Discussion: Model Y General Waiting room for orders placed After January 2023

First OD 1/13, white/black with tow hitch. Second OD 1/17, white/black bone stock. Got both EDDs just now. First order Jan 18 to Feb 1, second order Feb 4 to Mar 4. Guess I can cancel the second one!

Discussion: Model Y General Waiting room for orders placed After January 2023

I think tow hitch may be one option that slows assignment. I placed my order just a few minutes after the price change was published, stock white plus tow hitch.

    Aww, my baby... :-)

    Interested in my Roadster?

I just went through my annual exercise of shopping around all of my insurance. About half of the national and super-regional carriers I interacted with could provide automatically-rated coverage for the Roadster. Of the other 5, 2 or 3 would have been willing to submit for manual underwriting...

    Interested in my Roadster?

It was one of the last Roadster 1.5's to be sold. I believe it was on a showroom floor in L.A. for several months.

They came plastic and were underengineered for the friction of the shaft. I replaced them with a set of metal knobs that are much more pleasant. I learned later that Tesla reengineered the plastic ones by filling them with a hard resin.

    Interested in my Roadster?

Price drop. See below. Okay, I'll admit I feel a little weird posting this. I have an orange 2008 MY, one of the last delivered in October 2009. I love it. But we are looking at moving and our new place will not have charging facilities for the Roadster. My family size has also increased...

    Insurance?

How did you get GEICO to underwrite your Roadster? I called them a few years ago when I got mine and they refused to write coverage. I called them today and they confirmed that this vehicle is still on their list of exclusions.

    Aftermarket radio/NAV units

Yes, thanks for the text from the manual. In the US, our laws and precedent are pretty clear: they have a clear and heavy burden to show that the aftermarket modification interfered. My real-world experience (one person's only!) is that today they are quite reasonable about the whole thing...

    Aftermarket radio/NAV units

I keep seeing this suggestion on this forum, but I don't get it. First, I thought it was illegal for whole car warranties to be voided simply because one subcomponent has been changed. Doesn't the burden rest on the car company to demonstrate that the modification adversely impacts whatever...

    Los Angeles 1.5 Roadster owners

My opinion is that the weatherstripping is a bandaid. It helps a little bit. The fundamental problem is with the shape of the stuff that's in the wind. It can definitely be fixed, but I bet it won't be since the Roadster is kinda EOL.

    Los Angeles 1.5 Roadster owners

It really doesn't make that big a difference. They have a fluid flow problem with the pillar/window/top junction that didn't get optimized. I talked to one of the engineers a while back, and it sounded like they just ran out of time to do the work. Diminishing returns and all.

    Los Angeles 1.5 Roadster owners

No picture, but I can describe it. It looks exactly like a piece of black rubber weatherstripping glued down the center of the door "channel"/pillar. They use a lot of glue, so the metal behind and to the sides of the strip gets shiny looking.

I think the sound proofing kit was quoted to me at around several thousand. The A-Pillar fix is already covered above.

    Los Angeles 1.5 Roadster owners

Availability of funds won't stop you from getting the "A-Pillar wind noise fix," otherwise known as a fancy piece of weatherstripping. Tesla will install it for free on any model Roadster upon request. (Interestingly, even some of the 2.5's in our showroom didn't have it in place.)

    Snowy Climate with a Tesla

Yeah, this is a smart idea. I wonder if it even makes sense once the paint is all torn up, though? Mine already is, and I just figured I'd repaint it one day if I were feeling really uncomfortable about it... water under the bridge, I guess you could say? Anyway, the good news is that it's...

Yep, sure do. Right along those front edges. The design makes it pretty much unavoidable, sadly.

    Snowy Climate with a Tesla

Actually the dirt road I live on drives the wash frequency more often, it seems! Teslas have a tendency to accrue lots of dirt and rocks in the door areas, especially, so I am constantly trying to spray that out. I have taken to just stopping by one of those pay-as-you-go spray carwash...

    Snowy Climate with a Tesla

That is what I have been doing as a stop-gap measure. Unfortunately my charge time varies a lot depending on how much I drove. I don't have an HPC, so a full charge on a cold day can require as much as 10 to 12 hours, but a typical jaunt to town would only need a couple. I have not found...

No, but mine is orange and looks very cool when the road is white. :)

    Snowy Climate with a Tesla

I live at 8,500 feet and we get about 200 inches of snow a year. I have been driving mine almost every day once I got the snow tires. Is it as good as my Subaru? No, and partly because I don't think the Tesla-recommended snow tires are the best ones available today. (The other part is...

    Tesla Motors Roadster Road Trip

If they have the snows on, and the roads aren't iced over, they'll be able to drive in 4 inches. Especially if the car is housed in a warm garage overnight. (There is a known, outstanding issue with truly cold starts.)

    Living with a Tesla Roadster

I'm really glad you mentioned this about the foot heater nozzles. I've found I can be totally warm in the car but my feet are cold. This is partly because I insist upon wearing sandals in the winter, partly because the insulation is pretty minimal down there, and I bet mostly because of what...

    Boulder Sales and er... Gallery?

Certainly a built-to-order would be out of the question. I believe all the available spec and showroom vehicles were also sold a while ago. I think most if not all of the orders were delivered this week.

    Tesla Motors Roadster Road Trip

I think it's interesting that they're encouraging themselves to get it dirty and drive it in challenging conditions. If their driving works out like my early experiences, and they do really drive on some rutted, dirt roads and in slushy and cold conditions, they will: a) see damage from rocks...

    Battery Heating message during charge

You'd think so! I left that detail out. Most of the time, whenever I leave it plugged in for days, it is in an error state when I get out to the garage. Usually the GFI trips (I only have the 110V charging cable with the integrated one). Also, once the car is fully charged, it just stops...

    Battery Heating message during charge

Yes, I have seen this in the past few weeks, and I think your theory is correct. In my case, it happens only at the start of my drive, which consists of a steep downhill grade for about 800 vertical feet and two miles. By the time I get to the paved road, regen is usually working. The...

    Battery Heating message during charge

Yeah, the VDS showed 64kWH consumption to "charge" a battery that was already showing full before I plugged it in. :)

    Battery Heating message during charge

I looked around to try to figure out how I got this -20F number in my head as the lower extremum for operating temperature. Turns out some of the old blog entries on the Tesla site reference this -20 number back in 2005 and 2006. They also were using Celsius units, however. :) Anyway, -20C...

    Battery Heating message during charge

Hmm, you're right. For some reason I thought I remembered the lower boundary being -20F. There will eventually be a lot of cars that could be parked, at least overnight in some cases, in much lower than 32F. To date the sample size may be so small that Tesla simply hasn't had to deal with...

    Battery Heating message during charge

Thanks, I was searching for the verbiage on the VDS and found no hits. Mine has been flashing blue for a few hours now. When I started, it showed "9% complete," and now it alternates between 0% and 10% approximately once per second. Weird, huh? The outside temperature is approximately...

    Battery Heating message during charge

Has anyone seen this? You plug in the charger, and instead of switching into charge mode, it says "Battery Heating n%" and does nothing? (Except, presumably, heating the battery?) We've had a stretch of sub-zero temperatures for the last 3 or 4 days, and that's what I'm seeing now that I...

    Winter Tires?

They're telling me it's because the TC algorithm "learns" the new tire characteristics and then is "confused" by the original ones. I suspect what really happens is that the additional (better) traction provided by the stock tires is no longer taken advantage of once the TC algorithm has...

    Winter Tires?

I got word today that they're recommending the Pirellis. There also, apparently, is some kind of firmware adjustment that has to be applied, without which the TC gets confused and won't deliver torque. Moreover, they're supposedly going to push another firmware update to allow end users to...

    Anyone have the hard top?

I think the same-color top looks weird, too. I much prefer the contrasting, carbon fiber top, especially with the lighter color options.
  41. N

    Anyone have the hard top?

Yeah, I live at 8,500 feet and get nearly 200 inches of snow a year. I've never had a convertible (or a soft top, much less), but I'm not especially worried about the moisture or even some snow load. The car will be garaged and I'm sure top is sturdy enough to easily handle a foot or more of...

Great, now I just need one or more of them to find this thread and comment on the experience. Ben

    Anyone have the hard top?

Yeah, I will almost certainly purchase that one. I figured there would be a better chance of someone having the OEM top, however. Maybe not?

    Anyone have the hard top?

I'm considering getting one, but I'm curious: does it reduce the noise level in the car at all? Thanks! Ben

    Boulder Sales and er... Gallery?

Tell me about it. I live about 10 minutes from the new "gallery," and I stopped by on Saturday afternoon. The place was pretty mobbed, and the small sales team was just getting hammered. The problem right now is that there is immense time pressure to make a deal. They say that the...
