    Electrify America general discussion

You can see in the video what is happening. The cable wouldn't click because of ice buildup. It is likely that moving the cable holder from the front to the side caused an increase in snow deposit. Electrify America probably need to install a cover above the cable holder.

What's going on with Francis Energy?

I have an update on this topic. Francis Energy is still planning to these DCFCs (at least in New Mexico), but the lack of transformers is causing delays.

    Electrify America general discussion

Electrify America said that it will replace 300+ chargers by the end of the year. That implies that Electrify America plans to replace more next year. Electrify America will be replacing all the non-CHAdeMO dispensers at each charging station that it is upgrading. Obviously, Electrify America...

harum.io is out of stock https://www.harum.io/products/tesla-ccs-combo-1-adapter-chademo-adapter and third-party adapters are potentially unsafe Your argument is a strawman. I said that 3rd party adapters are potentially unsafe, as in, they might not have gone through sufficient safety...

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

The Tesla Proprietary Connector (TPC) is proprietary. Tesla would have to license the TPC to the DCFC suppliers.
  13. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Read the FTC's example of Microsoft. Tesla makes it difficult to fast charge elsewhere other than the Supercharger. Yes, as you point out it is difficult, but not impossible. I could fly to South Korea to buy an official adapter or buy one of the potentially unsafe 3rd party adapters. I could...

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Example from the FTC's website: Also, Tesla bundles a navigation system in every (modern) Tesla vehicle that automatically navigates to the Supercharger instead of other fast chargers.
  15. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

If Tesla includes the CCS1 adapter with every North America Tesla vehicle, there wouldn't be a problem, but Tesla doesn't
  16. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Tesla doesn't sell the CHAdeMO adapter anymore in North America and it is limited to 50 kW, providing a sub-par experience. Tesla also doesn't sell the CCS1 adapter in North America. Then there are third part CCS1 adapters that may be unsafe to use. The FTC's website gives an example of...
  17. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Tesla has ~75% of the market share of BEVs: that's a monopoly. Now, it is not illegal to be a monopoly, but it is illegal to abuse a monopoly. Making it difficult for Tesla drivers to fast charge elsewhere other than the Supercharger is abusing a monopoly. In a "free market", Tesla drivers...

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Clearly, you don't know much about the wireless industry. Vell towers are often owned by third parties who sell services to wireless carriers. These cell towers often serve customers from more than one wireless carrier.
  21. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

This is false. 'Good faith' agreement ≠ open source
  22. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Tesla is, in fact, a monopoly in the BEV market. Now, being a monopoly in itself is not illegal. Rather, abusing a monopoly is illegal. Making it difficult to fast charge at non-Tesla chargers would most certainly be illegal and is similar to the example given by the FTC's website.
  23. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Let's use this example of monopolization from the FTC's website: In the same way, Tesla is using its dominant position in the BEV market to make it difficult to use other fast charging networks with Tesla vehicles.
  24. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

In some cases, Electrify America is much cheaper. Regardless, the issue is Tesla preventing Tesla drivers from fast charging elsewhere other than the Supercharger.
  25. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

A monopoly usually requires that the company has >60% of the market share. Samsung has a market share of 19.8% of TVs.

  29. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

So what you saying is that, if I am in Minot, ND, I should only charge from level 2 chargers even though there are non-Tesla DCFCs there.
  30. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Your argument is a strawman. I said that they are potentially dangerous, not knowing if they have been sufficiently safety tested (or not).
  31. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

There is a reason that Tesla doesn't sell the CCS adapter in North America.
  32. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Are you saying that the Tesla Supercharger is not a monopoly because Tesla drivers can use potentially dangerous third-party adapters that might harm them and damage their vehicles?
  33. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Except that it's not available now, and even if it's available some unofficial channels in the future, Tesla might cut that off at any time. Yes, there are third-party adapters available, but you just implied that you don't recommend them. Any way you said it, Tesla locked Tesla drivers from...

  37. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

...because Tesla uses the Tesla Proprietary Connector (TPC) that no one else uses so (North America) Tesla drivers can't anywhere else besides the Supercharger
  38. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Irrelevant. It exists doesn't mean that every North American Tesla driver has access to it. Also, Tesla doesn't even sell CCS adapter in the US. So why are you recommending that Tesla drivers use potentially unsafe third-party adapters? You can make it navigate to other fast charging...
  39. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

The CHAdeMO adapter isn't available anymore and is only limited to 50 kW. Tesla doesn't sell the adapter in North America. So if the third-party adapter catches on fire (because the manufacturer uses undersized wires) and damages the vehicle, is Tesla going to repair the vehicle for free?
  40. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

The charging equipment needs to be able to talk to the vehicle and it can’t because the “language” is proprietary.
  41. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Everyone here knows that the CHAdeMO connector that the Nissan Leaf uses is on the way out. Also, this discussion isn’t about the Nissan Leaf.
  42. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

In Europe, many Tesla drivers rarely fast charge at the Supercharger because they can fast charge elsewhere for less €.
  43. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

They can't because the Tesla Proprietary Connector (TPC) is, well, proprietary.
  44. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

The adapter is available in South Korea, not in North America. Also, a new ChargePort ECU might also be needed, and where is that going to come from?
  45. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

No, it is true. Tesla is preventing Tesla drivers from fast charging elsewhere other than the Supercharger. Charging for 2 days at a 120 V outlet isn’t comparable to charging at the Supercharger for 40 minutes. It’s like saying that using a slide rule is equivalent to using a graphing calculator.
  46. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Okay, I mean specifically in North America. Even if the CCS adapter is available, there is the ~$300 barrier (cost of the adapter) to charging elsewhere other than the Supercharger.

  48. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Not true anymore again, that can be explain by Tesla denying revenue from Tesla drivers to these operators, revenue needed for maintenance, upgrade, etc. Of cause not. Tesla would have far better lawyers that most people can afford. I am talking about the ability of Tesla drivers to use...
  49. Mockingbird

Tesla Supercharger is an illegal monopoly

Electrify America’s rates are less expensive …because Tesla deny other network operators revenue from Tesla drivers Which costs ~$400, is limited to 50 kW, and isn’t available anymore The CHAdeMO adapter provides a subpar experience.
