    Model Y tyres

I got the Hankook Ion Evos two months ago. They are much quieter and seemingly a smoother ride than the Pirellis. Not cheap, but we're very happy with them.

Recommended cleaning products (Australia based) for Model Y

I have PPF and a pressure washer, but out here the bugs are too numerous and too stubborn. Without NXTZEN (which was the best of several potions I tried), the pressure washer gets maybe 80% of the mess. With PPF on, I can get really close to the surface, but not good enough without the cleaner.

Recommended cleaning products (Australia based) for Model Y

NXTZEN Super Clean is amazingly effective for removing insect remains off the front and the mirrors. I buy the 5 litre size. Highly recommended. The guys that did my PPF use it.

    Wide Turns with basic AP

This is a constant problem on non-divided roads. Also horribly bad is TACC panicing when an oncoming car appears around a bend. All cars are nicely in their lanes, but a hard slowdown ensues. Really quite poor.

Autopilot needs manual lane change without disengage

Just buy the Commander from enhauto. Best features are autopilot resume after lane change and "kickdown" mode that makes driving in chill mode much better. No need for the S3XY buttons themselves but the Commander is brilliant.

They're not uninformed. They're informed by Sky News, The Australian and Fox News. The cream of the crop.

The state of journalism - SAD

Non-article but with a little gem of insight inside. I do realise the word "journalism" should never be used in reference to the Daily Mail. "The energy that is stored in the battery of a Tesla vehicle is used to kick-start a small motor that is fitted inside which generates the power to...

    Supercharger - Richmond VIC

I have a service there 31 January and I seems they have service timeslots into February. So not closing the centre imminently.

    Premium Connectivity Availability

Possibly because the car park operator installed a 3G-only repeater. Our high rise had one for the interior.

    Wireless Charging Roads?

Yep. The same people ask me why the car doesn't do regen 100% of the time to enable a longer trip.

    Wireless Charging Roads?

Take-down of this latest boondoggle, with Aussie accent. Slightly annoying voice but spot on.

Suddenly; "unable to locate vehicle" message- anyone?

Tesla changed the API recently and all apps that use it to obtain location were required to change how they called the API. Perhaps you were not getting the phone app update for some reason.

    2023.32.6 autopilot speed limit change?

Now that the ruination of Twitter is complete, I suppose he has more time to devote to screwing up usability of Tesla software. I don't know of an emoji to convey my feelings on this. Autopilot is now a pain in the backside.

Phantom Braking getting worse - any ideas on how to stop it?

That's my experience as well. On rural roads, specific tree shadows in a few areas used to consistently cause Autopilot PB. Not anymore. Very happy. Another commenter mentioned that Autopilot uses raw camera data (photon data). I thought this was for FDSb only?

Describe your initial impressions upon new delivery of 2023 Model Y

Not yet but it is highly annoying. Glad I'm not the only one who has this issue.

Describe your initial impressions upon new delivery of 2023 Model Y

MYP here. Comfort suspension is very harsh. Low profile tyres are a joke, as moderate driving in Melbourne CBD resulted in one ruined tyre within the first week. Kudos to Tesla roadside assistance. Otherwise, the car is a brilliant upgrade from our M3 long range.

    Ceramic coating after two years?

I'm not an expert, but I'm unsure why small scratches would affect the effectiveness of ceramic coating. Having just had my new white Y PPF'd all over and ceramic coated on the rear view mirrors and front "bug catcher" damn, I am thrilled with how easily the bug waste is removed. Unbelievably...

New owner Model Y owner with some questions

I've found I need to wake my iPhone so the display is on. I don't need to unlock it. This seems to work 100%.
  19. O

    Full Self Drive In Australia

You can purchase the upgrade, try it for 24 hours (maybe more? unsure), then ask for refund in the app. I did that with performance boost. Good way to confirm value or lack thereof.

    Run Flats

I was in Melbourne, but friends have used the service in a regional city and were equally happy. Noosa isn't exactly the bush, after all. I would expect excellent service, as Tesla contracts with third parties to provide this service and Tesla seems to drive them pretty hard to be responsive...

    Run Flats

Total time was 90 minutes from my request in the app to job done. They communicated well throughout. The van parked near my car in a multilevel car park. Jacked the car and replaced the wheel with a loaner. Next day Tesla rang to schedule replacement with a new tyre.
  22. O

    Run Flats

Call Tesla and ask about roadside assist coverage in your area. The service is brilliant. I used them recently after a small pothole destroyed a tyre on my brand new MYP. These tyres are going to be a nightmare.
  23. O

    Run Flats

I don't know the answer wrt tyres, but the ride in a model Y is harsh enough with normal tyres. I suspect it would be much worse with run-flats. Extrapolating from my experience with a Mini Cooper Paceman.

    Model-Y Comprehensive Insurance Recommendation

We are far from any city, let alone a capital city. Anyone know of a roo bar designed for the MYP?

    Model-Y Comprehensive Insurance Recommendation

MYP with AAMI is $1100 with max excess and full glass. We went with AAMI for our 3LR also.

Why are TACC, AP (and ?FSD) so bad?

I call it "Shadow Unaware Cruise Control System", as it seems to mistake shadow patterns on the road for an obstacle or oncoming vehicle. SUCCS is fine for me on divided highways, but a real pain on rural roads. At least they finally made auto-headlights work well.

    Autopilot Nag Reduction Devices

He's got a point. No condescention detected here. I have a weight too. Now not even a decent paperweight.
  29. O

    40.X and steering Wheel weight?

I often use autopilot on rural roads, more out of curiosity than need. It handles 90 degree turns perfectly-- better, in fact, than wide sweeping turns that see it move over the centreline.
  30. O

    40.X and steering Wheel weight?

I've used a weight for some time because I found the torque sensing hand on wheel was annoyingly insensitive. With this latest release, it appears they've really improved the smarts such that I find it easy to have my hand on the wheel without needing to consciously move the wheel so much. Big...

    Newbie autopilot question

You will receive a range of opinions on this. My experience with Autopilot on our '22 model 3 is that it works extremely well on divided highways, which is its intended use. On rural two lane roads, it is somewhat useful but hugs the centreline too closely and sometimes brakes hard because it...

    Zoom Conferencing Coming to Tesla

Software does work like that. Choose to spend much more time each sprint fixing rather than enhancing. The referenced book correctly calls out you can't throw labour at a problem and expect a linear (or any, depending) improvement in time to deliver. You can, however, adjust priorities to...
  33. O

    Zoom Conferencing Coming to Tesla

... and asking why they spend their labour on this type of crap instead of fixing the fundamental issues with TACC, auto headlights, etc. They should pause all functional enhancement work and focus for three months on fixing critical defects.

First Time Owner, Autopilot and FSD feedback

Maybe it's just a Texas thing, as our service in Australia is top notch. I always get a quick response via the app and the experience at the service centre has been far better than my experience with Hyundai, Mazda, Saab, Lexus, etc. We still have one ICE vehicle and I dread taking it for service.
  35. O

    36.X and Steering Wheel Weight?

Since upgrading to 30.6, I've gotten this behaviour several times with a weight attached. I was always looking ahead at the road. I've never gotten it when not using the weight-- just the normal nags. I'm thinking what's now required is a small motor in the weight to wiggle another small...

    Gen3 Wall Connector API?

What do you mean by "I don't believe in using cloud tools for things that can be abused?" The Tesla cloud talks to your car whether or not you use the Tesla API, so your use of it won't add to any vulnerability that exists. Might as well use it, as it will solve your problem easily.

Could TESLA use Starlink Satellites for more Precise Navigation

"The entire country of Ukraine is relying on the signal accuracy of Starlink to make military strikes" Evidence? I believe they are using it like we all do... For connectivity, so their forces can communicate with each other.
  38. O

What are you Aussies getting for cellular speeds in your cars?

You need Starlink. How about 250mbps down. Nearly every house here has a Starlink antenna.
  39. O

Why does FSD hug the center line-- even sometimes crossing over?

I've found that reducing speed to roughly 10% under the speed limit nearly eliminates this autopilot behaviour on rural two lane roads. I wonder if the cause is excessive latency in a PID loop? Maybe a control systems engineer could weigh in.
  40. O

What are you Aussies getting for cellular speeds in your cars?

In rural Australia, where our speed is 4G and constrained by the backhaul, I get 34mbps down and 24mbps up. Will be interesting to see what people in a capital city get.

    Superchargers in Australia

Starlink is now installed atop the Colac VIC Supercharger. It wasn't there a week ago. I didn't have a chance to see if the car would connect to the Starlink wifi. Anyone else had a play with this? Apparently, the car should automatically connect.

Y RWD Supercharging 170 kW Max?

Yes, understand. Is this spec new for the RWD or has it always been 170? The old page didn't mention 170.
  44. O

Y RWD Supercharging 170 kW Max?

This is a change to the Y RWD specs page detected today. Is this a change to the spec (e.g. now maxed at 170kW) or just correcting an error in the page? It previously was silent on the max rate and just mentioned "pay per use." **************************************************************...

    Ampol AmpCharge network

At least Ampol are leading the way compared to their peers. There's a brand new from the ground up BP servo in Colac, VIC. Not a charger in site. That's not an issue for us Tesla owners, but the nearest non-Tesla fast charger is 90 minutes away. Many people are saying SAD.

Apply light force to steering wheel 5 seconds after applying force to wheel

You nailed it. I also feel like I'm supervising and paying more attention to potential threats all around me. Not having to focus on the minutiae allows me to think more defensively. Searching for wildlife that might be nearly invisible on the side of the road at night takes a lot of attention...

    2022.20.6 bugs

Agree on #2. Mine now intermittently changes target speed based on speed limit signs (old style...not LED). Autopilot was very good in this regard before this version. It actually changes the Max Speed displayed but AP ignores it and carries on as if there's no change.
