Tips on how to get past Tesla Tier 1 support (Inverter issue)

I love how their response after days/weeks/months of calling in to try to get them to acknowledge an issue they always “detect an issue “. Yeah. Riiiight.

    Grid charging update

I have seen 5KW for stormwatch and for VPP event days.
  7. S

    Grid charging update

That's what I'm seeing too - I did a bit of grid charging after a few days of clouds/rain to get my reserve up, max grid pull was to get 1.6kw inbound to PW, dropping to 0 when the sun peeked out and panels produced enough to cover house + at least 1.6kw to PW.

    Break Even Achieved!

    I doubt I could fit 30KW / 40 panels on my roof!

    Break Even Achieved!

In CA/PG&E land, PG&E won't let you over-provision (ie, they reject the proposal if you're significantly over) your solar. I woulda gone for 50% larger if I could - 1 PW, 4kW panels - overproducing probably 10% which will vanish once it gets hotter & we run AC more in the summer. I didn't have...

arcing/electricall sound when powerwall takes over?

No. Maybe a click, no arcing! Hopefully you heard something related to the outage from the grid. You can test on your own by throwing the service main cutoff - that's pretty much the same as an outage. You should hear a click (maybe) but not much else.

Should I get Powerwalls if I am on an essential "circuit/block"?

I'm in a 50 block, on the coast. We've lost power a few times. I have a powerwall, don't regret it at all (mostly 100% self powered 9 months out of the year, never use peak power from grid thanks to PW)

    Norcal heat wave

I skipped last two days, will be in for the next two :D
  13. S

    Norcal heat wave

Thankfully I only pulled a tiny bit, PW was already nearly full. Only a few pennies of NBCs today. Event is only an hour, should be over before sunset so maybe I'll even have some battery left this time.
  14. S

    Norcal heat wave

Looks like another flex alert is on for today. No VPP notice yet in the app. Maybe they're waiting until later in the day to give the grid a break & let us charge up with solar :D
  15. S

    Norcal heat wave

I was tapped out about 20 min before the end of the event (20% reserve, dumped 80% of 1 PW2 + a trickle of solar during the event) - charging up nicely this morning - no fog today!

PG&E has the event on their site as well, I take it as real. Just kinda last minute. https://www.pge.com/en_US/residential/outages/current-outages/report-view-an-electric-outage/additional-resources/energy-system-status.page

We just got the Virtual Power Plant / Grid Event message for today. So my powerwall will get drained out this evening.

    Potential Storm Watch Issue

Would "Go off grid" setting have disconnected / isolated the system?
  19. S

    Potential Storm Watch Issue

I suppose you could "go off grid" to protect the powerwall backed circuits during a storm. Then go back on grid after the storm passes.

Single Powerwall Backup Entire 200amp panel?

I have a single PW, gas heat, electric dryer, and an EV. I can run the AC when the sun is shining. If we're in a power fail mode, I'd not do laundry or run the AC outside of the 2-4 hours of peak solar generation if the grid was down. Power has bee remarkably stable since installing the system...

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

LOL I am in one of those discussions for the Ioniq 5, which comes with 2 years free DC charging. There are people who are very sure that using DC fast charging on a car designed to support DC fast charging (and where DC fast charging being trumpeted as a major feature) will damage (reduce the...

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

My lone powerwall, set to 30% reserve, dumped 2 hours worth of power out. Pulled 300 watts from grid in the morning until solar picked up (charging for event) and then was on grid with my reserve until the morning. I guess that's a few dollars worth?

    One powerwall and ac compressor

I've got an AC w. LRA around 50 - it starts/runs fine on a single PW + solar (~3kw production) or PW + grid, but would not try to run it during grid outages.

    PowerWall 2 Best Practice

PW2s should be ~13.5k, My 10 month old PW is showing 13981, seems legit.

    PowerWall won’t connect to Wi-Fi.

I don't have a Tesla EV, but I get your point. Just seems like a pretty paltry payout for giving up control of my powerwall stored energy

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

Got the popup yesterday, $72/yr - yeah, no thanks. If I'm going to do anything with my "excess" production besides offsetting winter solar generation, it will be charging my EV.

Is Powerwall necessary in Bay Area?

I have a small house, with a small (4 kW) tesla solar install and 1 powerwall 2. We don't use a ton of electricity. It was a no brainer to go for powerwall * climate change + wild fires == more PG&E outages * live in Santa Cruz very close to the coast == storms * single powerwall provides whole...

    Powerwall backup question

The local connection to TEG wifi always works, and once you have the powerwall on your local network your local network access always works regardless of your internet being up/down. The Powerwall will NOT be connected to tesla, but everything will continue on as set up until it can reconnect...

Drastic spikes during peak production hours

I went live in November. My panels are on either side of the roof (east/west), so until ~ March/April I never hit peak production even midday. That's when I started to see problems, increasing to nearly daily (unless cloudy) the higher the sun got.
  33. S

Drastic spikes during peak production hours

My issue was incorrect wiring during install - two sets of panels tied together, so it was clipping at 3kW - clipping to 3kW or .3kW to prevent overload. Took them 10 min to fix when they finally rolled a truck out. No issues since (and hitting 3.4kW peak production now)
  34. S

    Sudden Production Drop

The install was certainly not great, but (fingers crossed) it all seems to be working correctly now, production is actually 10-15% higher at peak since it's not clipped at 3kW for my 4kW of panels.
  35. S

    Sudden Production Drop

Update: The tesla techs arrived, opened the inverter, said it was not wired correctly (two strings tied together, caused overload if over 3kW) and fixed the wiring. Seems to be good now & peak production does exceed 3kW now midday. Kinda makes you wonder about the installers, but at lest it's fixed.

    Sudden Production Drop

Update: Me, 3 weeks ago chatting with Customer Service: "Something is clearly wrong, I am seeing hour + long dropouts in production during peak sun" CS Agent: "Your overall production is fine" Me/Them back and forth as I try to assure them that 0.3kW production from a 4kW system in full sun is a...

22.9.1 or Powerwall/Inverter/UFO? Very low solar generation, panels in full sun

22.9.1 or Powerwall/Inverter/UFO? Very low solar generation, panels in full sun

This has been happening for a few weeks now - midday, full sun (should be cranking 2.8-3 kW) for no apparent reason the solar generation drops to 10% of normal (0.2-0.4kW) & stays that way for an hour, or sometimes never recovers, or will recover if I reset the PW. I've just tried all the...

    22.1.2 Update

    22.1.2 Update

Updated to 22.9.1, seeing random periods where solar produces .4kW max. Connected with chat, they first wanted to tell me its all good since I produced "enough" for my system. This while I am looking at full sun on the panels generating .4kW and PW not charging or discharging to cover the...

Update Caused Powerwalls to Go Offline?

My PW has dropped out a couple of times midday last several days (starting Friday, it seems) - on 22.1.1 b0ec2432 - possibly trying to do an update? I've ended up resetting the PW each time after it's been off for ~ an hour to recover it. Not sure what is going on, will likely have to call in...

    Gateway reporting before PTO?

After two weeks, my nearly daily call in to T1 support to check progress landed on the same person who cut the ticket 2 weeks back. Discussion: Tesla Energy / Auto Customer Service

Comcast will roll a truck within 24 hours, which is certainly far better than tesla. Tier 2 Tesla is backed up from 2-3 days (their stated response time) to 10+ days. Upside (I hope) is that the system(s) should be fairly stable once the initial shake out period. Hopefully. My only suggestion is...

    Gateway reporting before PTO?

How do I get ahold of someone who will actually do something? I managed to get enough power to the powerwall for it to charge back up to 20% or so by flipping the main breaker (ie, physically disconnected from grid) - so now I can force powerwall charging again by "going off grid" via the...
