Blog Tesla Invites Consumers to Experience the Tesla Arcade

Yes! Thanks for this! Although I've mostly given up saying this myself (owner since 2013)...I'm always amazed at how poor the music systems are (I've got a long list of bugs, poor UI and functional implementations) given the other advanced capabilities. I'm in the music business, and very few...

New Model X shows huge vampire drain vs. previous MS

That would be ironic. My wife and I were driving down to Fremont to trade in the S and pick up the X. We stopped at the Petaluma SC for a coffee and quick shot and the car died. Wouldn't start, wouldn't charge. Had to have it towed 90 miles to Fremont to trade it in. The techs said it was the...

Just came out to the garage. Car is back in jack mode.

New Model X shows huge vampire drain vs. previous MS

Just ran out through the pouring rain to check. Smart Preconditioning OFF, Energy Saving ON. BUT...the weird thing...the car was in Jack Mode. It was charging and couldn't get it out of Jack Mode without removing the charge cord (for obvious reasons). I certainly didn't put it in Jack Mode. And...

New Model X shows huge vampire drain vs. previous MS

I'll stop VT for the time being, see if that helps. But again, the comms systems should not pull this kind of current. Thanks for the sanity checks. A couple of miles per day was how my S was. Something is not right. This amount of current would indicate something like a heater is on. I just...

New Model X shows huge vampire drain vs. previous MS

I don't check it often. But I do have Visible Tesla running remotely...that's how I know that it's charging more than once a day. However, I ran Visible Tesla with the Model S as well, without this drain. And I notice that whenever I do check it with the app, it's never sleeping, always wide...

New Model X shows huge vampire drain vs. previous MS

Traded in my 2013 Models S for a Model X on December 20. Due to holiday travel and subsequent cold/flu, haven't driven it much. But wow...nearly twice a day it loses 10 or more miles of charge and then recharges...far more than my Model S ever did. I called Tesla service and the woman I got...

    8.0 Music Player Unusable

YES! FIX THE USB INTERFACE! ....sorry about the shouting...although I'd use larger caps if I could...I really feel angry every time I encounter these issues...which is basically every time I get in the car...

GACK. Tesla 8.0 Media Player makes Windows 95 look brilliant.

    Firmware 8.0

I just got mine. GACK. I would NOT buy a Tesla with this Media Player interface. All Streaming. All the Time. (which I hate, since there's minimal AT&T connectivity around here). My 1TB music hard disk no longer works. I am furious.

    8.0 Music Player Unusable

Not just road trips. Most of the area surrounding my home and driving areas don't have connectivity. I've always depended on a USB hard drive for my music in the Tesla. Disaster. Wouldn't buy the car today with this.

Alloy Gators Rim Protection (Pics and info)

I've had the Alloygators since January 2014 -- a pack comes with 5 of them and I just replaced one of the four with the fifth after I "touched" a curb...real easy to do with these cars...and the gator took the gash, not the rim. Took me maybe 30 minutes to replace it (I put them on myself two...

    Shuffle!

Yes indeed, that's why Tesla's crude last century implementation is embarrassing, and maddening considering the price we paid for a premium sound system. And I totally agree. The car is great even though the sound system's interface is primitive at best. I think Tesla should know of buyers'...

    Shuffle!

"By Genre", what I do is first select a Genre, then select any single song from the resulting list of songs, then press Shuffle. Since my genres all have many thousands of songs in them, that's Random enough for me. "By Artist" doesn't work so well. For some silly reason, when you select "By...

    Shuffle!

That's roughly how a playlist works...instead of a folder full of duplicated songs, it's a list of those same songs, each item in the list points to the song somewhere on the drive. Tesla needs to add playlist capability to their USB interface. It's not too hard to program, and there are several...
  16. C

    Shuffle!

Yeah, so it appears to be random playback, not a shuffled list. Traditionally, with playback software, Random playback of songs is when the next song could be any one of the list of 4000 (even the same one as played previously). Shuffle mode creates a new list that is randomized from top to...

    Shuffle!

Yeah, you're right. Although personally I don't want to hear the same stuff over and over, so I don't keep a favorites list or collection. But what I do is partition my Terabyte drive into a lot of smaller partitions (by "small" I mean maybe 50 gigabytes or so, not really so small unless you...

    Shuffle!

Thank you Tesla! With a Terabyte of Tunes on my USB drive, I had no way to fully enjoy them. I'd usually pick a genre, and hit a song randomly somewhere and let it play alphabetically from there. But I have lots of duplicates (from compilations and re-released albums, or alternate takes) and...

    Playlists on USB

All this discussion about kludgy ways to get the Tesla music system to function as well as a Windows 95 system just about says it all. You should be embarrassed, Tesla. I have a 1 terabyte hard drive in the car, which contains a fraction of my music collection (all legal, for those who were...

Supercharger - Barstow (EXPANDED, 5 stalls added, now 16 total)

Stopped at Barstow today (Thursday before the Labor Day weekend) on the way back from a Santa Fe trip. Talked to one of the construction guys. He said 4 of the 8 new stalls there are completed, and Tesla paid the contractors big $$$ to get them done before Labor Day. BUT...the power company...

Supercharger - Las Vegas, NV - Bridger Ave.

FYI - I stopped at the LV Supercharger late Friday night for a charge. I pulled into the charger on the left side as you enter, furthest one in (I think...my memory may be hazy after a 15 hour drive. I don't recall the charger/bay number). Anyway, I couldn't get it to charge. The Tesla ring...

Can Tesla Mobile Connector be used as a J1772 source device?

Not quite. The Ford Ranger EV has an on-board 5.5 kW charger. The original PCS unit (EVSE) required a 40 amp circuit.

    Playlists on USB

It should be trivial to fix a lot of the missing features of the audio system...including a more modern disk format, shuffle mode and .m3u playlist support. But they've shown no inclination to fix these or other sorely needed audio system features. Audio people to whom I've shown the audio...

Can Tesla Mobile Connector be used as a J1772 source device?

Yeah, options abound. Lots of great info in the link above. I wonder if we'll get to keep the UMC when the update units go out?

Can Tesla Mobile Connector be used as a J1772 source device?

Hi - I have a Tesla Model S. I just picked up a 1999 Ford Ranger Electric pickup truck with a NiMH battery pack. The truck is not running and I'm starting to diagnose what's wrong. The truck has an onboard charger but didn't come with any external charger/connector. I can convert the truck's...

Alloy Gators Rim Protection (Pics and info)

Hi - I installed my Alloy Gators today. It was a straightforward installation and they look good. But a question: There was no way I could get the car to stay in neutral without the emergency brake going on when I left the car. Although several people in this thread said to power off the car...

    Browser homepage Collection

Oh. My. God. I feel so dumb. I'm always bitching to my wife that I can't see the tiny clock on the interface. "What time is it, dear? I can't see the f**g clock..." (I don't need glasses to drive, only to see tiny fonts on sunny screens...) Why didn't I think of a web page clock? THANKS! Now...

    Any iPod Bluetooth adapter recommendations?

Yeah, a bit depressing. I just assumed it would be a spectacular audio system, like the rest of the car, so I never examined it before I bought. Sigh. Anyway, back to the original question: has anyone had decent luck with any kind of bluetooth adapter for iPods? It would be nice if it could be...

    Any iPod Bluetooth adapter recommendations?

Yep. The sad thing is that the simple way to connect an iPod to the Model S is to connect an FM transmitter to the iPod and receive it on the Tesla FM radio, poor sound quality and all. Just like I had to do with my '90s cars when the iPods first came out. Maybe Tesla can market this as a...

    Any iPod Bluetooth adapter recommendations?

I've had my MS for two weeks and my only real complaint regards the audio/phone system. It's very frustrating (unattractive UI, no audio input jack, USB: no iPod or iPhone connectivity or interface, clunky database library, no shuffle, no playlists, etc., Bluetooth: can't have separate phone and...

    Audio compilations on USB

I think the real solution would be playlist support. That (and lack of shuffle) make the music player implementation mediocre, IMO.
