Should I buy a Tesla as a first car?

@mobe88 "Should I buy a Tesla as a first car?" It doesn't matter what you buy as a first car! You can drive any car in a ditch or kill yourself (and others with it). It depends how you drive it. My daughter's first car had 600HP. The boys were making all sorts of fun, as in "too powerful", "you...

Anyone else bothered by EV noises?

And your point is? The S350 is significantly quieter, which also significantly reduces stress and fatigue levels. Given the M3 the same (or close) noise level and it would be the best out there. BTW: I now own a M3LR... and updated the graph. The cyan-coloured line is for this car... and it...

The Stealth Hitch is now complied in Australia thanks to TOCA!

You can buy a factory tow bar in the UK. The screen also has a "tow" setting. Not sure what the latter tweaks.

Model 3 charging: type 2 extension 11kW vs 22kW; what is the difference?

11kW cable on three phases each 16A = 11kW, only 3.5kW on single phase. 22kW cable on three phases = 11kW, only 7kW on single phase. Well, there is no doubt, the 22kW cable should be the default. Thanks... I ordered a 7kW, not understanding the 3.5kW limit... just changed the order to 22kW...

Model 3 charging: type 2 extension 11kW vs 22kW; what is the difference?

... this statement eventually clicked for me. Thank you. The onboard charger can do 11kW max. It is AC, so any adapter, cable and what no doing more is pointless, unless one converts a 'whatever' AC plug to the Type 2 connector. Single phase seems to be limited in AU to 32A, therefore, 7.68kW...

Model 3 charging: type 2 extension 11kW vs 22kW; what is the difference?

I am looking at getting a type two cable for my M3LR. I saw a Type 2 to Type 2 EV Charging Cable | 7kW/11kW and a Type 2 to Type 2 EV Charging Cable | 22kW. These look the same to me, as in plugs... and I assume the conductors might have a greater diameter?! If my assumption is correct, why...

Can you put the M3 into neutral when actually standing still and off the brake?

I tried to put the M3 into neutral to then push it by hand to a specific location to check the tire. I stepped on the brake to wake up the car, put it neutral, and when I got off the brake it switched to 'P'ark. Is there a way to keep it neutral? [sorry, can't fix the typo in the title]...

TeslaDrive for Sentry and music. What about video?

I bought a Samsung Portable SSD T7 500GB to replace the 128GB stick that came with my new M3LR, to a) have more space for sentry and also put some music on it. I read on this forum on how to set-up other media, format and name it. That process is clear. Here what the 128GB stick looks like...

Speed limit of 40 detected, missed detecting the 70; how to tell the car it is 70?

Hmm, sure, this works as cruise... though it reduces speed when sensing a lower limit. However, it does not speed up when sensing a higher limit. I tried it today: tapping the sensed limit on the screen will adjust the TACC to the higher limit.

    Jack pads in Aus

SuperCheap have 3t jack that is low enough to get under. I about that for my Merc S350, and used it today to lift the car on one corner to inspect a tire. https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/toolpro-toolpro-low-profile-garage-jack-3000kg/563849.html

Sure, but it is not the solution to the problem... :)

A FLAT should NOT be this difficult!

Don't be too hard on yourself. Firstly, you are right: it should not be hard at all to replace a tire. Secondly, you dealt with uninformed people, hence, do not expect a proper response or outcome. So, why take blame or blame Tesla for it? The blame lies with the shonks from those tire places...

Yes, just tried... this is how it works... it picks the first address listed under a contact.

Navigate to address book address, but shows only one of two addresses

Got my M3LR yesterday... have an iPhone connected to it, which shows the contacts and calendar on the console screen. However, when a contact has two addresses (e.g. work and home), it only shows one, the first one. Is there a way to fix this? In case it consistently shows only one address, I...

Autosteer maximum speed and automatic speed adjustment

I wondered about the same thing... did only 110 km (70 mi) today in my new M3LR with 80% hwy driving. Say with a 100km/h limit, AutoSteer stuck to 100km/h (but would not allow me to go over); but did not change speed up when previously reduced to say 80, 60... hence, I had to re-engage the...

Charge flipping between 1 and 2 kW; why?

Thanks for the good explanations... I thought this to be the case... This should make sense: we built a new triple garage with auto roller doors. The sparky will come soon to put some power points in, as well as connect the 7kW Zappi. ATM a 20A extension lead is in the garage, with a 10A power...

Charge flipping between 1 and 2 kW; why?

I got my M3LR today, and am charging it ATM. My Zappi will be installed soon. Until then I charge with the provided charger in the trunk. It is hooked up to a 10A socket, and should provide 2kW/h. While it has done this initially, it is now changing between 1 and 2 kW, and I do not understand...

    Tesla Model Y in Australia

I am sure about your doubt being honest, but where is the evidence other carmakers go that extra mile.History tells us that carmakers only implemented improvements based on consumer and regulatory pressures. Similar to emission targets, where carmakers still lobby today for lifting the limits...

TLDR the fine print: can you cancel your order at any time?

Yes, thanks... made the effort to read the fine print. For completeness sake, the relevant paragraph below (sourced on Oct 14, 2021 AEST) "Order Process and Cancellation: If you are purchasing a Used vehicle from Inventory or a registered demonstrator, where applicable, the existing...

    Tesla Model Y in Australia

Not sure what your problem is? You have choices. Why not go elsewhere, instead of ranting like child who cannot find its toy. Given the achievements of Tesla, I cannot agree with your claim where their heads are. The way you go on about it seems to confirm where yours is.

TLDR the fine print: can you cancel your order at any time?

Just ordered a M3, but really want a MY... which is not yet available in AU. The idea is to sell the M3 once the MY is being delivered in AU. Why? I need the expense this financial year, but cannot see the MY delivered in AU before the end of June 2022. I also see major delivery problems given...

Model 3 or wait for Model Y and other questions

I can relate to the pain WRT to waiting for a MY or buying a M3... but for other reasons. I can buy the car outright, but need to reduce my tax burden, hence, require the expense. With the diverse shortages, global supply chain issues, energy crisis, etc. plus the MY delivery in the US chaining...

Does a Tesla require servicing to maintain warranty?

Well, if it wasn't for COVID and working-from-home, I'd be driving 40,000 km per year. I rotate tires every 10,000 km and it pays, in particular when you can see how changing these effects tire wear, that is if you diligently record wear. The following graphs show two tires, both where on the...

    Tesla Model Y in Australia

All arguments regarding delivery in Q1 or not seem logical; the biggest uncertainty factor is the global supply chain and energy crisis in China and Europe; these will take time to recover from. Chip shortage will take until 2023 to ease. The US website now shows April 2022 for MY delivery when...

    Tesla Model Y in Australia

Not sure how the moderators work here, but this Ionic business is off-topic to say the least. Also, if you want to get sucked in with extra cost after purchase, buy anything but a Tesla. E.g. you can experience being charged for oil for your EV... ridiculous.
  39. Max_G

Does a Tesla require servicing to maintain warranty?

No idea... my assumption was there is none other than tire rotation, brake fluid and pads. I am glad this is the case with Tesla. It makes me sick reading things like this article "managing dealer bills for oil". another reason to stay far away form these legacy car makers.
  40. Max_G

Does a Tesla require servicing to maintain warranty?

Thank you; should have googled first; was just going to post the link. The short answer is: in principle "no", but for some support schemes a (I reckon a minimal) service is required.

Does a Tesla require servicing to maintain warranty?

Other EV manufacturers require servicing of the EVs at yearly interval or every 10,000 or 15,000km, with some at a significant cost. I intend buying a MY in AU once available. Does Tesla have a similar money-extraction scheme?

Car & Driver: The Mach E is simply better than the Model Y

What a topic! :) I don't care about other opinions. Each use case is different, hence, each car fits more or less each use case. If a MME is the thing for you, buy one and be happy, same applies, if a Tesla Y is your car, get one and enjoy. In any case, enjoy whatever you're driving.

Model Y test-drive experience (not a current Tesla owner)

@Tslgrl ... I am in the market for a Y though in Australia, where they are not available yet; drove a 3 for a week... and all I can say is: your experience is just that, yours. There are at least 1,000 car models to chose from, and all have 'fans'. The key thing to remember is: the Tesla is like...

Anyone else bothered by EV noises?

I am commuting 100km (62mi) one way every weekday. I get to and from work as comfy and quiet as it can get... in a Mercedes S350. While I have no experience driving a Model S, I assume it would come close, given its air suspension. I am soon retiring and have basically no need to drive anymore...

Does the Y reduce the speed when corner is approached too fast?

I currently drive a Mercedes S350, but am considering buying a Model Y once it hits Australian shores. It reduces the speed if it senses the corner speed is too high for the current drive mode (say comfort). For example: the cruise is set to 100 km/hour. The corner is comfortably taken at 95...
