Model Y towing RV - on Tesla's website

Im curious, what RV model is that? Im not sure that's the most efficient one. Perhaps its better looking and that's why it was chosen. https://digitalassets.tesla.com/tesla-contents/video/upload/f_auto,q_auto/Model-Y-Utility-Desktop.mp4

NACS / SAE J3400 to NEMA 5-15 adapter?

Thank you, you both summed it up really well. I will explore adding a socket, it’s a good investment.

NACS / SAE J3400 to NEMA 5-15 adapter?

I’m trying to find a solution to charge my e-bike in the garage. I could get an electrician to alter the small circuit box feeding my Tesla charger, or find an appropriate adapter that will convert to a NEMA 5-15. I found this adapter but it is not NACS, it is J1772. SUSUTOO J1772 to Nema 5-15...

    low-voltage battery & cold weather

Interesting, I never realized newer vehicles with v12 already have a Li-ion battery. Mine (Match 2021 MY) is just a few months older than the cutoff. Luckily I live in warm climate :)

    low-voltage battery & cold weather

I hope you read the (somewhat biased) article from the NYTimes on the weather struggles people had this week with their Tesla. (TL;DR: apparently people don't pay enough attention to how to operate their vehicle in extreme-cold conditions...) In any case, they interviewed a former Tesla...

    CyberTruck (CT) waiting room

I wouldn’t be able to park the CT in the garage, my MY barely makes the gate :) I wonder how it would be to wash it. I hope it’ll be super easy due to the stainless steel. Any thoughts?

    Ceramic coating after two years?

Hi, I’m tired of washing the car at the shop and paying $50. (I don’t have a garage, plus the Y is huge!). was thinking of getting ceramic coating to make it easy to self-wash at a coin wash. However, I’m not sure if it’s reasonable labor-wise to apply coating, as the car is two years old and...

    Steering wheel leather FAIL

This happened to me. Important notice: 1. If you ask during the service they might very well cover, as this is a common issue. 2. the Tesla ranger who came to replace said that they are about to introduce a new steering wheel which prevents the bubbling/blistering issue. It might take up to a...

NSWD - New Steering Wheel Day (replacement)

This happened to me. Notice - the Tesla ranger who came to replace said that they are about to introduce a new steering wheel which prevents the bubbling/blistering issue. It might take up to a year until it comes out so you might want to delay the “in warranty” replacement (I couldn’t because...

    General diagnosis fee on warranty

I asked service. They said the fee is for a 1 hour general diagnostic (I guess it's not easy to replicate). They said, however, that if the issue turns out to be in warranty, then they will waive the fee. Sounds reasonable. I guess they had to many customers abusing the free service visit, so...

    General diagnosis fee on warranty

My Model Y started making click sounds from the AC (near glove box). I searched and saw this has been reported by multiple people. I scheduled a service with Tesla and they want to charge me $240 for general diagnosis. Should I complain, let it slide or avoid the service? 🤷

    Why not OEM tires?

When I replaced my tires a month ago I asked the tire shop about alternatives (more specifically, about the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus), but they recommended me to purchase the OEM tires which I did. I don’t believe they had any bias there. I’ll dig into this again in 2-3 years...

Help - correct roof rack positioning?

Ok! I found the answer - the rear bar sits higher from the roof (that’s because the roof is a few cm lower than the floor at the back, so it compensates for it). So if you need to be sure, just measure the bar height from the roof. I measured on the split between the bar and the mount, so it’s...

    Why not OEM tires?

Thank you. I do like long road trips (I.e. driving from Bryce to Grand Canyon was challenging) but I think I’ll try a different set of tires this year and see the difference.

    Why not OEM tires?

Thanks everyone! It still sounds to me that if I care much about range, I should stick with the continentals. Any better alternative which is still range conscious? For Southern California (sunny, no snow).
  18. yurmix

    Why not OEM tires?

Why do people consider other tires than the Continental ProContact RX “19? I assume that the OEM tires the most tested to match the Model Y characteristics. I also assume that Tesla doesn’t cut corners for quality. What are the benefits of the other brands?

Car wash needed for Autopilot sensors?

Thank you! Actually, I just noticed Tesla manual states that they should be kept clean, and cleaned only with water (spay or pressure). Also mention to avoid using wipe or hand on an “exposed lens” (I guess this is relevant to the rear view camera and the two side repeaters near the wheels)...

Car wash needed for Autopilot sensors?

My question is more - do I have to clean them or are the sensors designed not to catch dust/debree.

Car wash needed for Autopilot sensors?

Hi, I’m on a long road trip and the car accumulated a lot of dust. Should I be concerned about Autopilot sensors (aka repeaters) visibility? I can spray water on the vicinity (maybe coin op wash), or use my detailing spray, till I get home.

What audio source do you use the most?

Is use BT a lot for playing Podcasts/Apple Music/YouTube. I also use Streaming - it’s easy to use and has is nicely curated. Don’t use Spotify that much as the UI isn’t that nice.

Tesla cancelled reservation that I bought from a person

It’s a free market and you should have the right to pay your way into getting the car faster. But it also creates unnecessary scalping. I guess it has become big enough of an issue for Tesla. Especially since it takes some of the profit from them (economically speaking).

Cargo box for Model Y hitch

I just paid $1300 to add the tow package, thinking it’s better for the lifetime value to add an OEM part over an aftermarket. What a huge mistake. E trailer sales a class III eco hitch for 1/4 the price which can carry x2 the capacity...

Cargo box for Model Y hitch

Hi, I need just a bit more storage for road trips. Since I have a hitch, I’m thinking of skipping the roof rack / cargo setup and go with a hitch cargo box (less expensive setup, easier to remove vs roof rack). Any thoughts? Anyone has experience with such a setup?

    V10.8 UI: navigate-on-autopilot button

Is this button the same old “navigate on autopilot” button from pre v10.8/v11? What exactly is it’s function for FSD Beta (v10.8)? Does highway navigation still requires me to push this button?

    Tesla Wall Charger VS J1772

Santa Monica. I'll ask them before I unbox the charger, maybe they will accommodate it. Although the wording is very clear on their rebate application: Chargers must utilize the SAE J1772 charging plug and must be new and unused; certified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc (UL Listed)

Hello, I'm doing a project in my multi home building where several of us are installing an EV Charger and get rebates from the local government. Tesla ranks 2nd worst in Consumer reports reliability survey

Reliability isn’t a big thing anymore, when the service comes to your house and with OTA updates. Also usually issues are not preventing you completely from driving. The abundance of features, great driving experience and high safety scores compensate for that. CR is unbiased in my belief...

On another note: In case this wasn't discussed before (this is a loooong thread :), I found it very beneficial to drive on the highway 100% on autopilot. This saved me from HB penalties which I had the first two days (And probably some UF penalties). I suspect Autopilot breaking isn't counted as...

I’ll check that but I think I already have the answer, which is I shouldn’t have continue driving: After driving to work, todays score got slight better but the day’s weight also increased, so in total I was dinged down by one further total point. So I guess if you screw things early in the day...

    Price Increase

When I bought my Model Y back in March I was kinda pissed at the $1000 surprise price hike after making a configuration change. Looking back, I bought the car $5000 cheaper than today and only had to wait 3 weeks for delivery. How things change!

    Safety Score

I’ll try to drive more and see where it takes me. If it improves then I’ll drive even more tonight :) BTW my average daily miles are ~25. I mostly drive autopilot on the highway so I don’t get penalized for breaks.

Major Yoke concerns from Consumer Reports initial review

The big difference is iPhone is not used for emergency handling of a vehicle. It could be that excellent drivers will benefit but I doubt the average driver won’t at least see a huge learning curve while operating a dangerous machine which requires training and license.

Major Yoke concerns from Consumer Reports initial review

Summary: Deep dive: what do you all think? I know people are dismissing CR as biased against Tesla but having followed CR reporters for years I believe they aren’t. Also, watching the deep dive, those seem like valid concerns. I haven’t tested the Yoke, I enjoy my Model Y for now. I’m just...
