Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

One thing that I don't see being discussed concerning FSD. We're looking at this as how it impacts the sales of Tesla vehicles, the ability to use Tesla vehicles as robotaxis or "mass transit" vehicles. Goes a lot further. All that technology can be sold to other companies as an entirely new...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Bingo! I think the underlying point is that Tesla is (or could be anyway) the world's undisputed leader in AI and it's practical application towards "physical" problems, as opposed to just directed advertising. The efforts put into FSD transfer and scale (potentially anyway, I'm no AI expert)...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Google was working on autonomous vehicles with their Waymo project. They abandoned it years ago. I don't think Apple has ever seriously looked at it. Apple has little manufacturing experience, instead primarily having their products contract manufactured and sticking their label on it. I...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I think part of the letdown of the Cybertruck delay was their own making. This week they had been "promoting" it. New releases of videos and stills of "prototype 2" being shown at Austin, and Elon's tweet about driving the truck around in Texas gave everyone high expectations that the ER would...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

It's going to be really interesting to see GM and Ford's earnings calls. GM's plan to "overtake" Tesla is to build 1M EVs a year by 2025...which Tesla does...today. GM "leads EVs" and sold all of 26 last quarter. Investors have to be asking about that. And for both companies, they need to be...

Sry, my bad, I guess I misunderstood what you were saying.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I'm not sure I follow. GM and Ford's economy segment isn't where they make money. And (for some time anyway) they certainly won't with EVs in that segment, since they don't have the technology (4680 cells or better) to do so. Ford has to hope, desperately, that they can spin up Lightning...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Funny, but that struck me as well. When you hear Elon talk, he knows technical details and status of nearly everything, battery tech, AI, FSD, auto manufacturing, status of Optimus robots, solar, SpaceX, Starship/Super heavy, Starlink. Saw an interview with him walking through Starbase and...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Competitors have to recognize that TSLAs EPS was up 217% YoY, they have a 29.4% gross margin on autos, sales up 70% and 4680 cells and structural battery packs, which they don't have, are real. And TSLAs manufacturing capacity is more than doubling with Austin and Berlin (granted ramping...

    FINALLY! Way Points Coming!

I couldn't tell from the way he responded if he was joking and they had been in the works, or if this was him relenting. I like the guy's sense of humor...but sometimes can't tell if he's joking or not.

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

No, it was a good anecdote! I have NO issue with what VW did with their diesels. The EPA wrote the test and mandated that the vehicle pass that specific test, period. VW did exactly that! They shouldn't have been punished because the useless bureaucrats at the EPA suddenly decided that their...

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

My apologies if I missed it. My point was, until that happens, EVs with a longer range bridged that gap or "dead zone" between charging infrastructure.

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

So some of the manufacturers are manipulating their vehicle's performance to meet the EPA test standards, while not doing so in the real world? Seems like VW got caught doing something similar not so long ago.

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

No, but you just did. As you said, the charging infrastructure isn't available right now to accommodate the current crop of BEVs range. I used one of the BEV-focused trip planners to check some of my popular scenic routes in my area. They kept coming back with a negative reserve number...

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

I'm not sure that would have been necessary. The Lucid is still a pipe dream. It's where the S was....11-12 years ago-not even on the market. And the company is more where Tesla was in 2007-8, with no proven production facilities, no sales/support infrastructure, no skilled production...

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

As someone that owns stock, I'm glad to see it. Plus was an ego-booster that likely would never be profitable, but would suck up design, engineering and production resource, and create more model proliferation and stress on the supply chain. Personally, I'd rather see them work on getting the...

Switching from Jeep Grand Cherokee to Model Y Performance - Ground clearance issues?

That's an issue I have with Tesla referring to the Y as a "SUV". The U part of that is utility, and implies some degree of off-road capability. It's a hatchback, not an SUV, in my mind. Not that that's a bad thing, I'd still like one.

Depreciation on older ('14-15) S over the next 5 years?

OK, I must be dense-how do I edit an existing post? And while we're at it, how do you "like" or thumbs up someone's post? OK, back to the car-are Tesla service parts being sold at your local auto parts stores, like every other vehicle? Seems like they would be by now.

Depreciation on older ('14-15) S over the next 5 years?

Other than the battery, what other components are in the $20K range? I do agree part prices for Teslas are utterly stupid, and very much a rip-off. Seems like I read about $1700 half shafts and $1200 tail lights. But as far as the ICE comparison, what's a transmission run in one of these new...

PANO ROOF: MORE DIFFICULT THAN LANDING ROCKETS?

And yet, AFAIK, no one else in the industry has a chronic issue with a sunroof.

No more radar means the car cannot see through fog?

That's what I've been curious about as well-and haven't been able to find an answer for. I'd THINK IR would be involved, if nothing else than for seeing pedestrians, animals, or other threats at night. But I haven't been able to verify that.

Depreciation on older ('14-15) S over the next 5 years?

Thanks for the info and feedback. I had read of some common failures (door handles!) and unfortunately displays. Have battery failures and drive motors been a major issue? The battery price is pretty insane, but if it's very rare, or if Tesla "mans up" and helps out it might make it worth the...

Depreciation on older ('14-15) S over the next 5 years?

Hi All. I'm a recent convert to being a Tesla fanboy, though I don't have one at this time. I'm not economically in a position to buy new, mid $30K range is about it for me. So...I'm seeing quite a few 14-15 model S cars in this price range, including some dual-motors (which I'd prefer for...
