Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

I find this thread very interesting; It seems that if this was an ICE BMW, MB, Lexus. etc, etc....those with this problem would be all over the dealer for repair time table, a loaner car, and most importantly some type of compensation, especially in this price range....no? So where is the...

Want MY from Austin not Fremont

The other factor is production variability from Texas. My guess is that there may be quality issues as they ramp up and deliver cars, as they make more cars (as in other factories) their quality should improve....maybe.

    Ordered MY, second thoughts

I also am in my early 70s and want to 'taste the future' before I am, err....too old. I have test driven the MY, Mach-e and ID4. The MY is clearly the future given the minimalistic interior/controls. It may be a bridge too far for some, but I will say it was a lot of fun to drive. The lack of...

Vision cruise control isn't usable (video)

Actually, FWIW it all comes down to expectations. With 'dumb' cruise control your expectation is that you must watch the traffic, road, etc just like you are in total control (this is not a bad thing). We have been 'conditioned' to some extent that the car will do things that it is not yet...

Vision cruise control isn't usable (video)

Just for reference, I owned a 2015 Subaru Outback with the then optional 'Eyesight' cruise control. You set the speed and how many car lengths and engage. If the car in front of you stopped, so did you. My point is this is not advanced rocket science; other manufacturers have this nailed years...

Help me decide: Model Y or Mach-E

Regarding software, I read somewhere that Ford outsourced SW development, as opposed to doing it in house. Given the complexity, variability and supportability, it seems that that might have been a mistake.....

Font size and level of detail on screen

Being an individual in my early 70s, and having lenses installed so that my far away vision is excellent; the tradeoff is close vision. It seems that much of the screen is a bit blurry. Is there an adjustment to increase the font size? Or perhaps a utility to magnify the screen? I suspect not...

    Windows on Model Y

Is a glass roof sun shade available that just covers the area over the driver and passenger seats, and leaves the rest open? Thanks.

Help me decide: Model Y or Mach-E

An ancillary question regarding price changes and ordering. It is clear if someone placed an order at price x, and two weeks later the price became x+, when that person received his car he would pay price x, no? Well if that same person place an order for price x, and two weeks later the price...

Help me decide: Model Y or Mach-E

If I may, I would suggest creating a decision matrix on a spreadsheet with all the factors that would affect your decision, including the emotional. Each day look at the spreadsheet and move factors up or down the list for each vehicle. After some time (for you to determine) the list will sort...

Help me decide: Model Y or Mach-E

Thank you for the reply; yes, I have read some on the voice commands...I have had that function on other cars with less than stellar results. Is the system in the MY any better?

Help me decide: Model Y or Mach-E

This statement is true; my own perspective is that there are features in the Teslas that I do not want or need (e.g, games, movies, farts), and I am not sure I am comfortable, after driving for upwards of 50+ years that I want to have to learn where all the buttons on the touch screen are (like...

Tesla Shop - Unresponsive to emails at their email address

Wow, I guess the moral to this story is never to buy anything from the Tesla online store......yikes.

    Test ride today....

You cannot turn off the regenerative braking? Really? I seem to recall her showing me three buttons on the screen that I though adjusted it in some way....

    Test ride today....

Well, took my first test drive in the MYLR today. I arranged it so that the only extra function was regenerative braking. I just wanted to get the feel of the car. And, well the feel was pretty good; I had read about harsh ride, but at least this drive didn't really show that. I will take it...

Saw this mentioned in a couple of videos; I wonder if there is any chance for '22.

    Considering a Model Y

Ok, but what if their intended market is folks who don't necessarily care about 0-60 or cornering performance? What if they care more about comfort, a quiet cabin, and (I don't know) other stuff?

    Considering a Model Y

FWIW, I just viewed a video about the soon to be available in the US Audi Q4 in a few flavors. It clearly is going in the more traditional style with lots of buttons and switches, and it is utilizing the VW drive train. Not a bad looking vehicle though; my feeling is that its targeted at a older...

    Considering a Model Y

Regarding battery charging, I have a perhaps a dumb question: when charging is the 12v battery also charged? Or must the car be moving? There must be a DC-DC converter somewhere in the car to eliminate the need for an alternator...yes?

    Genesis GV60

I must agree; even with the added motor it is, well less sluggish. That being said perhaps their target market might not care about acceleration....think original beetle.
  22. E

    Genesis GV60

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the Mach-e have a rotating dial gear selector?
  23. E

    Genesis GV60

Q4 seems like a very nice car; the issue for me is the range: 241 mi on the AWD version. Other than that seems to have all the bells and whistles.
  24. E

    Genesis GV60

..and there is the Polestar 3 coming as well...I believe about the same price range as the GV60 and the GV70(?) Not to mention the Audi Q4 50 AWD - going to be lots of choices next year.

    Considering a Model Y

Interesting thread: I am also in the research mode. Having taken the MYLR, Mach-e and ID.4 for test drives, there are clearly compromises to be made. I didn't seem to mind the single large display in the MY, but I was surprised with the fairly harsh ride in an SUV. The Mach-e rode better but a...

    Ride Comfort Improvement

Hmm, I am considering the MYLR among other EVs and I must say that the one trepidation I have is the ride quality. Has anyone heard of any potential factory remedy coming, or will it be on the individual to find one?

    The Tesla Buying Experience

Interesting perspective; I have read that it is recommended a day or two before delivery (you will have VIN) to walk around and identify any issues that need to be addressed and documented.

If you HAD to convince someone to not get a Tesla, what would you say?

Actually, I currently drive a 300GLC small SUV, and its a great car...I can understand why its MBs best seller. Its best characteristic is how it rides..just can't beat it....so when I took a MY for a test drive I was not ready for the quality of the MY's ride.....can't have it all.

If you HAD to convince someone to not get a Tesla, what would you say?

What is surprising is as I read through the above suggestions, only one person mentioned the harsh the ride quality. It seems that there are quite a few threads on this forum about what shocks, springs, etc, etc to get to improve the ride.....wonder why....a disconnect?

PROS/CONS - what makes you love your Tesla?

This is the reason I am hesitant; I did take a test drive in a MYLR dual motor with 19" wheels a few months ago, and was completely surprised how harsh the ride was. Yes, the vehicle handles well, but if I wanted a sports car I would have kept my M240xi. I really hope that they address this. Why...

PROS/CONS - what makes you love your Tesla?

Interesting thread. If I may, the one characteristic of the MY that I have read about is the ride quality. During my test drive I noticed it was quite harsh, but at the time thought it might have been me. What do you guys think?

Model Y vs Mustang Mach E

I totally agree; Ford knows that they have significant catch-up to do. The good and bad news is that they have 100+ years of experience = inertia. They don't have the 'luxury' of starting with a clean slate; they must overcome tons of NIH mentality and too much in the parts bin that 'always...

    Are Service Centers Competent?

Interesting thread, but I have to say when you are spending what it takes to purchase....say a MYLR, you should expect the same level of quality and service if you purchased any other luxury SUV. That certainly should be the goal, and no excuses. And if there is a gap (and lets be clear, there...

Tesla Claims Warranty is Void Due to Aftermarket Puddle Lights

Thanks for the reply; Yes, I did see Sandy's video, actually many of them. You also know that he is Tesla biased; he has stated that several times, so while I enjoy and find his engineering based analyses useful, his perspectives are 'unfortunate.' It is clear that Tesla is several generations...

    Are Service Centers Competent?

New member here, Hi.... So I am just starting to research an EV and am interested in the MY or forgive me, the Mach-e. One area that is of a concern regarding Tesla products is service. From what I have read elsewhere it really depends on the specific service center - some are competent; some...
