The Resurrection of the Montgomery Mall (Bethesda) Supercharger

There is a proposed SC in downtown Bethesda on the 2018 map. This would be a separate site and warrants its own thread. If we want to use an existing thread, I’d recommend the one for the original two-stall charger.

DCUSA in Columbia Heights is one location. I haven't heard about a location in downtown proper yet. Thanks for the intel, Robin. That location would be immensely helpful for the return leg of round-trips to Shenandoah or wineries.

Is that payment required if you remain in the vehicle? That's the pressing question for me, as I'll be relying on this charger heavily.

    New DC Metro Supercharger Plans-2018

I'm sure they can install a signal repeater for cellular access. DCUSA is a good location -- there aren't any other large, cheap garages with spare capacity in uptown DC. I've never seen this garage fill up. The first floor, yes, but not the whole thing.

2017 Supercharger Plan: New Chicago city location?

As a former Chicago resident, I applaud the siting of this charger. As Tesla states, the point is to enable urban EV ownership. It's smart to locate these SCs in common-access garages in high-density, affluent neighborhoods with high potential Tesla market share. They're better suited for their...

    Supercharger - National Harbor, MD

You're right about traffic congestion. That right turn onto Waterfront sometimes takes forever. For off-peak travel, the location is quite easy to get to. Tesla owners supercharging may be offered a waiver on parking fees, such as occurs at the Savannah airport location. I strongly disagree...

West Virginia Superchargers (location speculation, discussion)

Tamarack Plaza has a Ruby Tuesday's. My spidey-sense says it's most likely to be at the restaurant, given the chain's agreement with Tesla.

The Seattle Area Needs More Superchargers

An oligopoly can be an inefficient market; thus far, it's been full of half-assed charging equipment and compliance-mobiles. Just as Tesla catalyzed the electrification of cars, Tesla will catalyze the electrification of fueling. Tesla SCs are the only competent DC fast chargers in use, and by...

The Seattle Area Needs More Superchargers

The purpose of SCs will change over time. As a city-dweller, I'm constantly amazed at the one-sided arguments presented by suburban homeowners with their own private garages. Over half of Americans (and even more Europeans or Asians) don't live like that. I and many others would be willing to...

    Supercharger - Woodbridge, VA

Woodbridge is "bad" because Tesla navigation tells you to take Prince William Parkway and Telegraph Road, which adds 10-20 minutes round-trip. Going southbound, the charger is 3-5 minutes from the freeway via the Dale City exit, and going northbound the freeway is 3-5 minutes from the charger...

    A Sad Parting - 2014 P85 - $53,990+

Dear friends! I'm now in an urban living situation where owning a car is no longer practical. I've had a lovely time being part of the TMC community and the Tesla family, and have enjoyed spreading the good news of EVs to thousands of friends and strangers. Also, there's nothing quite like...

    Charging-friendly apartments in DC?

DC proper has limited charging options. The only publicly available chargers other than eVgo are: (1) one Chargepoint stall at 14th & U, which is almost always taken (2) four Chargepoint stalls at Canal Park in the Navy Yard area Many downtown garages have chargers but you'd pay an arm and a...

    Charging-friendly apartments in DC?

As a DC resident, I highly recommend a CHAdeMO adapter and an eVgo subscription. The Giant at 7th and P has two CHAdeMO stations and two hours of free parking with validation. No store purchase required. My apartment, Capitol Park Plaza, has 110V outlets in its underground garage. I get most of...

That's a brilliant idea, and I bet Tesla plans to do exactly that. Alternatively, S/X would continue to receive free charging whereas M3 would be on a subscription model. They could license supercharger usage to non-Tesla vehicles as well. For EVs to be practical for urban populations, there...

Agreed. It's more sensible to do this on a case-by-case basis. I enjoy being a brand ambassador; at this point, I've driven about 10,000 people, most of whom were previously unfamiliar with Tesla. You can see the locations on Plugshare. I have an NRG eVgo membership. It costs me $9 for 200...

As an Uber driver myself, I know about the culprits. Look for Virginia plates LTS1 and LTS2. Those cars are owned by someone who hires drivers to drive for Uber. I don't use the Bethesda SC now that Chademo charging is available (I did use it frequently prior to that).

Supercharger - Bethesda, MD (Permanently Closed, Oct 2016)

CHAdeMO is risky as well. Those chargers are single-unit and frequently occupied. They also take forever - at full power, they're often slower than a shared SC cabinet. There is no good solution other than building a full-sized SC in the vicinity. The DC region, with its unique highway layout...

    Supercharger - Norfolk, VA

As someone who frequents VA Beach for business, I second your approval. This station is centrally located and facilitates far more trips than just people heading down 64 from Richmond. The area is not that bad compared to, say, downtown Macon.

BWI Rail Station Charging - 16 Hour Limit

What If You Don't Have A House?

    Maryland Superchargers

I use EVGo stations frequently and will say that they're underwhelming. They're single stall stations with frequent failures and a 30-minute timer that forces you to restart charging each time it runs out. If someone's already plugged in... good luck. :/

Supercharging - Elon's statement that Daily Supercharging Users are Receiving Notes

You're right about the Bethesda supercharger. I stopped using it as soon as the CHAdeMO adapter came out. With the penetration of CHAdeMO charging in most cities, there is no longer a good reason to hog the local Superchargers, even for apartment dwellers such as yours truly.

Are 60 kWh owners going to be abandoned with future Superchargers?

We're still a long way from having a shared SC cabinet putting out too much power for a 60 to handle. That'd be something like a 200kW cabinet.
