24h World Record with an electric production car 1,506 mi including charging

Yes, we did it in very detail. There is an optimal speed, an optimal distance and an optimal charge time which all fit to each other. We fitted curves to measured data points for the energy usage and the charge speed. Then we were able to figure out where the optimum was. That depended on the...

24h World Record with an electric production car 1,506 mi including charging

We used a Samsung Galaxy S4 with the setting GPS-High Resolution.

24h World Record with an electric production car 1,506 mi including charging

@bhzmark The average driving speed had been higher (80+mph). This is completely legal on German Autobahns. There had been short distances with speed limits at 75mph and 80mph. The Autopilot works up to 93mph. It got better at that speeds after the last update.

24h World Record with an electric production car 1,506 mi including charging

On the weekend June 18.+19. 2016 (noon to noon) we drove a new world record for electric production cars on German Autobahns. The GPS-Tracker counted up to 1,506 mi (2,424 km). On the screen the Model S P85D showed 1,517 mi (2,442 km). We started at the newly built Supercharger at Ulm...

    Firmware 6.0

Yes! For me, this is not V6 but 5.15. They gave us a few new and nice gimmiks. But the giant leap of a major revision is lacking. You can see this by looking at the detailed version number. It still starts with 1.64. This is just a few builts further down the road than V5.12. They have just...

Discharging at High Speed (>100 mph)

The fuel consumption depends on the speed. Regardless whether its gas or electrons. The main influence have the aerodynamic drag coefficient and the front area of the car. Due to the fact that our car has one of the best drag coefficients, our fuel consumption does not rise as fast as for ICE...

    Nürburgring lap time for P85+?

I emptied my battery in just over 1 hour on the German Autobahn. Here is the link. I stayed at max 1C (80kW). That was most often good for 125mph on flat ground. Avg. speed was over 100mph. I rarely saw the yellow line. Only when I accelerated at SOC <25%. The Model S is imho no race car but a...

    My 40,000 Mile Battery Report

I am doing the same with some additional rules: 1. In summer I charge only to 80% 2. If it is very hot (> 75F) I stay at 70% 3. I do not charge every day, only if I have to to reach my destination. 4. I do not drive to less than 20% range to keep the current low. I learned from a video of Prof...

Discharging at High Speed (>100 mph)

I am living in Germany and have a normal Model S 85kWh. We use km/h instead of mph in Germany. Please note, that 1 mile equals 1,609 kilometers. I waited months for a perfect time to drive my fully topped up battery empty at a very high velocity. There are no speed limits on German Autobahns...

    19" Turbine Wheel Solution

@kevincwelch I took the factory mounted tires of the rims two days after getting the car. And I asked my tire dealer to check the balance of a wheel. It was close to perfectly balanced. I had not expected that.

    Winter tire recommendations

I wanted to have the 19" rims out of two reasons. First you need less energy due to the thinner tires than on the 21". Second the comfort on 19" is better than on 21". I had a test drive in both. Finally I had the 19" with air suspension. Unfortunately, the wheels came with the suboptimal...

    19" Turbine Wheel Solution

Hello, I think you mounted the wheels the wrong way. Typically they should move the air into the wheelhousing and the brakes. Perhaps it would not make any difference, because we do not use our brakes very often.

    Driving style...

I live 30ml outside Munich/Germany at an Autobahn (no speed limit ). I am selfemployed so that I do not have to drive during rush hours. If I am heading for Munich I stay at 110-115mph. Max. speed of my nonperformance Model S is 127mph. Elon said at a talk in Munich, that there will be a...

Upgraded to 22's and ate 20% efficiency

Sorry to say this. But moving to broader wheels and not expecting less efficiency is somewhat unrealistic. Tesla tried to reduce wind resistance by optimizing the Cd factor and you are increasing the surface area of the car Cda. Look at a BMW i3 - they come with very thin tires like 155mm. This...

I feel like a celebrity driving my Model S:rolleyes: In Austria Swarowski has one. I think we will soon see cars all over with glass jewelry

European Car of the Year 2014

Being an engineer in Germany I know how motor journalists are 'fed' by our industry. I hope the vote is secret. If so, our Model S will win. If not ...

European Owners: which adapters come with the car?

In Germany the car came with a 230V 16A Schuko (black) and a 3 phase 230/400V 16A (red) adapter. I heard of a blue one, which is typically used by German RVs and has 1 phase with more than 16 amps.
