See? This is what I'm talking about. These chumps sleep with Elon Musk blow-up dolls.

Easy Entry caused rear seat passenger to scream

I didn't want to test that. In this case it wasn't an old woman, but she's probably 70 - in other words, old enough for her legs to bruise easily even if it does stop! As I wrote, now I know about this I'll just be prepared with my hand on the switch to stop the seat sliding. We don't have rear...

Easy Entry caused rear seat passenger to scream

I now know to be ready to stop it with the seat control when I have a passenger in the rear, and no one got hurt. But it would have been really annoying having to clean up all that blood if her leg had been squashed. Tesla needs to tap into the rear seat sensor and stop the seat from going...

    Wipers won't freaking stop

Again: Tesla set out to reinvent the wheel. Most of the time they succeeded in improving it, but this is one of the misses.

    Wipers won't freaking stop

By the way, the latest software has a great feature (at least I only discovered it after the latest software): hit the single-wipe button at the end of the turn signal stem and a windshield wiper panel appears on the touchscreen, where you can adjust the speed.

Ceramic spray yes or no if you park under a birch tree that spews resin?

Update: I switched places with our other car so the Tesla isn't under the tree. That eliminated 75% of the problem. The other 25% is solved until next year - the tree stopped dripping sap for the winter. :)

Voice commands didn't work for a while ("not connected"). Why?

The downside of a car with reinvented wheels is that some of the things the designers tried aren't entirely successful. Voice commands requiring cellular data is one of them, another is excessive reliance on cameras that get obscured easily by condensation. There are far more successes, however.

    Wipers won't freaking stop

I'm still on my first windshield, but it's true that windshields can be wear-and-tear parts.
  10. N

    Wipers won't freaking stop

The logic on my 2004 BMW is that it has a sensor that processes the data, sends it over the Internet to BMW's cloud processing data center in Munich, where it gets analyzed by artificial intelligence robots that ping weather satellites to determine whether it's ****ing raining... Actually it's...

    Wood veneer cracking

If it's out of warranty, you should be able to fill a crack that small pretty easily. Order some Timbermate - that's the good stuff I use for woodworking - and wipe the excess off with a wet paper towel (or better yet blue shop towel). If you get the right color, nobody will know.

    Wipers won't freaking stop

Yeah, I'm just grousing that it wasn't easy to drive in the rain after dark (headlights reflected in raindrops on the windshield), and it should be. I'd be in favor of Tesla redirecting resources (meaning engineers) who are working on self-driving - which is destined to be a failure until every...

    Wipers won't freaking stop

Yesterday I drove in the rain in Los Angeles. The wipers went faster than necessary when we were stopped, and not fast enough to make it easy to see when we were moving. I dunno. You'd think that a car this advanced in so many ways would have basic things together when they've been figured out...

    Wipers won't freaking stop

If it's like the one on my 2004 BMW - which works perfectly, by the way - it's an infra red sensor on the back of the rear view mirror.

Voice commands didn't work for a while ("not connected"). Why?

That doesn't seem to me like the most efficient way to do it! But I believe Siri worked that way for a while too.

Haha the therapy argument. :) I think there's a good chance we're kidding around here.
  18. N

Voice commands didn't work for a while ("not connected"). Why?

I got "not connected" messages when trying to use voice commands to turn on the windshield defroster this morning. It had sorted itself out 20 minutes later, but does anyone know what's going on and how to deal with it next time? TIA

    Wipers won't freaking stop

I need therapy because the automatic wiper feature doesn't work properly?

Love the Model 3, but the auto-dimming brights feature doesn't work

2021. We just got it at the end of September.

Love the Model 3, but the auto-dimming brights feature doesn't work

^ The subject. It thinks every light in every house is an oncoming car and won't let you turn your brights on. The feature simply doesn't work.
  24. N

    Wipers won't freaking stop

Well, I'm in Los Angeles and it was giving me problems too. Try voice commands - that was my solution.
  25. N

    Wipers won't freaking stop

Maybe it's just me, but a wiper that only wipes half the windshield doesn't seem like an idea that would catch on. :)

    Regen brake loss

Yeah, I'm in Los Angeles (Sherman Oaks, about the same temp as SD), and the charge was nowhere near full - point being that it's almost certainly the amount of regen it can eat all at once, not the maximum charge limit. As an aside, we set our charge limit just below the default (227 miles)...
  30. N

    Regen brake loss

So I think I've figured something out (because the temperature and 90% full charge situation doesn't apply to me): each time the regen slowed was after a long downhill run. Ergo there must be a limit to how fast the battery can charge from regenerated electricity, so it stops temporarily when...

Tesla deletes cheap Cybertruck from its website

Yes, especially around Harris Ranch, where there's a Supercharger. I think it's possible to get from Bakersfield to Santa Nella on a charge. It's 175 miles (standard range Model 3).
  32. N

    Regen brake loss

Thanks, but I'm in Los Angeles. It was in 65˚F range (that's about 17˚ C using the rough translation method). Still, you may be right that it's the temperature, because it has been a little cooler here the past few days.

Hypocrisy? What a ridiculous comment. Yes, I'm offended at your insensitivity.

Tesla deletes cheap Cybertruck from its website

Sorry, I just can't laugh about it. While I do eat chicken and fish - you have to eat something - I stopped eating mammals (and ducks) 30 years ago. I don't claim that there's anything rational about it, because I do wear leather shoes. But it makes me feel a tiny bit less sick when I think...

    Regen brake loss

We got reduced braking earlier this week, and the battery was not close to full. It has been colder in Los Angeles, maybe 65˚, but this was after driving on the freeway for several miles. What's going on?
  36. N

Tesla deletes cheap Cybertruck from its website

I have no problem stopping for 15 minutes at a Tesla Supercharger on the few long distance trips I take (provided they don't require that I stop near a cattle feed lot, which I just find too upsetting to deal with). That was why we decided against the extended range Model 3 - we figured that...

Autosteer veers to the right when there's a freeway onramp lane

We've had our Model 3 since the end of September, and I'm even more convinced now than I was at first that the only thing anywhere near ready for prime time is Autofollow - and I haven't experienced the false breaking, which would change my mind about that too. Last night here in Los Angeles it...

3 dual motor - are both motors used all the time

My other car is a 2004 X5 with a sport package, but I've never driven one without it (I promise you I couldn't have afforded it new, so it wasn't an option). It has a pretty stiff ride, but it was the best-driving car I'd ever driven - until now, when I don't want to drive anything other than...
  39. N

3 dual motor - are both motors used all the time

Put another way: the Model 3 is absolutely amazing to drive, and I suspect that the suspension is part of that.
  40. N

3 dual motor - are both motors used all the time

It has a stiff suspension, no question, and for example Consumer Reports knocked it because of that in their review. But I'm going to guess that the stiff suspension makes its handling more responsive? That's based on two things: 1. BMW's "sport package" option for their cars has a stiffer...

    Politics - Quarantine Thread

A president who's doing his absolute best to improve the American people's lives. I don't care whether you agree with him - well, actually I do, but the point is that comments like that aren't fair.
  42. N

Tesla deletes cheap Cybertruck from its website

Also, I want my 2004 BMW X5 to last a long time - and now that we have a Model 3, it'll last longer than it would have done (since I'm driving it a lot less). But when it goes, I hope I can afford a Cybertruck. That thing seems ideal for me - it carries passengers, it's big enough to transport...

Tesla deletes cheap Cybertruck from its website

I'm late to this party, but the reason it's important not to misuse the word hyperinflation is that it only happens when a country's economy collapses to the point that nobody wants to accept its currency. My purpose for mansplaining this isn't to give you a hard time, it's that I'm in America...
  44. N

3 dual motor - are both motors used all the time

Everything is opinion. In this case it corresponds to fact. If you go 0-60 in 5.x seconds, you're endangering yourself and/or others most of the time. There are exceptions, yes, but a car is not a toy. EDIT: ...which isn't to say that having that kind of acceleration can't also be a godsend...
  45. N

3 dual motor - are both motors used all the time

Also, it's not that there's no value in all-wheel drive and the extended range, it's the price I'm kvetching about. For $6000 we might even have done it, but now that we have the car I don't miss it. Same with red, or a white interior - if you like that, great, but $3000 feels like sodomy (not...
  46. N

3 dual motor - are both motors used all the time

Right, and my point is that the standard one already takes off way faster than anyone should ever go on public roads - even going up a hill. It's the way you put it I'm squabbling over, not your maths! :)
  47. N

3 dual motor - are both motors used all the time

It was $9000 when we ordered our Model 3 over the summer. And it's not 25% slower, it's much faster than you should ever accelerate on the road. If you want to pay $9000 (not $6000) to save a few minutes of charging time on long trips, I won't stop you. Same with $2000 for red. Just let me and...

3 dual motor - are both motors used all the time

Base Model 3: $40,000. Second motor $9000, fool self-driving $10,000, red instead of white $2000, white interior so you can spend your time cleaning it $1000, rear seat heater rip-off $300, big-penis wheels $1900 for a stiffer ride... Total: $24,200. That's an extra 60%, or the price of a...

3 dual motor - are both motors used all the time

I only test-drove the dual motor once and don't remember how it behaved, but I'll take your word for it. All I can say is that I drove our single-motor Model 3 from Sherman Oaks to Santa Monica yesterday and used the brakes a whopping three times the whole 14 mile trip - and very lightly. Regen...
