    Canada Waiting Room

Same as what you list (white exterior, black interior, 5 seats, 19" Gemini wheels, no FSD) except with the tow package.
  2. P

    Canada Waiting Room

I think you're right. It just changed back to possibly-this-week: January 15 - February 12. OMG so much turmoil caused by one stupid change for one day!
  3. P

    Canada Waiting Room

My EDD was January 17 - February 14 for quite some time. Last week (I think on Thursday) it changed to January 13 - January 27. I am paying cash, so I scrambled to get all the required cash into my chequing account just in case it really was coming on the 13th. This morning I checked and my...

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

Interesting. It only showed up today in mine.
  5. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

Yay! Does anyone know how long it takes to show up in the car? That hasn't happened yet, for my car anyway. I will be interested to see how much traffic there is once the site is shown on the map in people's cars.
  6. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

I have no way of testing it, but it looks like 3 of the 4 flo chargers are ready to go too. $0.25/min max 50 kW.
  7. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

It’s alive! It also currently appears to be free. Maybe the billing doesn’t happen until the site appears on the in-car map? 😀
  8. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

Exactly. He was very wary of promising anything too soon, as I would be in the same situation. My bet is that he will be done today.
  9. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

Cache creek, Williams Lake, Quesnel, Prince George. As you might expect. He goes from one to the next, no set schedule just get it done and go on to the next one. I saw inside the cabinet and inside the stall. Very cool. Tesla doesn’t want pictures of the insides posted, so I will respect...

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

The transformer is installed and the Tesla commissioning guy is here. He says it should be done for sure by Friday, probably before that.
  11. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

Beat me to it! I noticed there were people working on it this afternoon after 5, right up until 10pm.
  12. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

Yup, it was supposed to be 3.2. So the maximum of 250 kW cannot be achieved simultaneously at more than a fraction of the stalls?
  13. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

How big would you expect a transformer supplying 3.3 MW to be? I was going to get a picture, but as I noted above the truck is gone now. :)
  14. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

I don't think so - the pad is about as wide as a truck, and that whole assembly of heat sinks is just cantilevered out. Regardless, it looks like this is not the transformer for the Supercharger.
  15. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

And you are correct. I think. The truck moved this morning, and i see no activity at the Supercharger location. I'm sorry if I got anyone's hopes up.
  16. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

I wasn't able to take the pictures, I asked a friend to take them. Am I wrong that it's a transformer? I'm not sure what else would need massive heat sinks like that. I can't read the data plate from the photo. I can go by there tomorrow.
  17. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

There is a flatbed truck parked in Vernon which has an interesting load: I can't think where else this transformer would be going. Or am I way off? (For sure there is still no transformer on the pad at the Vernon Supercharger site. No electrical meter. No power.)
  18. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

It does indeed seem that the Vernon Supercharger and flo installation is complete! Except for the small matter of connecting to the power grid, that is. The pad for the transformer from BC Hydro is empty, and there is no meter. Other than that, though:

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

There seems to always be someone working there, even on the weekend at 8pm. Here's a similar set of pictures to the last set, but this time the wires are pulled through and, most importantly, there is an important addition: GARBAGE RECEPTACLES! I think this is where the utility transformer...
  20. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

It does not look copper colour to me. I think you're right, I think that's aluminum wire.
  21. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

I find these things fascinating, so I am going to bombard you with more photos. :) The cabinets are all open, so you can see the transformers and other innards. First, the Tesla Superchargers: Next, the flo CCS chargers: Here's a view along the row of Superchargers, with the CCS...
  22. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

The Flo charging stations are in, and it looks like 3 Supercharger cabinets for 12 stalls.
  23. P

    Supercharger - Vernon, BC

They are pouring concrete today. It looks like 12 stalls.
  24. P

    Supercharger - Maple Creek, SK

If you go slowly and you wear a toque and scarf and parka (guess why) then it's doable. :-) But, yeah, hopefully there's going to be another site in the middle between these two. When it gets to -20 C or colder it's really no fun going more than 150 km at a time. It's just brutal. (Speaking...

Locked out of the car. Just about to give up on Tesla.

Ummm... it depends which part of B.C. The interior of B.C., especially at higher elevations, can be brutally cold. Coastal B.C., however, is much, much milder than Michigan. The current temperature is 10 C, or 50 F. More often than not, we don't get any snow on the ground in the winter.

Locked out of the car. Just about to give up on Tesla.

Thank you! I will take a look. The 12V battery was replaced this morning. The car charged at the Supercharger without incident. The initial power was 17 kW, ramping up to 31 kW when the battery reached 1%, 38 kW at 2%, etc... At 10% the power was 75 kW, at 15% 83 kW, at 20% 87 kW, at 25% 92...

Locked out of the car. Just about to give up on Tesla.

Are you suggesting that a P90D X, well, now a P100D X, does not cost $200,000 Cdn? The price of a six-seat P100D X, with autopilot, is currently $196,100 Cdn. Plus $1300 "destination and regulatory doc fee". Never mind the $24,000 in tax you'll pay on top of that. Plus extra cost if you buy...

Locked out of the car. Just about to give up on Tesla.

Thanks everyone for your comments! Yes, he's a good friend. Still. :-) Having a separate power source from the HV battery does seem unavoidable, but the problem I see in particular with Tesla's design is: a) they have a very large power draw at all times - heck, even in "energy saver" mode...

Locked out of the car. Just about to give up on Tesla.

The fuses look ok. This 12V battery is a real weakness of the car. That and the fact that there is a constant high power draw of roughly 1 kWh per day, which seems to be a big contributor to the early death of 12V batteries.

Locked out of the car. Just about to give up on Tesla.

Ironically, there is a storm here and the power is out at the Supercharger anyway.

Locked out of the car. Just about to give up on Tesla.

Ok, so the latest I he Thank you! Yes, I was just talking to the roadside assistance person. She says the HV battery will be fine. She also suggested that the 12V battery is not charged once the HV battery gets below 10%, even while driving. I was not aware of that. I'm not sure that's...

Locked out of the car. Just about to give up on Tesla.

From the owner's manual: "Caution: If the Battery’s charge level falls to 0%, you must plug it in. If you leave it unplugged for an extended period, it may not be possible to charge Model X or use the vehicle without jump starting or replacing the 12V battery. Leaving Model X unplugged for an...

Locked out of the car. Just about to give up on Tesla.

Update: 6 hours with no phone call, despite my having called in the middle and being assured a return call in about an hour. Their plan? A tech can go see the car on Wednesday. I asked about the process of jump-starting the car. It seems, as expected, that there is nothing special about it...

Locked out of the car. Just about to give up on Tesla.

It should show in the logs, but no I'm pretty sure there is no picture of it. To be clear, this is a 2016 Model X, not a 2013 Model S. I traded the S in for the X.
  35. P

Locked out of the car. Just about to give up on Tesla.

The car was stopped at a traffic light when it died. The 12V is being boosted according to Tesla's instructions. Again, I am not there, but I gather that the tow company (contracted by Tesla) did it.

Locked out of the car. Just about to give up on Tesla.

I've been an owner since 2013, originally a Model S 85, now a Model X P90D. Problems that arose with the S were dealt with well, overall. Last year the X died while plugged into 240V, just shut down and would not wake up again. It had to be taken on a flatbed to a service centre that takes...

    Supercharger - Victoria, BC

It is curious that there's an EV marking on the asphalt there. The only thing I can say for sure is that there definitely is a conduit for a Tesla supercharger stall for that parking spot. Hopefully it doesn't mean that only one out of all of those parking stalls is reserved for EVs (Teslas)...
  38. P

    Supercharger - Victoria, BC

Oh, I should add: having 16 or 20 Superchargers on the same level as the ONE CHAdeMO/CCS charger should do wonders for Model 3 sales in Victoria. :) All the LEAFs, i3s, Bolts, etc. have to share one charger which is far lower power and has been out of order for significant lengths of time in...

    Supercharger - Victoria, BC

It's at least 16 stalls. I suspect it's 20. I didn't walk behind the yellow tape to find out for sure. The concrete work appears to be complete. i.e. concrete cut, conduit installed, concrete poured. The cables all appear to be pulled all the way from the electrical room two floors up. It...

    Mid-Canada Superchargers

Good analysis, though you are only looking in the one direction. What about large population centres that already have a significant "installed base" of customers who may want to *go* somewhere not currently served? This would be the reason why Superchargers were built in Barrie and Huntsville...

    Mid-Canada Superchargers

There aren't large elevation changes across Iowa and Nebraska! The conditions would be similar on the Canadian prairies, only on average colder. As for large elevation changes - have you driven highway 17 along the north shore of Lake Superior? There are some definite hills there. You're...

    Mid-Canada Superchargers

I have some recent experience that may be of interest here. I drove a Model X P90D across I-80 through Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, etc. at the end of December 2017. Temperatures were typically below -20C. I was actually shocked that it was that cold. Anything more than 120 km apart and...

    Supercharger - Sudbury, ON

Exactly. I have driven across northern Ontario in the summer. It is barely feasible then. It would be impossible to do in cold temperatures. So, from Timmins I had to go south toward Toronto, then out the 401 to cross into the U.S. at Detroit, then I carried on *past* Chicago on I-80 rather...

    Supercharger - Sudbury, ON

I haven't charged to 100% in some time. In fact, the last time would have been in Timmins to make the trip to Sudbury. I keep the display on % charge, not km estimated, so I don't have the number easily at hand, but I believe it was something like 402 km. Long term average, including time in...

    Supercharger - Sudbury, ON

Thanks. I am biased too. :) I've lived in Victoria since 1999, I was just in Ontario to pursue a flying career. I now have an airline job back in B.C. Yes, I drove right past it. It is good to know it is there, but I would not try it unless I was desperate. What if it doesn't work, and...

    Supercharger - Sudbury, ON

I promised a trip report if I tried Timmins to Sudbury. Tesla Model X P90D in darkness and temperatures as low as -25 C. Here's the short version: 1. It can be done. 2. Don't do it. In more detail: I charged to 100% at the Tru-Nor truck centre on the west side of Timmins. It's 292 km from...

    Supercharger - Sudbury, ON

I will hopefully be passing through in a week (from Timmins). I would be happy to let you fully inspect my X. Thank you for all the local reporting, I am very grateful. Having this Supercharger makes a huge difference to me!
