    New active safety feature?

We were about to overtake some cyclists when one briefly swerved towards the car - looked like they were avoiding something in the road. The car sounded the horn - it was a short beep but enough to warn the cyclist. It didn't save a clip. We were travelling at about 20mph at the time. We had...

    Weird metal noise

Here's a weird one... been getting a sound that is similar to sound of an ICE exhaust system being dropped on the ground. Only happened twice so far. First time I thought it was exactly that - an ICE with a bad exhaust - but it just happened again with no other cars around. Happened at...

    Autopark must (also) be supervised

The Autopark feature was broken for several months after I collected my M3P. It would find a space, and allow me to start the process, but then the steering wheel would go nuts and Autopark would fail hard - it would take a while before allowing me to put the car back in D or R to continue...

ARS: Tesla has been giving some of its most loyal customers the runaround

Nice summary of the recent fun and games with FSD pricing over at Arstechnica. Interesting quote on HW2. Unfortunately, it links to a paywalled article on the WSJ, but you get the idea:

    V9 AP visualization cluttered?

I finally got V9 on my MS this weekend and went out to play in the local rush hour traffic. There was a lot of traffic, and it struck me that the 3D visuals, whilst pretty (and pretty amazing from a technical perspective) were so cluttered & busy that they did not actually help with the mundane...

    New "Deep Blue Metallic"?

Have they changed the colour, or just the image? I couldn't find a facelift CPO DBM in on any Tesla site. New cars on the website all look like they have been lifted straight out of the movie "Tron"... The original image looks much closer to the cars I have seen on the road.

Two Paths (AP On-Ramp to Off-Ramp)

EM quote (via Teslarati): “There’s a new version of Autopilot that’s rolling out, I think, this week which I think is quite a significant improvement. What you’ll see is that the reliability and capability of Autopilot will increase exponentially over the next 6-12 months. The improvements are...

    Engineering Car?

Yvette on Twitter Lots of goodies to see here! Looks like the "augmented" view shows boxes around objects from the 3 active cams. Also, an FSD menu!

Mobileye and the Finger Of Blame

A new paper by Shai Shalev-Shwartz, Shaked Shammah & Amnon Shashua off of Mobileye has been posted on Arxiv: "On a Formal Model of Safe and Scalable Self-driving Cars" attempts to provide a standardised "responsibility-sensitive safety system" (aka "The Finger Of Blame") for self-driving cars...

    17.16.35 - No AEB

Had this pushed to my MS a few days ago while it was at the SuC. No AEB, which was a surprise given that 17.11.45 has AEB. Am assuming that 17.16 is newer than 17.11? Have noticed that motorway AP is generally smoother, i.e. when approaching a slower car from behind or taking a corner (less...

What does Powerwall 2 tell us about the Model 3 battery?

    Does comparing the specs of Powerwall 1 against Powerwall 2 tell us anything useful about the Model 3 battery and 2170 cells? Dimensions (L x W x D) PW1: 52.1" x 33.9" x 7.1" (130cm x 86cm x 18cm) => 201,240 cm3 PW2: 44" x 29" x 5.5" (115cm x 75.5cm x 15.5cm) => 134,578 cm3 Based on the...

    Model 3 Battery Speculation

The animation behind Elon shows 8 modules building up the battery. We know from previous comments that the M3 battery will be smaller, both physically and in capacity, so how are they able to get an EPA of 215 miles out of such a small battery? Let me start by saying that I am not convinced...

    Lincoln Navigator Gull Wings?

Looks like Falcon Wing Doors might be a "thing" after all... Lincoln Navigator Concept Now they just need to dump the ICE - looks like plenty of room for a battery under that huge floor :)

Where did they hide the 12v battery posts, and how to tow a MX?

Behind the Model S nosecone is the tow-eye and, perhaps more importantly, the battery terminals. These are useful for when the 12v battery has died and the car needs to be unlocked; the tow-eye is useful for moving the car when a flatbed isn't available. As the MX doesn't have a nosecone, does...

Model S test mule with multiple cameras

Just found this posted on electrek.co (from reddit): "The vehicle seems to be equipped with at least 6 cameras and 2 different sensors. 3 forward looking cameras, one on each side and one in the back." - it looks more like 5 cameras in the front, if you include the stereo cameras fitted in...

    P85 Classic faster after 6.2?

Installed 6.2 this morning and now the car feels noticeably faster, especially when overtaking. Maybe subjective, warmer roads, etc. But, Elon did tweet that the classic P would see an improvement. Anyone with 6.2 and a classic P able to do a timed 0-60 and maybe 0-10, 10-20, 20-30 etc... with...

    70kwh usable?

Yesterday, I set off to work with 80% charge. When I got home, I had used 52% of that leaving 28% remaining. (Car is showing % instead of range). The total amount used since last charge was just over 36kwh, according to the trip meter. This suggests a 100% battery capacity of only 70kwh...

    Alarm notification/remote killswitch?

Trying to get my new MS insured with a broker and was asked a couple of interesting questions when discussing the need for a third party tracker to be installed... * Does the car notify you if the alarm is triggered, i.e. through the app or an email/SMS? * Do Tesla have a remote-kill...

Report: Electric drive vehicles have little impact on US pollutant emissions

Just found this from NC State Uni. Not able to read full report so not sure how much they factor solar/renewables into their simulations. "A new study from North Carolina State University indicates that even a sharp increase in the use of electric drive passenger vehicles (EDVs) by 2050 would...

    MS v Floods

OK, so I was driving through yet another flooded road on the way into work this morning when I started to wonder how the MS would cope. The water was pretty deep by the curb, probably deep enough to be splashed into the air intake at the bottom of the MS grill. I've read a few threads on here...

RHD Charging Port.. which side will it be on?

The LHD car has the charging port on the driver's side which is really useful for those people with smaller parking spaces - there is always enough space for the driver to get in and out of the car AND plug in for a charge. If they leave the port where it is, then it becomes a bit of a problem...

UK Test Drives start early Oct (LHD only)

Some good news for the UK - Tesla have started booking test drives! The cars are apparently EU-spec, which means they are LHD. We'll have to wait a bit longer for the RHD models. You can reserve your test drive from the Tesla UK home page now. For some reason you don't get a choice of model -...

    The Tesla Grin Activation Pedal

I spend a lot time in stop/start traffic, and one of the things that would be a huge problem for me is if the go-pedal is too "twitchy". The P85 may be able to do 0-60 in 4-and-a-bit seconds, but it doesn't mean that I want to do that every time I touch the pedal! So, how well-behaved is the MS...
