I can't answer for EU cars, but yes, US cars have two reverse lights. If EU cars have a single reverse light, is this a EU requirement?

I also tested this harness for a reverse signal (to silence front parking sensors while in reverse) a few months back. While I'm not 100% sure I got every pin, I couldn't find the one I wanted. I only tested the driver side, the two huge connectors near the floor. As you noted, it's a real pain...

Sounds like replacing the carpets is a fairly large project, but doable. Any reason you don't want to just use new floor mats? I got some gray mats from Lloyds which work well. Whichever way you go, I really like having lighter carpets as it makes the car more enviting, and I can find things...
