2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

And more than 300 mi range!

Did you PPF your new Tesla?

I got my full front done, and it was certainly worth it. 5.5 years and not a single scratch, rock chip, nothing. Front still looks brand new, (as does the rest of the car). So happy with the choice, when I received the 2023 Model 3, I didn’t hesitate. Same full front, headlights, mirror backs...

    $235 for cabin filter replacement?

I had my first battery replaced after about 2 1/2 years under warranty, and I did the second one myself in the garage a few months ago. I also replaced my cabin air filter and cleaned with Kool It, following that up with Lysol. Ran HVAC on high heat for both, and the results were great!

    Choosing a 2022 or 2018 M3LR AWD

Great choice. Newer is usually better, all other considerations being similar.

Do you hand wash or car wash your Tesla?

I hand wash with foam cannon, and dry with Wax as You Dry, for both cars pretty regularly. I have also used automated washes with zero detectable drawbacks. I consistently get looks and words of disbelief when I reveal the 2018’s age and mileage.

2024 Model 3 RWD vibrations at highway speed - is this an issue for others?

So is the shipping time really that much longer than other long-sit times like when they’re on Tesla lots after before delivery? I’ve never heard of this before with any other manufacturer.

The quest for the ultimate efficiency.

My apologies for the mistype. I meant to say under 260 wh/mi, not 160. That would be an insane expectation.

The quest for the ultimate efficiency.

My lifetime efficiency's 267, so not shabby at all considering 5.5 years, 20" wheels/tires, and all that the P model brings to the table. I'm contemplating changing to an 18" setup next time I need tires, to see what efficiency improvements that would net. Sounds like it'd be well under 160. But...

Bug removal, front bumper, how often

I agree on the dryer sheets. Even the cheapest ones you can find are excellent at removing bugs super easily, especially if you get to them quickly. Use lots of water, let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe off.

Bug removal, front bumper, how often

I’ve found getting them off as soon as possible is the best way to prevent damage. I try to never leave them on overnight, even if I’m not going to wash the whole car.

Did you just buy a Tesla from Hertz Car Rental?

I rented one a few months back in Miami that was fully functional horsepower wise.

I’d definitely remove that roof rack, to not give them anything to blame before you get it to the SC.

US pre-Highland / Highland split at model year and calendar year 2023 / 2024?

I'm reminded of the early Model 3 days, when anyone would make reference to, or ask a question referring to, their car's model year and they'd get shouted down that "Tesla doesn't do model years!" I can't remember what exactly prompted that often trumpeted assertion but looking back its interesting.

Did you just buy a Tesla from Hertz Car Rental?

I've just passed 100,000 miles on my 2018 P, and I am amazed at how little attention its needed. Least maintenance / repair vehicle I have ever owned, over more than 4 decades. This is amazing, and needs to be trumpeted from the hilltops!

    Windshield replacement

I cancelled an install with Safelite a few months back due to them insisting on charging a few hundred dollars for a "calibration." No matter how hard I pressed that the car calibrates itself (clearly, by now, they know this is a fact), they still wouldn't relent so I just went to Tesla to have...

    $235 for cabin filter replacement?

As I mentioned, I just completed the replacement in my 2018 P at 100,000 miles. Never did get any kind of reminder.

How are the wheel bearings on long range or performance holding up for you with lot of miles?

Exactly. At 268 wh/mi, I’m not dogging it every chance I get. But, yeah, I get on it occasionally.

    $235 for cabin filter replacement?

I recently replaced mine and installed the thumb screw to not have to worry about the screwdriver next time. It was easier than I thought after having put it off for so long (first time replacement at 100,000 miles). Of course I did a thorough cleaning of the coils while I was at it. I’ll tell...

    2017 Model S or 2018 Model 3?

Model 3 for the win. Both are great cars, but the S is too large a vehicle for me personally. Which is kinda the point.
  25. ODWms

How are the wheel bearings on long range or performance holding up for you with lot of miles?

I’m at over 100,000 so far (5.5 years) with no detectable issues with the bearings.

    My Q

I have an Aladdin setup on my Genie garage door opener, and it works perfectly. No extra charges and it’s perfectly compatible with the Tesla system. It has an app, so I can control the garage door remotely, with or without the car nearby. Between the Genie / Aladdin system and Homelink garage...

Smelly stinky socks / mold in Model 3 AC

I finally replaced the air filters / cleaned the coils for the first time, after 100k miles, 5 1/2 yrs. Never had a real problem with the odor although I would notice a very slight smell from time to time during wet weather, when I'd do multiple back to back trips (high humidity situations)...

Ordered a 3, but I hit a coyote with my trade in vehicle. What do?

Wow. I didn’t realize you have free supercharging. I’d drive that thing til the wheels fall off. You can literally overcome the upside down status of your loan and then some, on that alone!

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

And this emulates the auto lane change feature, for less than $300 you say? I am intrigued. My wife took delivery last year on a Model Y with only AP (and she never, EVER, uses even that). This would well be worth the $300 for the times I’m driving, taking trips, etc.

Tesla Repair Center's approach for Flat Tires - Replace Or Repair??

Same here, as it always has been over more than 4 decades of driving. When I replaced my originals, I picked up a nail the first week. I plugged it and never had a single issue up until replacement again, almost 50,000 miles later.

    CF spoilers: Delaminating inevitable?

I’d been dealing with the delaminating issue also. The spoiler started developing dime-sized separation spots after about 4 1/2 yrs or so. Those spots ended up getting bigger to the point about 1/3 of the spoiler was separated in spots. In lieu of replacement, I decided to try removing the...

Tesla Repair Center's approach for Flat Tires - Replace Or Repair??

Yeah, for a single person, the risk is very minimal. For a multi billion dollar corporation, dealing with hundreds of thousands of customers, I can see why they wouldn't want to take on the liability.

Got Scammed with defective Wall Charger. Will it still work?

What recourse would we have in a situation where the wall unit turns out to be stolen? Unless there was a substantial discount (and maybe even then), I’d think a used wall charger would end up being more trouble than it’s worth.

Problem with my M3 - All dead

I wouldn’t be surprised if the battery connectors weren’t tightened enough on install, so one or the other isn’t contacting. I’d try that before going through the service center rigmarole. Of course, there’s also the possibility that the new battery was defective.
