What's everyones insurance renewals this year?

Last year (Bell): £514.08 no claims, accidents, or change in circumstances Renewal quote (Bell): £758.27 🙄 Best like for like I could find online via 3 searches was with DriveXpert : £666.41 Next stop in the morning is to see if Bell or my home insurers (Tesco) can beat that.

Zappi or Hypervolt for a solar home system ?

We've had a Hypervolt for over a year now. Happy to confirm that with that unit you'll get: Scheduled charge vs Plug and Charge 3 different charging modes (Boost - uses grid + solar, Eco - solar and as little grid power as possible, and Super Eco - solar only) Wi-fi connectivity Customised...

    Software update - frozen

I had this too with the last but one update. Kept sticking at 50% and couldn't get it to download any further despite multiple restarts (hard and soft). The resolution in the end was to rename my home wifi network at great annoyance to all my other devices and then reconnect the car's wifi to...

    aero alternatives?

I picked up the Orbitals from Rimetrix too - super happy with the black-on-black look we've got now on our M3. Cost was approx £220 + shipping/customs (about £70 in total). I have also made a short video on what these are like to unbox/install/close-up but won't post the link - happy to share...

Model 3 bike rack (not roof or tow bar)

Yep, never selected the tow when I ordered as I only envisaged it being to, you know, tow things rather than hold things! I never thought about the sensors. Of course. I’ll look into roof racks.

Model 3 bike rack (not roof or tow bar)

Interesting. Much of an effect on range?

Model 3 bike rack (not roof or tow bar)

I’ve seen a few M3s around with bike racks on the roof and also the ones that strap to a tow bar. I’m wondering if anyone has tried this type of solution with their M3 and what brand you’d recommend if so?

Disney + login - Black screen

I often find several of the apps (sentry viewer, YouTube and also Disney+) are incredibly laggy. I’m on the latest OS and also in a good mobile reception area but I timed how long it took from pressing the icon to opening sentry viewer/dashcam today. Over 30 seconds. 1st world problems and all...

    Anyone else on ZapMap?

I’ve listed our home charger on ZapMap. Had a few people get in touch to charge- no problems whatsoever - they just paid the cost of their charge which was easy to work out from our Hypervolt app. I let one keep their car on the drive overnight at no extra charge as we live quite near the centre...

    Screen protectors: matte or not?

We installed the Spigen matte protector too. It definitely helps with reducing reflections at the expense of a smidge of clarity (nothing you'd really notice).

2021 MiC 18” Aero wheel colour?

Hiya - yep it all worked out. Bought the paint from here in the end- just the solvent was required. https://www.wheelpaints.co.uk/CAR-MANUFACTURERS-COLOURS/CAR-MANUFACTURERS-COLOURS/CAR-MANUFACTURERS-COLOURS-Q-Z/Tesla/TESLA-MODEL-3-AERO-ANTHRACITE-24-00-260.Html

    Curb rash!

No joke. I was reading this thread earlier whilst waiting in a car park and 5mins later when it came to pull away I curbed my passenger side alloy. Second time running for that one… 🤦‍♂️

    My first long trip

@Forty_Two thanks for posting. We've only managed two decent-sized roadtrips (i.e something over 100 miles one way) so far in our 6 months of ownership (thanks Covid!) and it's interesting to hear others' experiences. And yes, we curbed one of the alloys within a week of ownership (thankfully...

    Baby paraphernalia

We couldn't get any of the stick-on window ones to work due to the way the M3 doors drop when opening. So we just use the built-in shade that comes with the Britax RÖMER Baby Car Seat and that seems to do the trick. If you're crafty you can usually get a muslin involved to block out anything...

    Baby paraphernalia

We have the Onco mirror which works fine. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01FCMV5RM Sun shades are really tough to fit (or at least keep attached) due to the way the windows drop when the doors are opened. So even if fitted perfectly you’ll have a gap at the top/bottom to allow the window to...

    Black M3 LR 2021 paintwork

The frustrating thing was I was due to have a blue model but ended up having to take black in the end due to delays with the shipments last year.

    Black M3 LR 2021 paintwork

So we've had our M3 now for almost 6 months and I'm getting ready to post a review on what it's been like so far as an ownership experience. I have to say it's overwhelmingly positive and I only have a few minor niggles so far. One thing I've recently noticed is that our car seems to have...

    Controlling Tesla with a Mac

Yep, I was hoping the sentry viewer was smarter than just plugging in the key and then acting as a media manager. Hey Yep, think it’s £5 for a year or £25 for lifetime access. Not too bad really if it’s of use. I’m still playing with it.

    Controlling Tesla with a Mac

Hi folks - I've recently started using an app called Valet for Mac which allows you to control most features in your Tesla directly from a Mac toolbar. I'm in the process of writing a review but wondered if anyone else had experience of this and what you might use it for? It's very much a case...

    HyperVolt Charge Points [megathread]

Snap to all of this. Plus if you look at electrician’s recommendations they will almost always feature the HV - they don’t want to be installing something under warranty that’s going to cost them time to come back and repair time and time again. If it’s good enough for a sparky it’s good...

Which Phone Do You Use As A Key?

More and more often I find myself using my watch app (via Tessie/shortcuts) to open the car. I’ve had a few too many experiences where the card takes forever to register or my phone doesn’t pick it up.

    Tesla YouTubers

Hope you had an awesome collection experience! Spawnpoiint/Chris is one of my favourites too but I think he’s stopped making Tesla content for now (at least until his Model Y arrives later this year). I used his referral link and was one of the last to get some free referral miles when I...

Had something a little odd happen yesterday - took a trip over to my nearest supercharger to take advantage of some of my referral miles before they expire next month. Arrived with 8% battery😬 and topped it right up. However when I went to check the stats in my Tessie app the car had only...

    HyperVolt Charge Points [megathread]

Car Seats for kids (sorry, not the most entertaining thread to close 2021).

I bought a couple of these for £15.99 each. Good for picking up debris and general kid-related mess. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07Y5C9KCG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_N42C87HEFV48G65MYBFZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Car Seats for kids (sorry, not the most entertaining thread to close 2021).

We’ve been using a Joie Bold and a Britax Baby Safe I-Size. No issues with either. Top tip (especially if you’re on a lease) - these heavy child seats can damage the ‘leather’, so worth spending £15-20 on some seat protectors to sit between the seat and child seat.

Any experience renting out charger and driveway

I listed my home charger on Zap-Map and got a call a while ago from a guy on his way to York wanting to park/charge for the day. I gave him a price, agreed a time to meet but he never showed! Must have had a better offer.

    Tessie App

Yep, it’ll do that for you. You’ll need to set up a tagged location as ‘home’ and add your cost per kwh to the location. After you’ve done this it’ll show in the ‘Charging’ section. Using the Analytics feature you can filter by location and then choose what period you want to report on.

    Tesla app a bit rubbish?

Another vote for Tessie here. I’ve tried a few of the others and this one both looks gorgeous and captures all the data I’m interested in. The counterpart Apple Watch app is included in the subscription and works really well too.

How many people pay for Premium Connectivity?

Hang on. So if you have Spotify via Premium Connectivity, you don’t need to pay for Spotify any other way? But you do need an active Netflix account in order to watch it in Theatre mode? I was one of the last to get the 12 months free trial, and I see the PC fee as a kind of convenience cost...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Yep, I’ve been taking a reading when going to bed about 10/11ish and then when up with the kids around 6am. Most I’ve ever see over a 3 week period was a 3% drop and had several with no difference at all. Average was -1%.
  42. markgyork

    Battery Drain Overnight.

I ran some tests on my M3 long range over the last few weeks and rarely found more than 1% lost overnight. Even on a couple of sub-zero nights it was 2% at most. You don’t have Sentry switched on when parked at home do you? If that’s being triggered somehow in the night that might explain it..?

    Tessie App

I have been using Tezlab but the interface isn’t great so I’m giving this a go for a little while before I decide which stats/control app to settle on. Need something to satisfy my inner geek so thanks all for the recommendation.

1000+ miles of public charging - thoughts

Round these parts we see this a lot. Many public car parks offer free parking if you’re charging, so in a pinch it’s easy to pop over to a charger, hook up a cable, and you’ve got yourself a free parking space for as long as you’re there. Not saying I’d ever do this, but the system is set-up to...

Wow- great job. Out of interest did they add the colour code on any of the paperwork? Got a guy lined up to repair ours but the code Tesla gave me doesn’t match up with his paint database.

    M3 vs MY

I reckon the way to go there is roof box/rack. For less than £1K you'd have everything you needed ready to level up your storage on the odd occasion you'll need it. Those bags are really cool - not seen them before. I've been thinking about getting one of these frunk bags from Montrose though.

    M3P lease or pcp opinion

If the longest you've ever kept a car is 4 years, I would recommend looking at a PCH for the saving you'll make. If you can commit that level of deposit you might also be as well to look at a loan and buy the car outright for all the flexibility it'll offer over and above a PCP. Those lease...

    M3 vs MY

I think your dog is the dealbreaker here. The Model 3 would work for almost all your use cases but I don't think you could carry two kids, luggage and a dog safely - it's just not designed that way. Possible workaround....although I have no idea how safe/legal this would be - could you buy a...

Boot space including frunk. 425 or 542 litres?

That's essentially the argument I'm making in this video (theme is whether the M3 is a 'family car') - that it's less about the boot space but thinking creatively about the total amount of storage available in the Model 3. It's surprising really. Here's what I've worked out compared to our...
