Poll: Do You Plug In Every Day (for daily driving, home charging)?

I plug in my 2021 MY every time I park it in the garage, mostly to build the habit......That way I won't be in bed when I suddenly realize that I hadn't plugged in my car one night and I have several hours of driving the next day. My daily use ranges from 15% to 70%, but every time I use it...

Anyone use the OEM front license plate holder?

My front plate was stuck on my MY with very strong double sided tape when I got it......Not strong enough to survive an unfortunate wildlife encounter, so I had to replace my plates. I got a front plate holder from Amazon and it's working well. Yes, it blocks a bit of the airflow, but not...

    Punctured tire/question

Depending on where the screw is. I have a kit in my car, but it won't help in some locations.

    Laptop tray - any opinions?

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Ioniq 5 road trip impressions

They are also separate on the Tesla -- TACC, traffic-aware cruise control, slows (and stops) in response to the speed of the vehicle ahead, and is unrelated to the posted speed limit. In my MY, it's one pull down on the right stalk. When in "Autosteer" (two pulls down on the right stalk), it...

Anyone in Hurricane country or anywhere else concerned with having both cars be electric?

I think electric cars do better in tough situations like that than ICE cars do.
  7. C

    battery drain airport parking

Or invest in a tiny, portable lithium battery booster, like those from Noco, and stash it in your frunk. Safer and faster than waiting for someone willing to jump start your car.

Need to replace my all season and snow tires , what are folks using in Canada?

I get my Nokian Hakkas at Kal Tire. I got a flat driving over some metal in my driveway and they replaced it for free (I swapped it for an all season at home for the drive into their shop).

100% or 80%.... myth?? [preparing for a road trip]

No problem - I do it before road trips all the time (but only for road trips). It cuts down on the time (and cost) I have to spend at the Supercharger along the way.

Did you own any other brand of EV before getting a Tesla?

I had a Nissan Leaf for a couple of years before buying my 2021 MY........it was my first EV, and it was terrific. If I hadn't had a life location change that required greater range, I would have kept it, and I recommend it to anyone who rarely uses a car outside of city commutes and errands.

Need to replace my all season and snow tires , what are folks using in Canada?

Hi have a 2021 MY; I use Hakkapeliittas for winter, and I just replaced the original Continentals with Pirellis this spring (108,000 km).

Model S - Front Plate Adhesive

I lost my front plate in an unfortunate encounter with wildlife. Before I got replacement plats, I bought a plate holder that attaches to the grill under the nose of the car. Looks fine, seems secure, no problems...

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

I bought the car knowing it too, but that doesn't mean I like it......it just means I thought the pros outweighed the cons when I considered the car.
  14. C

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

It's infinitely configurable to Tesla, which means that they can make it worse as well as make it better, and that's not good. If it was configurable by the end user, I'd probably feel differently, because then I could configure it so the controls I most want accessible are easier for me to...

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

Wow, thanks for that clip - I have no memory of there being a screen in cars back then (and I would have been in my 20s).

    From Y to Audi e-tron: a Comparison

This would be a huge deal for me. After 2 great one-pedal driving cars (Leaf, now MY), I'm pretty sold on it. I will say that the charging changes will make a huge difference when it comes to shopping for my next EV (my current car is a 2021 MY).
  17. C

Are you paying for premium connectivity?

Ahh, I wonder if that's why sometimes a voice command won't work, but will work a few minutes later. There are some cellular dead zones near where I live (and nav connectivity doesn't work either).
  18. C

    Reverse The Uncomfortable Front Headrest

Yes, which is why I won't adjust mine -- but my issue is cosmetic (I messes up my long hair, and it gets in the way of a ponytail, so I have to use a topknot). If my issue was literally the ability to sit comfortably while driving, I can see it would be a deal breaker for me and I too might...
  19. C

    Autopilot warnings

Yes - even looking at the screen to confirm it's engaged is enough to get nagged at. It's kind of weird though, because it doesn't nag me if I remove my hands from the wheel and wave them in the air (yes, I've tested it), but if I flick a look at the screen, I get nagged at.
  20. C

Are you paying for premium connectivity?

That doesn't require premium connectivity. My nav system has rerouted me in those situations......I don't know why it rerouted me (unless/until I look it up later), but it does it.

    Santa icon won't go away

That didn't work either, so I did a reboot from the steering wheel buttons, and I got rid of the Santa/sleigh icon.
  22. C

    Taiga snowmobiles.....anyone have one?

I should add my sister has her Taiga (not a cybertruck) and is very happy with it so far.
  23. C

    Santa icon won't go away

I can't turn Santa Mode off, in the sense that I can't change the icon back to my car and I can't get rid of the jingle bell sounds when I activate a turn signal. When I go to the ToyBox, there's no slider or anything to turn off Santa mode - just a touch square that looks dulled, as if it's...

My car lost Wifi connection (Starlink)?

I don't know how to delete this question, but it all came back as mysteriously and suddenly as it disappeared.
  25. C

My car lost Wifi connection (Starlink)?

It's not just my car, but also my other connected devices (door lock, generator, thermostat).......they were all fine and connected to my Starlink Wifi until sometime this week. I haven't moved my modem, and my phone and desktop computers are still connecting to WiFi. My 2021 MY can still see...

    Turning radius

I agree the turning radius sucks. It's one of the things I wish I could change about the car (not the software), but the pros still greatly outweigh the cons.

How often do you use a Supercharger?

When I first got my car, I did a lot of 350 km trips to the cottage and often made a stop at the Supercharger in each direction (always stopped in winter)......now that I sold the cottage, I really only use it when I go to visit more distant family or friends about every other month. My "Charge...

Another Tesla Y owner opened mine with his phone

I accidentally opened someone else's MY that happened to be parked behind mine on the street and was the same colour as mine. I left them a note on their dashboard, and started using the PIN to drive option because of that. If I could do it to them, someone else could do it to me...

    Supercharger voting results

Yup - I voted for Newmarket, but one further up the east side of Lake Simcoe would be great, near Beaverton/Kawartha Lakes area would be great. Washago would be OK too.

What new Supercharger site do you want the most? Supercharger voting 1Q2024

I had no idea this existed......I'll be happy to vote every quarter now.

Car won’t unlock unless app is open?

Not if you want to open your door with a card key or fob. If you want to use the app, your phone must be on (with Bluetooth connection on), but not necessarily awake.
  32. C

Time of Use and Cold Weather

Another option is to set charging to start some time in the middle of the night........My TOU peak period ends at 9 pm, but my car doesn't start charging until 3 am. It takes usually 2-3.5 hours to charge back up to 80%, but it's still ready for me to leave for work the next morning. Unless...

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

You wouldn't want to, but what do you do if the voice command doesn't work (as it sometimes doesn't)? Or if you're driving back from the dentist and half your mouth is still frozen and your speech is slurred? What if you use an incorrect word or phrase because you haven't memorized the exact...
  35. C

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

Maybe, but that has nothing to do with touchscreens in cars.........using an iPhone is not the same as driving a 2 ton vehicle at 70 miles an hour on a crowded highway. Tablets haven't replaced laptops (let alone desktops). I'm sure I can come up with other examples where one size does not...

Ontario overnight ultra low rate announced

True for many people.......That's why there are multiple rate plans. One size never fits all. That's a feature, not a bug.

    All Weather Mats

I haven't had any bleed through with Tuxmat; I tried the Maxpiders first but found them slippery when I had snow on my boots, and that's the opposite of what you want a mat to do. I also tried Weathertech and found the fit (MY) was never right and it curved inwards against my leg.

Anyway to turn off radio etc when opening the door?

Sucks for people sitting in the car when the driver jumps out grab a coffee.
  40. C

New Model Y…going away for 3 months

If it's in a garage (not outside), then plug it in, and set the charging level to about 60%,. If you can't plug it in, be sure to turn off Sentry and cabin climate control, because those will eat up your battery power. You'll still lose a bit of power over 3 months to battery maintenance...
  41. C

New EV owner: how do you prepare for unusual situations?

You may be able to secure to the car in a way that you can get to it if the car is dead - I have one stored behind the tow hook cover. That's also where the wires are to pop the frunk open. I have a battery booster in my frunk (I have a 2021 MY, and fortunately haven't yet had to use it).
  42. C

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

I'd never driven a roundabout until I rented a car for a road trip in New Zealand, but now I see them popping up here in more and more places. I love them.
  43. C

I continue to be amazed at the hatred for EVs

I think of those images often as well. A good reminder of the negative effects of ICE vehicles and plants/factories that we often forget about.
  44. C

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

Exactly - nice if you want to use them but there will be a lot of times/situations/people where they won't work.
  45. C

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

Yup, which means we need to look at it more often, which isn't an advantage. I shouldn't have to look at the screen at all while I'm driving. Ever.
  46. C

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

And every touchpoint on a screen is a potential failure point......they rely on dry, bare fingers, a steady touch, and a precise touch that requires looking at the screen.
  47. C

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

No, not really - and I almost didn't buy one because of it. I miss dials more than buttons, frankly, whether for HVAC or volume control. I think things now are OK, but I still wish there were less things on the screen and more tactile things that I don't have to look at. I agree that voice...

    Ah, sorry, I misunderstood.
  49. C

    Scheduled Departure Charging is Early?

I thought you said it was 15 minutes early. Now I'm confused. My preconditioning is ready 15 minutes (precisely) early, and always has been.
