    Help with math

No I wouldn’t. And I wouldn’t really care about B either. Truth is, I don’t even look at mileage numbers anymore. I look at the size of the battery, weight of the car, and (un)aerodynamic shape, and get a rough estimate of how far the car would be able to go, and get a rough number. As of...

    Help with math

I guess I sort of get what's going on here. If carmaker A advertises their car as 300 mile range, but the car can only get 150 in the real world, vs carmaker B says their car can do 100 miles but also gets 150 in the real world, people who bought car B would be ecstatic and people who bought...

While supercharging does the price change after starting session?

I unwillingly fell into a test, by arriving at a supercharger 5 minutes before the free charging time was up. It was one of those promotions where Tesla was offering free supercharging at certain hours due to holiday weekend. If I got charged or not was how I was going to find out-and the good...

And Rivian falls (to adopt NACS from 2024)

The best short-term solution is an adapter with an attached cable so that doesn't happen. Yeah, its not going to be a very elegant looking cable, it might be chunky, and probably even heavy, but it's better than the alternative you stated. The long term solution is obviously NACS charging...

What about Nissan? I didn't see anything about them going to NACS or otherwise.

    GM just adopted NACS 🤯🤯🤯

I bought three CHAdeMo adapters (and a CCS adapter) from the korean place where people were buying CCS adapters a few months before Tesla USA started selling them. Sold two overpriced so the third was basically free. How often was the CHAD adapter used? Just once and it was at a charger that...

Is Electrify America TRYING to Ruin EVs and Adoption!?

Walmarts are different in different parts of the country. Many Walmarts here have fast food restaurants inside, like McDonalds, or Subway. I have been to Walmarts with bathrooms in the back of the store, and I’ve been to some with those in the front. I’ve been to Walmarts that only sold...

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

Trying to guess what 3-phase power is, is it the one where: J1772, plugged into a charger at work, and get only 208V vs 240V at home? If it is, that's not a big deal either. 208V vs 240V is only a tad slower on L2. Hardly enough to make a difference on the charging end.

Is Electrify America TRYING to Ruin EVs and Adoption!?

Don’t forget the wiring. It’s not a simple cut-the black-wire-then-join-it-to the-green one. Or the charging hardware/software compatibility. Not to mention having to relocate the charge port door to the driver’s side rear area. I’m pretty sure all of this to be ironed out or a whole year’s...

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

-800V is desirable, but if someone needs a charge, they will use 400V if it is available. Charging speed is not a huge deal as.... -Reliable chargers. I use CCS1 periodically, and have gotten the *stops charging after 10 minutes* errors. Honestly, I think anyone who thinks CCS1 is superior...

DQOTD: Why Are There Always So Many Cars Just Sitting at Tesla Service Centers?

Compared to traditional auto dealers, there's not enough Tesla service centers for the amount of Teslas on the road. When that happens, there's simply going to be a LOT more Teslas at a given service center at any time than auto dealership service center. Not only that, the service centers...

Why stores offer free EV charging? Not free gas?

They absolutely do not-they value their cheapness above all else. Unfortunately, there’s enough of these people to make this an issue. It’s why we can’t have free things.
  13. Exelion

Why stores offer free EV charging? Not free gas?

So people can just unplug and replug their cars at 1 hour, 55 minutes and continue getting $0.20 per kWh? People who hog these chargers are used to this sort of game. Volta tried to limit charges to two hours but people did exactly the above to get around that.
  14. Exelion

Why stores offer free EV charging? Not free gas?

there’s a Volta charging station near here. And it’s always taken by the few asshats who live close by and use it as their personal charging space. You can always tell (not just because it’s the same damn car), but also because two vehicles pull up and once the charging starts, the driver...

    CCS Adapter for North America

It does, but SC’s and DCFC’s are not always near each other, heavily depending on the part of the country you live. Exactly where I live, the nearest SC is 12 miles away but the DCFC (electrify america) is 200 yards away. How often? Often enough to be inconvenient. Murphy’s law takes over...

I agree. The software needs a place where you can select “I have the CCS adapter” and then unlock all the CCS charging stations in the area on the map.

I dare any California person to buy a Mazda-MX30!

It was just bad timing. Had the i3 been released in 2020, right when pandemic struck, BMW would’ve sold every single i car AND have a waitlist. There would be no outrageous low priced $99.00 lease deals, no dealer markdowns, no begging for customers. The CEO and i design team would be hailed...

    CCS Adapter for North America

Hmmm….. I have the korean one, and its 1 lb, 12.9 oz. So yeah, about 1.81 lbs. same weight. I’m wondering about the power rating labels though. Doing the math, 500V x 300A = 150kW. The US model states 250kW right on the adapter. Then again, I’ve pulled a little over 180 for brief...

    CCS Adapter for North America

I agree with this one, after plugging into many L2’s at work, strip malls, and lately, movie theaters. The amount of V2 heads available vs a single DCFC (50 and above) is a lot more desirable. I’d venture to say on the order of maybe eight to ten L2’s vs the one DCFC. I keep hoping that...

    CCS Adapter for North America

Oh yes it is. Before the CC1 adapter was available (from SK) i was charging from CHAdeMO all the time due to credits and free chargers. Most of that was sitting around for 45 mins to two hours. People forget that when it says 50kw, that’s 50kw MAX! The stupid things are usually pushing...

    Idle Fee

This is true. If we look at gas stations more as “a stop for motorists” than strictly a “gasoline fill up station” then we can change what they offer without having to remove them entirely. They still have much to offer other than gasoline. I think (could be wrong on this) they profit more...
  29. Exelion

    Idle Fee

As much as I hope that is coming soon, I don’t think it will unless more effort is put into charging infrastructure than selling cars. The amount of electric cars sold every month is much more than the amount of charging station installed. This applies to both Teslas & other electrics...

They could if they had cameras installed at all their stations. I know-that would incur more expenses and people would have to then spend time watching videos. So, it will be a very long time until (and that’s if) EA gets to where Tesla is now with charging infrastructure.

Gimped L2 chargers that pull only 3kw are just as bad, if not worse than, gimped DC chargers. We’re talking about 5% charge per hour. And I’ve hooked up to plenty of those!! It’s all about leveraging the amount of chargers vs the charging rate vs the price. $0.20 per, 20 L2’s that charge...

If IKEA were smart, they’d drop the KW rate to 50kw instead of 150-350. That way people will have to spend a little more than half hour to fast charge (hour to two hours). By dropping the rate, they can have more charging stalls too! Which is preferred- six 150-350’s or 18 50KW stalls? If...

Anyone thinking about an VW ID.4 Instead?

A dealer network adds nothing of value for Tesla. If you break down what a dealer network is, well, that’s land, buildings, people, and parts distribution. Tesla would rather buy some low-rent industrial warehouse to fix their cars-that’s pretty much where they are now and continue to be...

    CCS Adapter - ?

The picture of that chinese adapter confuses me. First, I don’t see the extending safety pin that Tesla has on its adapter, which locks the CCS1 plug and prevents it from being unplugged while charging. The second, is this one, I don’t know if it means it is identical in function to the...

Non-Tesla / non-EVgo station with built in Tesla CCS adapter

I don’t think permanently connecting the Tesla CCS1 adapter is a good idea, especially since not all Tesla’s can use it (at this time). Not in plugshare, but in EVGo’s own phone app it shows you which plugs the station has, and if its currently being used, either CCS1 or CHAD/Tesla (notice the / because those two are actually on the same outlet). I use EVGo a lot because I have a ton of credits off a program that ended a few...

EVGo stations have built-in adapters. Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

I agree with the first part, CHAd seems like an early attempt at a DCFC standard and is huge and overweight. For the second, I’ve seen the opposite at some stations where the CCS handles were broken (latches) but the CHAd was fine. So this one can work both ways. I guess: cary both Setec...

That would be the same as saying paying an extra $20k for a Benz or BMW over a Honda or Toyota. This isn’t how most people think. They look at how much they want to spend, say $46,000 and then see what car they can get for that price. Two years a ago, a model Y did fall into that range as...
