree plywood is expensive. It's $50 a 32sf board. You can check it out at Home Depot. My decking was over 30 years old as was fine. Maybe a board or two needs to be replaced. After all it has been covered up. But $7200!!! The roofer can't even see the decking yet. If there had been an...

    Solar Roof, big price increase

I just had my roof replaced with just a standard asphalt roof a month ago. The roofer who is well respected put in the contract that every piece of plywood replaced would be $70. Some of plywood was literally exposed to the elements in New York for extended periods of time. None of my plywood...

    Solar Roof, big price increase

You make a valid point. Things change on a construction job and sometimes price changes are reasonable. For example asbestos shows up and has to be abated. But if absolutely nothing changes and you raise your prices by 50% after a contract has been signed then you're probably a shyster. Bottom...

    Solar Roof, big price increase

Very true. But I won't work with ones that try to stiff me. Why would I? There are actually plenty of honest car dealers from my experience. I'm getting solar panels installed tomorrow and I'm excited about it. But in all reality it's not going to change my life and if the company I bought...

    Solar Roof, big price increase

I wasn't personally affected by this price change. But I'll never buy a Tesla car as a result. I don't deal with liars and cheats. I am sure another manufacturer will step up eventually with a decent electric car.

    Sunrun vs Tesla

I passed on both Sunrun and Tesla. Good customer support was essential to me. Paying 20% extra was definitely worth it. Tesla were a joke in that regard.
  32. C

    Solar Roof, big price increase

I just noticed that Tesla switched my solar panel install from 18.36kw to 16kw on their configurator. The 16kw wouldn't cover my needs. And the price stayed exactly the same for over 10% less power. I'm not going with my install which is actually happening on Tuesday. Really glad I decided to...

    Solar Roof, big price increase

I just looked back on my previous posts on this forum. They all seem to have a negative slant. I don't think it's because I'm a troll. I like a lot of Tesla products. Or rather I like the idea of a lot of Tesla products. But my problem is that Tesla seem to have no problem treating their...

    Solar Roof, big price increase

Yes. I fully understand what this thread is about. But for me spending tens of thousands with someone and letting them work on my roof is a big deal. Trust is incredibly important and just changing the price after signed contracts is egregious. Just saying I was glad I didn't use them.

    Solar Roof, big price increase

I am getting my panels installed next week. I ended up going with a local company at a couple of thousand more then Tesla for a 18.36kw system. The more I read here the happier I am that I did so. It's so disappointing to settle on a price then get told after you sign a contract that it's now a...

    FSD test drive

I took out an S with FSD for a test drive. I went down what I would call B roads. The FSD light went on an off and admittedly it was a very hard test of the feature. But I felt it was incredibly dangerous. Now admittedly I'm a complete novice when it comes to full self driving. But one minute...

    Crickets - Do I escalate?

What I did was I got a quote from Tesla and used it to bargain down the price of my 18.36kw system so it was $2k more. The reason I didn't go with Tesla is that I asked for a redesign and it fell down a black hole. It just seemed a sign of things to come. $2 or 3k seemed worth it. However a lot...

    Crickets - Do I escalate?

Just reading this stuff makes me really happy that I didn't go with Tesla. Cost me about 10% more. But the inability to talk to anyone to straighten things out must be infuriating.

How many times on such a long trip would you have to intervene. Very rarely or quite often?

    Self driving

I have driven a tesla on a test drive but that is about it. If I had the self driving option and wanted to go from NYC To Pittsburgh, would the tesla be able to essentially drive itself there. If not how much involvement would I have besides holding the wheel? How safe would it be? Thanks

Install day but crew left??? not sure this was worth it.

It's posts like this that made me go with a local installer and not tesla. I used the tesla quote to knock down the local price.

    About to commit

I just got a quote from a new york company that wasn't totally insane. Using the same equipment as Tesla. They are 20% more then Tesla and I offered 10% more. I feel much more comfortable with a local company. Also my neighbor successfully used them so that helps peace of mind. I'm finding the...

    About to commit

I just put on a new roof and decided now was the time for a panel setup. Tesla is offering me an 18.36 kw set up for an net price after incentives of $19.5k. That price is about $30k lower then everyone else. Is there a reason for this discrepancy? Also is there anything else I should know...
