Extremely long body shop times for Model S

My Model S is in the Tesla body shop in the Bay Area for repairs after an accident. Tesla can't even look at the vehicle until April and beyond that they are warning me that parts are in short supply so the repair could take months. Insurance will only cover me for 30 days of rental. Beyond...

    Tesla commitment to service

Anyone heard from service advisors about how long Tesla is going to keep servicing Roadsters? I had a power train fault and it took a while to diagnose. The SC had to email engineering in Palo Alto who took a week to get back with possible answers. They did debug it — turned out to be a...

Yet another TPMS for Roadster 1.5 thread

Looks like the OEM Tesla prices have gone up for the 1.5 TPMS sensors and are now $236 each! Mine recently died and I am reluctant to pay $944 for a set of 4. Anyone tried these sensors? http://www.oewheelsllc.com/TPMS/make/Tesla/model/Roadster/year/2008 Thanks in advance.

    Roadster drag coefficient

Does anyone on this forum happen to know if the reported drag coefficient is measured with the hardtop on or without a top? The only known report of the drag coefficient seems to be from this article. The quoted number of 0.35 for the Roadster seems suspiciously high.

    Rattle from somewhere in front

I have a rattle while driving at around 65mph. It sounds much like a rattlesnake - but it is constant and around 5 rattles a second :) I thought it might be the Bilstein's but it only appears at 65mph or above and never a lower speeds. This seems really difficult to diagnose so I thought I would...

Trunk latch sticks and struts are weak

One side of my trunk does not open consistently. It sticks every other time. I have greased the latch but that did not work. Seems like the electromagnet may be failing. Also, the struts that lift up the latch are getting pretty weak. My car only has 17k miles. Seems like these parts were not...

Small crack in CF near the bottom pan by driver door

I noticed a couple of small cracks on the carbon fiber at the bottom of the vehicle where the aluminum plate bolts are. Th see are about 0.25 inch, not too deep. Looks like I might have bottomed out on a speed bump as there are scrapes near the crack. How does CF behave with cracks? Do they...

    Mild shimmy after cold start

I'm seeing a very mild steering wheel shimmy during the first 10-15 miles on cold starting that completely disappears after the tires warm up. Could this be a bad set of tires or a wheel balance issue? I have hit a few potholes recently but it seems unlikely that alignment would be a problem.

    Reducing drag coefficient

If Wikipedia is accurate, the Roadster has a Cd (drag coefficient) of 0.35 whereas the Model S is 0.24 and the Model 3 may be even lower. I am wondering if there are low-hanging fruit to be had on the Roadster and that can be done aftermarket?

Charge on plug-in or delayed charge?

This topic may have been beaten too many times, but I am wondering about charging on plug-in to cool the battery vs. charge when below 60% SOC. My trips are about 25-45 miles of freeway driving uphill/downhill and I have been charging at 208V/30A immediately on parking to cool the battery...

Extension of warranty at the end of 3 years

I am wondering if anyone has successfully been able to extend their Roadster warranty after the first 3 years of buying their CPO directly from Tesla? My understanding is that it is $3600 to extend by an additional 3 years.

    Sport suspension anti-sway bars

I had these installed by Tesla on my 1.5 Roadster and they made a noticeable difference. The rear-end stays tight on sharp curves while the front is unaffected. Overall, the ride is much more confident. I have the OEM Eibach stock sway bars in case anyone wants them.

    Maximum regen amps

Hi folks, The maximum regen amps I am seeing on my Roadster is 83 amps when driving at 60-70mph on a level road and letting go of the accelerator pedal. Is that in the normal range. I recall seeing over 100 amps at one point but maybe I am not remembering correctly?

    Anti-roll bars

Has anyone looked at third-party anti-roll bars? I believe a good set will greatly reduce the roll and improve stability and cornering. Having driven on poorly maintained mountainous roads the roll and stiffness makes for a bit of a scary ride at speed :-) Seems like Tesla is still selling this...

Recomendations for rear view mirror for night-time driving

Has anyone actually driven a Roadster from the SF Bay Area to Lake Tahoe?

I noticed that a previous poster decided to abandon this trip. Has anyone actually driven this route? evtripplanner.com claims it is a 6081 ft net elevation gain with 17188 ft in ascents and 11103ft in descents with 135kWH used. Seems like a few charging stops will be needed - I estimate at...

    VDS elevation reports N/A

The elevation on the VDS on my 1.5 Roadster suddenly started reporting N/A. Everything else seems fine and there are no error messages. OVMS reports (0.0, 0.0) for the latitude/longitude. Could the GPS antenna have come loose since there are no errors reported on the VDS?

Difference between the 2.0/2.5 and 1.5 transaxle?

Hi folks: I've been out of sight in the forum for a few months waiting for a new motor for my 1.5. My motor became extremely noisy - some bearing issue. Tesla finally custom-built a new one and replaced it for me under warranty. The difference in noise is like night and day (is there a better...

    New motor for my 1.5

My motor makes a weird harmonic noise when accelerating at around 55-60mph, all the way through to 70-75. It sounds like a ghost or a banshee. Tesla tried to reseat the motor but I was skeptical it would work and it did not. The noise is likely a slip frequency harmonic - around 400Hz. Try an...

    Roadster turn radius

My 1.5 has a huge turn radius. Makes getting out of tight spots a bit of a pain. Wondering if the 2.Xs are the same? I suppose that is something we have to live with, given the tight clearance between the frame and the wheels.

My Roadster has been sitting indoors for 10 days at Dietsch Werks waiting for a new bumper to be shipped from Tesla. OVMS temps reports my motor to be 61C. Parking lot fender bender

    Charging problem

Today I plugged my Roadster into the UMC at 40A as I have always done and momentarily got a "Charging Problem" error screen on the VDS. The popup disappeared and charging continued normally. I can't reproduce the problem. Could this be due to a transient dip in voltage? Thanks.

Passenger door sags after some driving

Hi folks, I drove my first long-distance round trip of 160 miles from the Bay Area to Carmel, CA and noticed that the passenger door starts to sag after about 30-40 mins of driving. A distinct gap develops between the window and the top rubber seal and it gets noisy and lets a lot of air in...

Dings and chips on bottom half of doors

    CAC increased, ideal miles decreased

CAC on my car has steadily inched up from 153.3 to 154.0 over two weeks but my ideal miles has dropped from 187 to 184 during the last couple of charges. I have been driving more aggressively though, thanks to the Nitron race shocks :-) Would driving habits cause the ideal miles to drop?

1-DIN Roadster owners...any custom audio mods?

The 1.5 Roadsters have plenty of room below the 1-DIN slot to expand to 2-DIN. One option I am considering is to trim the long aluminum "tray" and make room for a 2-DIN housing. There are a couple of custom shops in the Bay Area willing to do this for a fraction of the cost of Tesla's now...

Timed charging not working on J1772

The timed charging on my 1.5 roadster is not working when plugged into a J1772 using the Tesla adapter. It does nothing. I also tried it with Henry's CAN - same result. However, it works when using the backup 110V cable. Charging immediately when plugged into J1772 works fine. Is this normal...
