Florida FPL Time of Use Rate

I need to follow up. I called them ~ 6 wks ago concerning TOU plan and they said I need to have a usage analysis done and that this would take about 3 weeks. It's been crickets. Dealing with FPL is like dealing with government. FPL hates home solar. Solar with PW to TOU plan, that's a...

Happened to me. Not all that uncommon. They’ll update the permitted plans the day they show up.

    Is this clipping?

Thank you for the well articulated response. The rest of my story. I had 2 Honda 2k's that I could connect to get 30a. Of course I gave them to my father in law who lives 600 miles away. When it became apparent that the power outage could last a while, I went to home depot and braved the...

    Is this clipping?

I have yet to see any documentation mentioning "overdrive". I think it is a myth. How can an inverter with a rate max output of X do more than X?
  5. P

    Is this clipping?

Yes that is clipping. When clipping, the inverter is at 100% effort. The higher the DC:AC ratio the higher the likelihood of clipping. I bet the cooing fan on the inverter was running pretty hard too. I have a 12.24 kW system with two powerwalls, on is a PW+. You probably have the same...

FPL (Florida) increases minimum monthly bill to $25 (plus taxes and fees)

Funny thing is, when this was brought before the Florida Legislature no financial analysis or business case was presented. The $25 was kind of out thin air. Bare in mind Nextra Energy post profits in the billions. My going solar, FPL lost a good customer.

FPL (Florida) increases minimum monthly bill to $25 (plus taxes and fees)

Does anyone on FPL net metering experience this? Mimimum $25 = $9.48 (base energy charge) + $15.52 (minimum base bill charge), where does the money go? the $15.52. FPL profit or do you get some kind of credit. Sounds like there is no incentive to be net zero. You're gifting FPL...

Florida FPL Time of Use Rate

Thoughts. As a test, put the system in time based control mode without changing the rate plan. This would give an idea of what you would pay/save going TOU. Before you even do it.

Discussion: Tesla Energy / Auto Customer Service

Has anyone gone to arbitration? 12.2kWh system. 1xPW+, 1xPW2. Finally got my solar reinstalled after getting new roof. I added a Tesla Inverter, which increased my production ~50%. Telsa said system properly sized with DC/AC ratio of 1.61. PW+ spec sheet max is 1.7. Tesla undersized the...

    Is this clipping?

Overdriving is BS. It will cause the inverter to fail. Ask me how I know. Lower DC/AC is better IMHO. Higher just lowers install cost.

Call to action, Florida House passes bill 741. It will pass the senate this week, 3/7/22, if we don't do something

Last week, the Florida House pass bill 741 which guts net metering in Florida. It is scheduled to get a third reading and a vote this week in the Senate. https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/1024 It's easy to email the Senators. https://www.flsenate.gov/Senators Florida is supposedly...

Floridians need to get off their butts, SB 1024 passed committe

Cue the propaganda. This article is hard to read - like following the logic of someone drunk asking for their keys back. For those not in Florida. FPL (NexTra Energy) is headquartered in Juno Beach, Palm Beach County, FL. The Palm Beach Post primary market it Palm Beach County. Its kind of...

Any FPL customers post PTO with back-up switch?

A win for FPL. I put in a complaint to the Public Service Commission. I'm waiting for a reply from the PSC. I expect this goes no where, but at least it's documented and public record. Tesla has completed the redesign for the gateway are are working to schedule FPL so they can remove the...

Floridians need to get off their butts, SB 1024 passed committe

That's the point of this exercise. Slow, hopefully halt, the adoption of roof top solar. Like the utility ever cared about a customer.

Floridians need to get off their butts, SB 1024 passed committe

Everyone, Imagine that, FPL, following Cali, wants to gut net metering. The FPL bill passed committee yesterday. https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/1024 The committee is regulated industries. https://www.flsenate.gov/Committees/Show/RI/ Get involved. I've raised hell today with...

Any FPL customers post PTO with back-up switch?

You must be a nice charitable person. This can't be said for FPL, or any monopoly, let alone utility. I asked them why. They initially said it was safety. That the BS could damage the inside of the meter leading to a short that could electrocute someone. They said it happens all the time...

Any FPL customers post PTO with back-up switch?

To follow-up. I put in a complaint to the Public Service Commission. FPL got back to me right away. FPL said that the switch is against their standard. I asked what was the standard. The switch comforms to industry standard (UL etc) as required per the interconnection agreement and PSC...

Tesla says I can use the system before PTO?

I've been using the system before PTO in self consumption mode. The only reason I think this is allowed is that PTO is permission to export to the grid, and since I'm in self consumption mode, I'm not exporting. Thoughts

Any FPL customers post PTO with back-up switch?

Any FPL customers post PTO with back-up switch? Nothing like being stuck in the middle. Yesterday, FPL comes and installs net meter. The end is in sight. Yeah!!! It works perfectly. FPL technician then notices the backup switch, ask what it is, I tell him and he says its not approved...

Just ordered Tesla solar panels, tips, do’s and dont’s welcome!

Lessons learned: - Be patient - this will take a lot longer than 2-days. I have a complex install on a tile roof. I think they had like 7+ work days on my roof. How long the crews are at your house each day is a function of how far you are from their warehouse. I'm hours from the warehouse...

Just ordered Tesla solar panels, tips, do’s and dont’s welcome!

IMHO, north should be a no go. Go to PVWatts to build and compare multiple scenarios for the placement of solar panels on your roof. I am not certain, but I do not think the HOA can limit where you place the panels. Florida Statute, Section 163.04...

Discussion: Tesla Energy / Auto Customer Service

I ordered my system late April, install completed last week of September, and waiting for Tesla to complete application for PTO with FPL. To not use foul language to describe the experience is to give too much credit to Tesla. Working with the crew who service SW FL (Tampa) has been awful, and...

    Power wall plus 170% capacity?

Yesterday, the Tesla rep said that post PTO, via software, the PW+ (inverter) will be able to output 170% rated AC capacity. That would be 7.6 to 12.92 kW AC peak power (specs 9.6 max kWh off-grid). The rep stated this is why they “overbuild” system (or why they underbuild on the inverter...

I have same issue (7.6 kWh inverter for a 12.14 kWh sys). System operational 5 weeks ago. FPL net metering application completed 4 weeks ago. Inspection passed 3 weeks ago. 3 weeks ago, the inspector said the interconnection team would get to my case in 2-weeks. Last week, the rep said my...

keep mobile connector plugged in? or unplug after use

Tesla says a happy tesla is a plugged in Tesla. FWIW, I have an energy monitor installed in my electric panel. My mobile connector is always plugged into a Nema 14-50 outlet. It’s lights are always on. M3P plugged in, or not, this circuit only draws current when charging.

Inverter Size and number of strings

I bought a large system older panels, 12.24 kWh, 2xPW. Tesla required I get $1m in liability insurance b/c AC rated > 10 kWh, so tier 2 per FPL. Install is 12.24 solar with 1xPW+, 1xPW2. So only 1x inverter, 7.6 kWh. PW+ only is not going to get it done. It taps out at 7.6 kWh. Tesla app...

Inverter Size and number of strings

What size inverter(s) should you expect with each system size? How many strings? Tesla is not direct or clear as to what inverter you get you system or the number of strings. Tesla solar comes in 4 sizes small (4.25kWh), medium (8.5kWh), larger (12.75kWh), and extra large (17.0kWh)...

    Discussion: "Powerwall +"

Just completed install and solar turned on on Monday, 9/27. 12.24/1PW+/1PW2. Waiting for inspection and PTO. Weather has been beautiful here in south Florida. System peaks at 7.6kW on or off grid. Per spec sheet, PW+ 7.6 max on grid, 9.6 off. Is this normal? Has anyone seen the 9.6 off...
