    GPS drift after supercharging

I’ve not had this issue, but I might have an explanation for part of it. My understanding is that if the car is not getting good results from the GPS, it uses dead reckoning to compute where it is. This is normally useful when going through a tunnel or other locations where you cannot get good...

This Latest Attempt to Force FSD Upon Everyone is Hurting the FSD Cause More Than Helping

I too miss the TACC mode of FSDb 11. As you point out, there are several use-cases for FSD without auto steering. As others have suggested, this probably got removed due to the confusion some people had when overriding FSD via the steering wheel left you in TACC mode. (I confess this happened to...

This Latest Attempt to Force FSD Upon Everyone is Hurting the FSD Cause More Than Helping

I suspect there is some confusion because there are two modes referred to on TMC as “TACC”. There is the TACC you can select directly from the Autopilot settings. This one does not handle stop signs or lights. The other TACC is the portion of FSD you used to be able to turn on with a single pull...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I’m not sure about the need for thousands of good examples. I have no machine learning training, but I read a paper referenced here a while ago that might be relevant. The paper was about correcting errors in LLMs ([2401.07526] Editing Arbitrary Propositions in LLMs without Subject Labels). The...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

My observation is that it sometimes/often takes a long time to acknowledge a change in torque. More precisely, it sees the change in torque right away, but doesn’t cancel the blue pulsing until sometime later. So, you think the car didn’t notice your response and you try harder or in a different...

    Waymo

I’m not sure about this. In general, the length of the yellow is based on the speed limit. Higher speed gets longer yellow. There are some smart traffic light controllers around here that change the duration or order of the green lights, but I haven’t noticed any changes to the yellow durations.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

What I remember, but could not find a reference, is that if you cannot fit into the marked turn lane, you must proceed straight and try again at the next intersection.

I wondered about this because, In CA, you can cross single white lines, however

    Fixing Maps

This is consistent with what we have been told: Tesla uses one set of maps for the display, but different maps for driving. One feature I would like is the option to display the driving map, rather than the pretty map.

Is my beloved 2018 LR Model 3 turning into a maintenance $$$$ nightmare?

I got RCM_a056 after I left the car windows vented while it rained. The error went away once the inside dried out. Give it two weeks and see if the error goes away.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

The California Drivers Handbook says: Driving in a roundabout: • Slow down as you approach the roundabout. • Yield to pedestrians and bicyclists crossing the roadway. • Watch for signs and/or pavement markings that guide or prohibit certain movements. • Enter the roundabout (heading to the...

    FSD Beta v11.x

FWIW, On at least some versions of MacOS, the auto reboot at the end of an update resets less than a normal reboot. So, I’ll continue my superstitious extra reboot after an install. :)

Am I the only one bothered by this?

Is there any evidence Tesla currently monetizes the data they collect? Also, I think the people rating Tesla in the original post did not understand what Testa will do if you ask to be deactivated. My guess is that Tesla simply deactivates the cellular access associated with the car’s SIM, in...

    Disable FSD

My understanding, from what I have read here on TMC, is that there are still physical connections for the steering wheel and brake pedal. Thus, with enough force, the human could override the computer assists. I believe this changes for the CyberTruck, which is steer by wire.
  15. D

    FSD Beta v11.x

It could be both hardware and software. According to an article on notateslaapp from May, Tesla switched from using just a front camera to detect rain to using all cameras. Thus, now if there is something fishy with any camera (e.g. condensation, dirt), the new software might think it’s raining...

    Auto Lane Change

I think the OP is reading the phrase “Model 3 does not detect …” as a statement of fact, rather than a condition to be (negatively) detected before lane change is permitted.

    v11.4.7 (2023.7.30) auto-wipers seem drastically worse

This change doesn’t make sense to me. I can see using all the cameras to decide if it is raining. However, the wipers can clear only the front cameras‘ views. So, if there’s something on the B pillar or backup cameras, running the wipers isn’t going to help. I wonder if people with wipers...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I’m going to play devil’s advocate here. I grabbed the transcript of the deposition and read the part around the ODD question. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23574198-elluswamy-deposition-transcrip Right after the question/answer cited above, we have: Q. … During your time at Tesla...

    FSD Beta v11.x

I couldn’t find anything addressing this in the CA Driver Handbook, but such intersections usually have markings on the road to guide the lanes through the turns. The practice is that the leftmost turn lanes end up in the equivalent lane after the turn, but the rightmost of the left turn lanes...

    FSD Beta v11.x

FWIW, This is fine in CA. Left turning cars can turn to any lane on the new street (unless marked otherwise). Right turners must turn to rightmost lane.

Thoughts from a first time FSD Beta User: HW4

As a frequent pedestrian/cyclist, I also disagree, but for different reasons. I prefer the way I learned in Driver’s Ed: STOP at the white line or crosswalk. This is the law. If there are no markings, stop where they would be, which is often where the stop sign is. STAY stopped while you can...

Is all neural networks really a good idea?

It could work. Assume there are no perfect human drivers. And, assume the top human drivers don’t all have the same failings. Then, the specific failing of one subset of top drivers would be down voted by the more numerous remaining top drivers’ examples without that failing. The same thing...

    FSD 11.4.x experiences

I’ve run into this after updating to 11.4.4. And not just after a turn. Sometimes, but not always, if I goose the car because it is too slow accelerating after a stop, or if it slowed down when it didn’t need to, then it decelerates as soon as I let off the go pedal, and eventually accelerates...

Overheat protection not working US version

FWIW, Just one datapoint, YMMV, etc. I live in Silicon Valley and park my 2020 M3 in my driveway. At 1 PM today, the outside temperature was 90º F and the car reported an interior temperature of 134º. Cabin overheat not on. A short while after I covered the car with its Tesla outdoor car cover...

    Bikes crossing the road

FWIW, That’s what you are supposed to do in CA. From the DMV manual: ”Right turns–To make a right turn, drive close to the right edge of the road. If there is a bike lane, drive into the bike lane no more than 200 feet before the turn. …”

    Adequate Self Driving

Your comment kicked me into doing some more reading and I had a minor epiphany! There is no need for Tesla to invent a new format for the override files. The XML used by the OpenStreetMap project is perfect for this. Which means Tesla could use the libraries that already exist for reading OSM...

    Adequate Self Driving

I don’t think it is a lot of work, and would make me happier while waiting on a possible robust FSD. True, for popular locations. Not much use for less traveled rural areas. Also, makes the car more dependent on good networking. Do HD maps handle the weird school zone times? Desired slower...

    Adequate Self Driving

Robust Tesla self driving is years away, if ever. What could Tesla do in the meantime to make us happier? Currently, individual cars learn nothing from our interventions. Suppose there were a way to tell our car something we know but it doesn’t. I’m thinking of local-to-car map overrides that...

Just Drove My Model Y in Light Rain at Night for 1st Time with "Tesla Vision" (2022.36.6): Autopilot was **Unusable**

But you can compare human alone vs. human plus ADAS. That is, do the ADAS features make travel safer overall?

    Cabin Camera Blinded Error

I’m seeing an opportunity for someone to develop a Tesla-specific IR light source that plugs into a USB port and illuminates the driver. In the meantime, might something like this work? (The Q&A says it does emit a faint red glow.)...

    Autosteer would not disengage

Here’s my guess. Sometimes when I disengage AP via a drastic turning of the steering wheel, the wheel becomes stiffer to turn, until I re-engage. Suppose this happened to the OP, except the Tesla made steering extra, extra stiff. If he didn’t actually check the display, this might make it seem...

Can Tesla Data Help Us Understand Car Crashes?

I think you missed something: While the Acura was 1 stripe + one gap behind the Tesla at 00:04.35, both cars moved forward during the 0.61 seconds before the crash. So, the actual distance covered by the Acura during that 0.61 seconds was more (about double by my estimate). Also, to me, it...

FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

There is some evidence the new beta testers are helping. The release notes for 10.13 include (emphasis added): - Improved animal detection recall by 34% and decreased false positives by 8% by doubling the size of the auto-labeled training set. - Improved the "is parked" attribute for vehicles...

Lane change terminates mid way and feels dangerous

I had a problem with auto lane change until I learned that you have to push the turn stalk all the way to the second detent and release. Previously, I was just holding it down at the first detent. If I let it go too soon, the car would get confused, cancel the lane change, and ask for help...

Cabin camera soon to be required for all AP features?

Are you sure about this? A description of the Genesis system says, “A pair of cameras in the steering wheel tracks the driver’s eyes.” The fact that the cameras are most sensitive in the infra-red does not negate the fact that they are taking pictures. The important bit would be if the video is...

    FSD Beta 10.12

Sigh! In California, you must merge into the bike lane for a right turn (after the solid line turns to dashes). That way there is no confusion about who goes next.

    FSD Beta 10.12

Wild speculation here: I wonder if the red lights are LED. And, rather than being on all the time, they actually flash multiple times per second, fast enough that the eye sees them as continuous. However, if their flash rate is close to, but not exactly the same as, a multiple of the camera scan...

    Washing Model 3

I’ve wondered if Rain-X or similar products might confuse the auto-wiper function? That is, if raindrops slide off immediately, would the computer have trouble detecting rain?

    Nav display map orientation?

I like North up, but wife likes it the other way. For me, it just makes sense for the car to follow the route, rather than for the route to lead the car. It’s nice to have choices:).

Homelink Garage Door Button Locations - Left vs Right

I don’t have Homelink, so this is a guess—try removing both entries, then add them back in the order you want them to appear. This should work if adding a new entry just searches for the first empty slot.

    Autosteer/TACC false forward collision warnings

It could be just an artifact of how you took the picture, but it looks as if there is a swath across the middle of the image that is fuzzy. Is the same fuzziness there when you look at the front camera image directly? Perhaps you could manually clean the windshield where the cameras are located...

    Inappropriate slowing and navigation instruction

Looking at that intersection on Apple Maps, it appears there was construction there recently? The satellite view does not line up with the map view. Perhaps the Tesla’s map is out of date and the car is getting confused?
