    Supercharger - Raymond Terrace, NSW

Finally got to a desktop to respond. Yes. I was agreeing with you. (Contextually confusing perhaps but quoting these posts I find hit and miss). My final electrical engineering joke for the thread though, Corona Discharge is the most fun kind of discharge ❤️ #NotThatFunny

    Supercharger - Raymond Terrace, NSW

If you've never designed or quoted an 11kV feeder run, above or underground then how would you know just how expensive that is? Every job is unique, certainly, but I've done jobs where we moved the planned locations of buildings to save millions from shorter power feeds. ACSR and Copper aren't...

    Supercharger - Raymond Terrace, NSW

Just because you’ve got 275kV interconnectors beside arterial roads doesn’t mean it’s easy or cheap to jack into them unfortunately. Stepping it down via sub-stations to usable voltages is more common in commercial and industrial estates. So where those two overlap with major roads you’ve got a...

I don't think it was covered under any of your points, hence why I felt compelled to make mine. But it's all good really. Let's not quibble...it's the weekend and life's too short.

The houses that have done this successfully (think eco-houses in the early 00s) are designed specifically to be facing the optimal direction relative to the sun for their latitude, as much natural ventilation as possible (no Air-conditioning) and minimal electrical appliances. I think if you...

State based EV road user charge (Overturned 18/10/23)

That's a really good point. My concern in future is that unless these different transit systems can have a logically aligned user-pays funding structure then there will be no system that is truly balanced and fair. Each of these areas are also managed by different government departments and some...

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

I drove a Leaf once via the company I worked for at the time and it was a lovely car. I enjoyed how quiet it was (with the PWS turned off), how it handled and the fun musical score it plays when you turn it on. My only issue was its range so once the Model 3 was released here in Australia, I got...

Australian standards for home charging an Electric Vehicle.

I realise most people on the forum aren't Electricians or Electrical Engineers. In future I probably shouldn't weigh in on this stuff like this if I'm going to get responses like the ones above. Appreciate your response that's based on fact.

Australian standards for home charging an Electric Vehicle.

I think stipulating 15A mandatory outlets in a garage or even Type 2 connectors is an obvious next step, for NEW BUILDS. The way in which legislation like this is usually handled is it only applies to new builds, not enforcing retrofits. As time passes eventually people will retrofit them...

FSD v9.0 in Australia is just a con isn't it?

Fair comment. I did watch it a little while ago and I was focussed on the Advertisement, which I don't think qualified as a lie. Misleading? Maybe. That's marketing though. To your point (and StopCrazyPPs) the fact that Elon mis-spoke / spoke-sh!t during the event is undeniable, that's true...

FSD v9.0 in Australia is just a con isn't it?

Yes I watched that video before you posted it. Yes Tesla took the finish line snapshot when the CyberTruck was ahead of the Porsche at the 1/8th mile marker, since EVs will out-accelerate practically anything gas-powered. If you let the race continue the Porsche will eventually win as it has a...

2022 Model 3 Insurance upped from $100 to $187 per month - Allianze

Yes and when I lived in Calgary, this weird thing called snow kept falling and icing the roads and cars kept skidding into each other all the damn time! (No wonder it's so expensive?) Ahh, I miss the Rockies though...

I'm not disputing the infrastructure can be considered to be archaic, however in fairness it was fit for purpose when it was designed, from baseload to end user points of supply. With the tables turned and not enough controls to disconnect or store the power pushed back into the grid from all...

    Queensland EV Charging Infrastructure Scheme

Trying to find the right thread to post it and I whilst I researched with what time I had (not too much) it may attract some critique (hopefully not) but as a Queenslander, I've been watching this closely and pulled this post together. I discuss the rapid addition of DC Fast Charging...

Model Y / 3 comparison - same same but different?

Have to agree with the Model 3 being low. It's hard for my mother (77 years old) and my wife also complains. That said it's the exception rather than the rule and more the majority of my personal use case, the 3 is fine but a more comfortable height the Y is the better choice for most I think...

What am I missing - EV pushback in Australia

There are a myriad of reasons why people don't buy an Electric Vehicle. The more people (even in this thread) try to categorise "those people" the more like them we are in our offensive defence. The truth is there is a car out there for everybody's needs more or less. With time, more EVs will...

    Superchargers in Australia

The doubters in the world will always say it's not possible to install charging infrastructure, when in fact it's not technically difficult and quite feasible. The real issue is the pre-planning and keeping ahead of the EV surge. The sad part here is that it's up to a handful of companies and...

Can I pair a spare Model S keyfob to a Model 3? Or are they different?

I keep wanting to buy the KeyFob to see if it’s better than the damn phone. My iPhone 12 won’t unlock the MIC M3SR+ Unless the screen is awake. I honestly find my old KeyFob from my Honda was simpler and more reliable. One day when I’ve got $235 to spare…we’ll see.

MIC 2021/22 AC problem - anyone in the Oz forum had this?

Yes. My M3 won’t blow cold air above my chin, and in summer it was annoying as hell. Now I know there’s a problem I’ll keep an eye on this for any updates.

    Ampol AmpCharge network

Stopped on the way home today but didn't think taking a photo of the four guys pouring concrete was a good look. The hole that was there yesterday in the Southern-most spot has been filled, additional concrete has been cut and filled and conduits installed for cabling. Couldn't see any storage...

    Ampol AmpCharge network

Taken today at Carseldine, North Brisbane. The area is fenced off due to the decent hole in the ground and the signage on the opposite side to this photo refers to the constructor: Enerven. Clearly this is where the DC FC is being installed here at least. Just in the top of the frame they’ve got...

My blog post about my trip to Monto

I have suggested that it could be a magnet for EV drivers that would otherwise not take that highway. They’ve said they’ll look into it. I’ve suggested a Type 2 AC charger (up to 11kW) and being an Electrical Engineer, I quickly ran the calcs on their Laundromat Distribution board. It has a...

Any safety benefits of Model 3 AWD in Australia under normal driving conditions?

When I was driving in Calgary many years ago in my AWD Subaru, I learned very quickly that you can easily spin out if you don't respect icy conditions. There's really only so much AWD can do. It's not about chains, it's not about AWD, it's about HOW you drive the car more than anything else...

Tesla no longer including mobile charger bundle?

The UMC is the ultimate back-stop for charging your car. There are millions of power points in Australia you could charge your car from using a UMC, however it takes a HUGE amount of time so really only over-night. To avoid that outcome, most EV owners plan ahead, pace their trips and plan their...

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

With the weather cooling down (finally) I've been driving with my windows down in the early mornings (in Brisbane). I'm now hearing the kids on the street yell out "Look! A Tesla!!" or similar. Amazed at how many kids (about 8-10 years old) go ga-ga over our cars! Crazy...
