Enjoyed Model Y 3 years now, going to be out of warranty soon, and issues are starting to happen left and right. How is everyone else's experience?

I have low miles. Figure instead of being in my 3rd year of ownership, am in my first so will likely not get any extended warranty. Do have a dear mailman who bought a used 2015 model S at the same time I got my 2020 MY. He has spent a fortune on that car (two $12,000 repairs and more...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Ditto. The one to two year lifespan seems too short. I'm going with 2-4 years. https://www.nps.gov/bith/learn/nature/virginia-opossum.htm Opossum women are lovely, with long slender snouts. The kids are cute: A gnarly block headed male opossum who visited one evening looked pretty...

Enjoyed Model Y 3 years now, going to be out of warranty soon, and issues are starting to happen left and right. How is everyone else's experience?

Going out of warranty this coming September worries me some too but other than flat tires (a bolt and two screws), I haven't had any issues that required mechanical repair (mysterious passenger side back window occasionally down an inch or two - but not often). Low miles though. There is also...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

This is fab! Last year I drove three surviving joeys (had to look that one up) to a wildlife rehab center. Their mother had been hit on a road I walk. I would think seeing an oncoming car would override any movement to avoid a shadow. Or there'd be lots of braking. Clip: I leave my home...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

V12.3 here, waiting this am. Now installed. 2020 MY. Virginia. Very interested in seeing how it does on my winding back roads into town after PianoAI's comment on his trip up the Cali coast crossing yellow lines (mine will be rumble-stripped) and irregular speeds etc. I hope it is better than...

Does anyone actually have FSD v12 yet?

Hmmm. It's installing on my car now. Not looking forward to any setbacks but I don't have a route near as complicated as Mars. Have been using 11.4.9 every time I drive. It does pretty well but there are always occasional interventions. I will be disappointed if it can't handle speeds well.

Intermittent Electrical Problem Tesla Can't Fix, 5 Months Left on Warranty

This started happening to me in the last week or two. I get in the car, it says there is an incident, can't open the usb to view any files on it. Rebooting allows me to view the files but it fails again and I have to reboot all over again. And there are no new sentry files. I also have a...

Mountain bike fit into Model Y trunk / cargo area?

Guess this isn't a farm vehicle. Daughter called this week, asking for MY driving tips. Needed to take it back to owner's house. Said it was dusty. Used on a farm. They put goats in it. :- )

Do you have aftermarket puddle lights installed?

Has anyone with the old windshield washer system changed to the new one?

I actually never noticed mine supposedly work poorly. Also a 2020. September. They don't build them like that anymore ;-)

I opened another Tesla by mistake!

Okay. Now that you opened the car with your card, if you leave now, lock it with the card because it won't do the phone walk-away lock (not linked by phone). Weird though - glad I have stickers on my car so I can recognize it and the crap inside ;-)

    When to Replace 12v?

Next March my Y will be 3 1/2. Low miles. Would love it if they would preemptively replace the 12V battery before it exceeds the 4 yr warranty at no cost. No indication there is any current issue with the battery, however.

Ugh... Turkey "juices" in the trunk

When you've tried everything suggested and it is all dried, sprinkle some baking soda on it for good measure. Meat juices really stink/rot. More suggestions here: https://beinganadultishard.com/how-to-get-rid-of-rotten-meat-smell/ I would also consider removing it from the car for a while so...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Great news! I have a long history of disengaging for chickens/deer/squirrels/ etc. (currently 11.4.7.3). Fsdb killed a squirrel in 2022. Recent disconnects for squirrels and deer on 11.4.7.3. Animals are unpredictable - and come in multiples (deer). My experience is you see an animal and...

    Color change in software

Cute. Cute. I wanted a burnt orange Tesla but they didn't have any so I settled on a white one. However, once available, I did change the car color on the screen.

Woman. Woman cave. But thanks. Built it myself.

If you park your car in your driveway where is your home charger?

Last year I improved the 30+ year old gravel carport for my 2020 MY. Carports are easier to keep clean. A good place for neighborhood parties!

    FSD Beta v11.x

Almost Halloween. On the way home, some pretty scary leaves set off the Red Wheel of Death maybe 20 or 30' from the usual stop. On a more positive note, the last two versions (11.4.7.2 and 11.4.7.3 (after an early stumble or two) are now routinely stopping for a stop sign that fsdb...

2023 Model Y no USS discussion, incl. Discussion of Tesla Vision Firmware

I totally sympathize with you. To me, you have a solid case. I use the USS in my 2020 MY all the time. I hope the protections you have in the UK help to get you some satisfaction.

Is the car keeping my garage warm?

This happens at home, sentry off, everything that could cause battery drain off. It sometimes skips an hour but mostly once an hour for perhaps 10 minutes last year when I started exploring this and manually logging the behavior. Last year, I could set a clock by how regularly it turned on...

Is the car keeping my garage warm?

It has done this for over a year (first noticed last year when I was working on my carport). Turned off Tezlab to make sure it was not being awoken. Explored Virginia Mileage Choice metrics. I think of this behavior as operating like a trickle charger to keep it topped up. Example of a...

Is the car keeping my garage warm?

I hooked up a connector to the battery (old batteryminder connector) whose other end rests near the wipers, from which I can remove the connector cap and read the voltage without opening the frunk. So nothing I do has any significant affect on the voltage I read with my Fluke knockoff. The...

Is the car keeping my garage warm?

"The older design that used a 12V lead-acid battery could go ~24 hours before needing to be charged from the high voltage battery. " My 2020 MY appears to charge the low voltage battery for perhaps 10 minutes of most hours. I can hear the contactors engage and disengage and have observed the...

Removing frunk tub permanently - mice inspections

Looking forward to giving Shawn Woods' trap a try! I recall a year or so ago when I was working near the car, HEARING a mouse or some animal scuttling inside it! Though I believe the mouse left, I've seen the damage they've done to other cars I've owned.

    Model Y Blind Spot Question

Not quite sure if this is the page I was looking for but maybe. Adjusting mirrors really did work for me (thought the interior mirror idea has merit too): https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a15131074/how-to-adjust-your-mirrors-to-avoid-blind-spots/

What happened when a Tesla came to Ekalaka, Montana

The high point for me was that as soon as she saw the paper, Markham rushed over to the local power utility, the Southeast Electric Cooperative, " . . walked in and told the front desk staff she was “here to pay for the crimes of the UEV,” [and] was met with howls of laughter."

Elon: One-time FSD transfers for purchases in Q3

Wow, that's a lot! I mentioned Virginia's personal property tax. Big bucks there. Last year, despite the county dropping the rate for my 2020 MY, I paid almost $2000. This hated tax is paid every year you own the car, on 100% of the assessed value. So while you might pay 10% on purchase (I...

Elon: One-time FSD transfers for purchases in Q3

Sales tax will depend on the state you are in. Virginia taxes the value of the car with no trade-in breaks. I hear some states do give breaks. So I would be looking at over $2,000 in tax. And increased local personal property tax and likely increased insurance...

Elon: One-time FSD transfers for purchases in Q3

I seem to remember something about changing the OTA updates to end in 8 years for new vehicles? No specified end for my 2020? Some of us may hang on to our cars until they pry their cold dead bodies from our ironfisted SFD-enabling-grip. That said, I sure wish I had a heated steering wheel...

Wiki MASTER THREAD: Actual FSD Beta downloads and experiences

Yes, this stood out to me too, on a trip yesterday. At first I wondered why it was squeezing between two trucks but it seems to respond to vehicles moving up from behind. I agree about perhaps scheduling fewer stops. A trip leg from the Atkins, VA charger (pay by the kwh) to my destination in...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Talking about right turns, yesterday driving south in the left lane of two right turning lanes (the right most one enters a merge lane, not a full lane), car drives toward the merge lane. Map pic, I am represented by a yellow blob on far right road upper road, moving south to turn west...

Ditto on the turning right at a T (going straight first). That's what it's done for me.
  35. Z_Lynx

    FSD Beta v11.x

Same here, on 11.4.2 consistently almost in (or in) the left lane for the left turn at a stop sign. This, coupled with a return to driving down the center of the unmarked road (in which 11.3.6 had finally started tracking to the right on the unmarked road), was unwelcome.
  36. Z_Lynx

    FSD Beta v11.x

Right now I think of it as an expensive game. With consequences. 11.3.6 wouldn't always let me play (fsd often unavailable).
  37. Z_Lynx

    FSD Beta v11.x

No. It runs the stop sign. It does not stop at the last second. Example of full failure in April: Speed has been dropped manually to 10mph, it maintains speed as it runs through the stop sign. Puts on a turn signal as it enters road.
  38. Z_Lynx

    FSD Beta v11.x

It would run the sign if I did not intervene. I dropped the speed from 25 to 15mph in this string of 11.3.6 and 11.4.2 cases. All maintained the full 15 mph (except one that looked to be starting to gray out at 12 mph) until I intervened to prevent entering the road. An intervention gives...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Yelobird, highway department spent some time improving this intersection, which included clearing overhung vegetation. Old sign was short, partly fallen over. This is a super sign. I believe the slight angle was to give better view to approaching traffic. No matter what, I will keep...

    FSD Beta v11.x

On that post I included a second pic showing the car with an intent to run and no car in front. On this and the last version, there has been a 100% incidence of intent to run (no one in front). Because of the correct placement of the stop sign in the visualization (not located on the far side...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Running stop signs. - Not all, mind you, but for me, one very consistently. 11.4.2 and 11.3.6 demonstrated a 100% intent to run (earlier versions had an occasional random success). On 11.4.2, even moved to pass a car properly stopped, blinker on, waiting to turn left. All failures have...

No Spare Tire - I Have a few Questions

I've had more Tesla flats than flats in any other car (3). So far they've been discovered at home. First one, Tesla fixed. The other two I dismounted the tire, put on the spare for safety, and took the tire into town using another car. Way too much work, trouble to involve Tesla again so I...

No Spare Tire - I Have a few Questions

Yes, I did not remove the headrest to transport the spare though that might make life easier. I also happen to think the headrest helps to stabilize it so there are benefits to leaving it on. Note the driver side passenger seat headrest is attached, tucked into the wheel. I take this spare...

No Spare Tire - I Have a few Questions

This is what I mean when I say there is a lot of room around it. For me there is space between the console and tire. 5 seat 2020 model Y. I am likely shorter than you are giving me more room behind the driver's seat. pontelaspilas, you can contact Modern Spare to find out more about the...

No Spare Tire - I Have a few Questions

I put stuff in the back all the time so seats down make sense for me. It is slightly "loose" in the back, why I have a pillow or two and blanket kicking around to help stabilize it (and for padding if I'm hauling anything). The only headrest I have removed is the one on the front passenger's...

No Spare Tire - I Have a few Questions

For what it's worth, I have placed it there too and find it will fit with the rear seat folded down. Depends on where you put the front seat (i.e. not all the way back). I generally leave both the back seats down to carry things. My Modern Spare sits behind the driver's seat with padding to...

Modern Spare DOES fit in frunk area, with liners removed!!!!!

I imagine you know that this is a crush zone and there may be unintended consequences in using the frunk to store a spare if the car is in an accident.

Phantom Braking cause on Dash Display

Then again, it seems FSDb ignores the neighbor's chickens. There are three chickens - the one in the road isn't even a blip. Disengage report: "chicken in the road".

Phantom Braking cause on Dash Display

Routine phantom braking. FSDb: "a sign! a sign! what-the-hell!" Repeat. This is generally only a 5-10mph slowdown (relatively gentle but repeats every time I drive by) Last drive, it braked to 9mph from over 40. Trip to the recycling center had cans flying. FSDb: "a truck! a...
