Tax credit 2024 [The tax credit discussion thread]

Thanks for the info. I purchased a 2024 MY on 1/30/2024 and did receive the full $7500 point of sale (POS) credit. However, I also never got a 15400 form from Tesla so I guess I'll be contacting them. I agree you probably don't need to include it in your tax return, but we are supposed to get...

    2022 Model Y - USB Data Ports - USB-A Glovebox Only

Good point. I removed the USB stick and plugged it into a PC. It was somehow corrupted. I was able to repair it, copy back my music files, and put it back in the glovebox hub with the Sentry drive. Now the music is working. So my mistake. Hopefully it will keep working.

    2022 Model Y - USB Data Ports - USB-A Glovebox Only

I have a 2024 Austin built MYLR. I recently purchased a USB hub for the glove compartment and it was working fine with both Sentry and USB music devices plugged in. But now, the music USB is no longer being displayed under the streaming/sound options. I also rebooted the car with no change...

Trading in my M3 for MY - Sales process is a JOKE!

In my case, the points just showed up after I picked up the new Tesla MY. Similar to the OP, I was given a trade-in price by Tesla for my previous MY. The price was of course lower than I wanted, but I decided to accept it and I ordered a new 2024 MY from inventory that same day. The very...

USB Flash Drive for audio not recognized

I think it's this one and the photo is too dark to see the other two ports. This one has similar ports and is even smaller in size, though it doesn't have the matching surface.

    Homelink retrofit install failure

I haven't done a HomeLink install, but am thinking about doing one. In other HomeLink threads I've read that some installs did not work at first, but if you exit the car, close the doors, and re-enter, then the HomeLink icon pops up and everything works. Good luck!

    USB flash drives (music) HW4 v. HW3

Well, even though USB data has been removed from the center console, there is still the USB A port for Sentry/Dashcam in the glovebox where the hub was connected in the photo above. There must be a cable going to the glovebox USB port, so where does the cable come from? If we knew, perhaps...

When people say don’t leave your battery at 100% or under 10% for long periods of time

I charge almost always at home, generally to 80% unless I have a longer trip that day. I've heard you should occasionally charge to 100% in order to let the battery management system (BMS) balance the cell voltages (or groups of cells). Any comments if this is a good idea, and if so, how...

New Owner - Want New Tires

I had a 2022 MYLR with the Continental ProContact tires. I thought they rode and held up well, although I did feel and hear the cracks in the road. With the MY suspension being firm, it was hard to tell if the suspension or tires was more responsible In our Colorado snow (not a huge amount...

    USB flash drives (music) HW4 v. HW3

Back when Tesla first removed the data (late 2021 or early 2022) from the two USB C ports in the console, making them power only, it was believed to be due to the parts shortage. But since then Tesla has not restored the data connection and now, with HW4, it appears they are actively preventing...

    USB flash drives (music) HW4 v. HW3

Well, it looks like this will be more involved than I thought. I wanted to run a USB cable from a connection under the glovebox to the center console as described in this video (although the author did not correctly remove the four plastic pins): Installing USB cable video When I opened the...

    USB flash drives (music) HW4 v. HW3

I got a 2024 MY. As a quick experiment I unplugged the Tesla USB stick from the glove compartment and plugged in a different USB stick which just had music files on it. The USB drive does show up in my media options and I can play the music. So my experience is different from the OP. Maybe...

    trade in process

Here was my "trade-in" experience. On Sunday I requested a trade-in value for my previous Model Y. The offered price was OK compared to Carvana, but not great. I next ordered a new Model Y from inventory, applied that trade-in, and took photos of the car from the Tesla app (car is in...

Tax credit 2024 [The tax credit discussion thread]

Just to be clear, I have a couple of questions for someone who recently purchased. Is the $250 non-refundable reservation fee still credited back if you do purchase the car? It was when I last purchased a Tesla, although I did have to pay sales tax on the $250 since it was part of the purchase...

    Tesla SSD coming February 2023

If you want a spare USB flash drive for your Tesla, I see the Samsung Bar 128GB USB flash drive is now on sale for $14.99 at Amazon. I think it's the same as the rebranded Tesla drive which comes with the car and goes for $45 from Tesla. You can also get a 256GB version for $35.99. Samsung...

    Hurricane water causing fires

This story is all over the place but everything I find is about the same incident and the story appears to originate from Fox News or the NY Post. The video just shows a smoking car in Florida. The headlines mostly say "Fire" or "Exploding" EVs. It's not clear what made the Tesla smoke, and...

    2022 Model Y - USB Data Ports - USB-A Glovebox Only

Thanks for the link as well! I had previously installed the Tparts USB module and decided to try this one after my USB seemed to power off and on randomly after several months use (not sure of the cause since the power connector was installed tightly). Anyway, this module on Amazon is even...

    CCS Adapter - ?

I mostly charge at home and don't travel by road all that often. But getting the CCS1 adapter was a no brainer for me since our last trip would have been difficult without one because there were no Tesla Superchargers on the route and we would have had to spend hours extra charging on L2...

2022.20 Enables Green Light Chime Without EAP/FSD!

Sorry if I got that wrong. The ID.4 beeped when the light changed while test driving it and I assumed it was detecting a green light. Towing travel trailer with Model Y

I think a DC to DC converter should do the trick on newer Model Ys. Does anybody know how much current you need at 12V for the trailer? There are many DC to DC converters available and here is a "waterproof" one with adjustable voltage output (3V-15V) for $14 at Amazon: 12V, 3A DC to DC...

    CCS Adapter - ?

Yes, it will be interesting to see what states and the federal government do to make up for lost gas tax revenue as EVs become a larger portion of traffic on the roads. Tesla $7500 Tax Credit Coming Back?

I don't subscribe to wsj.com so I can't read the details about the statement that Tesla vehicles "likely wouldn't qualify for tax credits". The Tesla models manufactured in the US should at least qualify for a $3750 credit, half the maximum of $7500. The other half of the credit depends on...

Tesla $7500 Tax Credit Coming Back?

Will EVs which currently qualify for a $7500 tax credit but are not made in North America, such as the Ioniq5 / EV6, still qualify for the current credit after 2023 (if the new bill passes) assuming they still haven't sold the maximum number of vehicles (I think 200,000)? In other words will...

Anyone thinking about an VW ID.4 Instead?

Buying from tesla vs private seller

1 month old model Y hit by other driver, is it totaled?

So sorry to see that damage to your new Tesla!! I haven't gone through anything that extensive before but I think it would be best if the car were totaled and hopefully insurance would cover a new one. But that would also probably mean providing a rental for several months before you...

2022.20 Enables Green Light Chime Without EAP/FSD!

I think the green light chime is a great feature now that I have 2022.20.5 installed. I remember thinking it was a neat feature when I first noticed it while test driving an id.4 last year. If Tesla had offered it at a "reasonable" price like maybe $100, I'd have gone for it. It would be nice...

Parked at airport for 36 hours, lost 40miles of range

Will the Tesla stop using Sentry mode and climate overheat protection once the main battery charge goes below a certain percentage (say 20%) in order to avoid coming back to a car with no range left?
  37. P

    Best home charger?

That's why I said "maximum charging miles". To be more specific, I was referring to using the Tesla Mobile Connector with its 14-50 or 6-50 adapter on a 240V, 40 Amp circuit which allows it to provide 7.6 kW of power at 32 Amps to add 32 miles of range per hour of charge on a MY (per Tesla's...

    Curb Rash Repair

I also got the Zink repair kit and it worked great on my MYLR. Very easy to do as well. You can get your own materials for less, but I preferred the convenience of getting everything I needed all at once. The paint color could take longer to match and the Zink kit takes care of that without...

    Best home charger?

I'll agree the Tesla Wall Connector makes the most sense if you only plan to own Teslas. The Tesla Mobile Connector (which used to come standard with the car but now costs $200) also works well, but maximum charging miles for a Model Y drops from about 44 miles added range per hour of charging...

I'm not sure this helps the OP, but I got rear ended two days ago and it looks like I might face a diminished value claim as well. I have a 4 month old 2022 MYLR (5 seat with tow) and was hit from behind on a residential street while going 25 MPH. I was about to turn into my driveway and got...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

    CCS Adapter - ?

The CCS adapter being sold in Korea is a genuine Tesla adapter, if you were thinking otherwise... It also looks like Harumio redesigned the case to add a spot for the standard Tesla J1772 Level 2 adapter alongside the Tesla CCS adapter. Nice feature, but it looks like it makes the case maybe 3 inches wider than the previous version. Harumio currently sells the case for $45 (worldwide...
