    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

With end of April promotion, I can lease a RWD M3 here in NYS for zero down, $350 a month. I am willing to bet the Ludicrous will be more than double that amount. I personally found the RWD Highland to be deeply impressive and very fun to drive. It would also be immune from the front end screech...

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Reports from a few weeks ago put the release in May. Has anyone seen anything remotely concrete to suggest this week? Speculation about trying to leverage the release to buoy a brutal earning calls seems a bit fanboi-wishful to me. Also I've been in Tesla's corner for a good long while and the...

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

All the Model 3 Performance ever needed was more supportive seats, more sophisticated suspension, and a little more oomph up top. It sure seems like it's getting all of these things, in addition to the underlying Highland updates. For me, the risk of disappointment lies not in the endless #ick...

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

Another oddity I've noticed is the noise seems to disappear if it's raining out, and not just because of the added road noise.

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

My primary problem with a $60K Model 3 is this is no longer the good old days of Teslas holding their value. Tesla's merciless price drops combined with the POS tax credits and the media trashing EVs means any new 3/Y purchase could very likely lose 40% value within 12 months. It's possible a...

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Could be the camera angle but it seems like it might be the first Model 3 to have a seat bottom that's long enough for adult humans.

What makes a car "fun to drive"?

To me, fun = engagement, ideally at around town speed. Cars like GR86, Miata, CTR, or even Giulia are all pretty engaging to operate in everyday traffic, but you're usually paying heavily in comfort and convenience. Vehicles like modern BMWs and Audis have traded engagement for refinement and...

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Bespoke motors, seats, and dampers? My bet is $59,990.

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

Tesla is not going to do anything for anyone. This "defect" is in thousands upon thousands of cars. As an example, DirtyTesla recently posted about selling his Model Y for his CT and mentioned his rear drive unit had a very unpleasant high pitched whine. Tesla offering a fix at this point would...

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

So after having a hissy fit about never buying another Tesla again, we obviously bought another Tesla. Test drove a bunch of vehicles to try and trade our MY for and were reminded how many annoyances there are with non-Tesla vehicles. Instead, we actually traded ours in on an inventory vehicle...

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

Just found out our 2023 Model Y LR with 10K miles that we paid $54K for a year ago is now worth $30K on trade. Tax rebates have obliterted resale value. Can't see ourselves buying another Tesla anytime soon.
  12. E

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

The odds of replacing one faulty drive unit with a second that is immediately faulty out of the box, is essentially zero. To me, this points at them not actually replacing it until the "second" go around. I have also had enough interracions with Tesla as a company over the last 5 years that I...
  13. E

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

I agree that it could be a bearing issue due to higher lube viscosity or thermal contraction in the cold. If that was the case though, wouldn't a front DU replacement immediately solve the issue? It did nothing for me and has actually made my issue worse, happening slightly less loud but at a...

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

So after having the "replacement" front drive unit in our 2023 MYLR not eliminate the noise, we are now starting to hear a similar noise in our 2021 MYLR. Does not bode well for finding a resolution to the issue.
  15. E

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

We just got our 2023 Model Y LR back from having the front drive unit replaced. The noise could still be heard, particularly on regen, despite it being nearly 60F outside. We are heartbroken.
  16. E

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

My question is if I have any legal recourse if I cannot get Tesla to admit there is an issue? Assume I can't take it to an independent shop and have them document the issue, for the purpose of pursuing lemon?

Comfort Suspension Not Much of an Improvement

IMO, people should hold off another 6 months, when the significant suspension improvement from the Highland Model 3 make their way to the Model Y.

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

So my vehicle normally resides in our garage at night but last night we left it outside. It got down into the 40s overnight and even after preheating/defrosting for 15 min before hand, the noise was back in full force, worse than ever on my short trip to work. Loud enough where I had to turn...
  19. E

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

Agree. My noise comes on first thing in the morning as soon as the temp dips below 65F. It's most present from 50 to 70 mph for my vehicle, generally under very light power / Regen, such as when maintaining speed on the highway. It has been 90% better during the summer, though I can still hear...

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

My noise comes and goesound 68-70 dgrees. It will be faint in the morning leaving from my garage and gone when I drive home from work after it sat in the sun all day. IMO, it will return 100% when temps dip back down. I'm planning to make another service appointment when it's cold out and leave...

As did we. Honestly at this point I'm hopeful you're just a bot.

I regret my Model Y purchase because of seat comfort and seating position problems

I'm similarly proportioned at 6'2" with a 33" inseam and 175 lbs. I still struggle with finding my perfect driving position, even 2 years in, though can generally get by without too much discomfort. For my previous GTI and Giulia, I also had the seats pretty much slammed with a bit of rake for...

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

Dealerships are worse when it comes to buying a car. Tesla is worse when it comes to service, which is why the joke is "in-spec". Buying a $60K vehicle that squeals like a rusty wagon and being told it's operating as designed is an absolute joke.
  24. E

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

People ask me all the time how I like my Tesla. I tell them the cars are amazing if you can get a good one but the QC is horrendous and they treat their customers like garbage. Part of the issue here is the service centers are owned by Tesla. An independent dealer would be much more motivated to...

Comfort Suspension Not Much of an Improvement

I run mine at 36/37 PSI cold, which is just above where the "Low Pressure" warning comes on. It makes a big difference in ride comfort, which I find becomes very harsh above 40 PSI.
  26. E

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

Nothing helpful on my end, but I finally took mine in and had exactly the experience others in the thread had. -It was a warm day and the car heated up on the way to the service center. Didn't make the noise as distinctly on the ride-along -Rough highway near service center made the noise...

New Fremont build, "white noise" while cruising on the highway

To clarify, they were sympathetic in person but didn't try to fix it at all. Just ran diagnostic on the HVAC system and said it was fine. The only fix is a new front drive unit and because that's so expensive, Tesla will fight tooth and nail not to do it. Mine only does it early in the morning...

New Fremont build, "white noise" while cruising on the highway

I have this and just had my first appointment to try to get it fixed. They were sympathetic on ride along and told me they'd figure it out. Kept the car ten minutes and just gave it back to me. This is our third Tesla and we're pretty gutted about it.

Dirt Roads and Salt Brine: Rusted 2 Y.O. Model Y Rear Brake Lines in New Hampshire

Thank you for taking the time to bring this issue to everyone's attention. It definitely seems like a "California Car" type oversight and is fully unacceptable considering the age of the vehicle and the possible ramifications of a brake line failure. Having salt packed into those crevices year...

    S3XY buttons at Abstract Ocean

My buttons have been pretty buggy in my 23 Model Y. 1) My hands-on auto-pilot button started engaging the annoying cow-bell gimmick, with only a single press. 2) I have a 4 second door-hold that opens the frunk enabled. Yesterday when I engaged Park pulling into work, the car honked and the...

Odd Noise between 20-50mph (Sounds like dentist drilling, Subway rail screeching, or a Lathe cutting metal?)

Not sure. I personally find the high frequency and chattering starting and stopping far more distracting and unpleasant than the typical rattles or creaks you get with most cars. If I was pursuing legal action, I would record the sound with a high quality microphone so you can visually...

    Ear pain/Pressure help

I stuffed small Harbor freight moving blankets in the left and right trunk pockets and a larger one in the sub trunk and noticed a startling reduction in noise.

Odd Noise between 20-50mph (Sounds like dentist drilling, Subway rail screeching, or a Lathe cutting metal?)

We only have 1 service center within several hundred miles, so we would likely have a tough time getting lemon law to stick.

2022 MYP High Pitched Noise (40+ mph)

Our ~2 month old '23 MYLR does this and it's brutal. Please let us know if you make any progress.

Odd Noise between 20-50mph (Sounds like dentist drilling, Subway rail screeching, or a Lathe cutting metal?)

This intermittent, ultra-high pitched squealing between 50 and 70 mph in my 2023 has gotten really bad as of late, to the point where I'm working from home because I dread operating the vehicle. I haven't filed a ticket yet because I'm more than half convinced they will claim not to hear it or...

2023 Model Y no USS discussion, incl. Discussion of Tesla Vision Firmware

Can the vision-based park assist be turned off? I've personally found it to be worse than nothing, with it flipping out and beeping "STOP" the entire time I pull into my somewhat tight garage space and then happily missing giant lamp posts in my grocery store parking lot.

Done with Tesla Model Y Performance after 2000km

Again, completely wrong. We've owned 3 Model Ys and test driven an additional 6 vehicles going back to when they were first released. We buy them for the drivetrain refinement, cost of ownership, safety, and convenience features, which are all vastly ahead of the market, but we don't pretend...

Done with Tesla Model Y Performance after 2000km

Hope you feel better now. I know it can be scary when those "critical thinking thoughts" start sneaking in. I'm glad you're satisfied with your vehicle, but that in no way makes any of these criticisms invalid. Regarding your comment on Tesla's paint, if you have to say anything to the effect...

Done with Tesla Model Y Performance after 2000km

I am in personal agreement with all of these observations. Paint: Worst in the industry Assembly Quality: Worst in the industry Sales Experience: Worst I've personally ever had among 5 different brands, with zero communication and several delays. Suspension: Worst in the industry and in no way...

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

To me, the noise I hear sounds like very faint but clearly audible coil whine that I might experience from a computer. The inverter whine isn't as high pitched or as intermittent. I've found this sound to be most prevalent from 50-70 with very light throttle application. I personally do not...

Comfort Suspension Not Much of an Improvement

I agree, I think the second you swap out pretty much any suspension component, you're opening yourself up to Tesla denying warranty on the front and rear drive units, simply because they figure they can get away with it. Swapping out for lightweight 18s with more sidewall is a much lower risk...

Comfort Suspension Not Much of an Improvement

Agree. The LR is now too bouncy to be comfortable but also too soft to be sporty. If we don't trade it in next year on a Rivian, we will look into replacing the dampers, though I'm not thrilled about opening myself up to warranty risk.

Comfort Suspension Not Much of an Improvement

The foam in the tires does almost nothing beneficial and can often be improperly adhered, causing balance issues. We replaced our OEM tires on our 21 MY with Vredesteins with no foam and it was a huge improvement in sound and comfort.

What is this high pitched cricket like noise?

Just checking in to say my 1/29/23 build date '23 MYLR does this like mad. Our 2021 Model Y does not do this.
  46. E

Comfort Suspension Not Much of an Improvement

Appreciate the feedback. At the time we purchased, only the MYLR was eligible for the tax credit, which was important to us. Now that the MYP qualifies, I would definitely advise folks to go that way and swap out for smaller wheels. I do think the MYLR at 48K with tax credit is still a very...

Comfort Suspension Not Much of an Improvement

I have around 750 miles on our 2023 now, while also still driving the wife's 2021. They are 100% tuned differently, but still undoubtedly one of if not THE worst in the market. Ultimately, it's similar to my initial findings that they have managed to reduce impact severity, at the cost of...

Are there any radar detector mounts for the Model Y?

Regarding the 9500 ix detecting laser, it's from the interior-facing IR LEds meant to provide illumination for driver monitoring. I had to turn off laser detection. I have mine mounted using a suction cup mount on the back of the display, plugged into the cig lighter, with the silence button...

Comfort Suspension Not Much of an Improvement

I am definitely considering the 18s, though a bit uncertain if the added sidewall could worsen the bounciness of the new comfort setup. The reduced cost of the smaller tires is also very appealing, considering how fast the Model Y smokes them. I also haven't yet experimented with reduced PSI or...
