14 Months of leasing a Tesla, now time to move on.

Pretty sure there not needed on any car nowadays amount that don’t use them🤷🏼‍♂️. But I’ll try remember🤣, never had any issues with previous beemers so should be ok😜

Well took a bit of a detour after test driving all the cars I mentioned. XC60 - gearbox like waking grandad up after a couple of whisky, when wanting to accelerate. Wife didn’t like the narrow footwells caused by massive centre console either. F-Pace - gearbox a bit quicker but still slow to...

I have had the AEB come on when I went around a bend (in Cologne iirc). It saw a pedestrian on the pavement and came on (no one was in danger). Thought the car had broken for a second before I realised what was happening. That was on a previous car when AEB was fairly new though, hence my...

14 Months of leasing a Tesla, now time to move on.

Why would I keep something I don’t personally get on with? That’s a bit monk horsehair shirtish to me. The tech, the plastic seats, awful windscreen wipers aren’t going to change and the cruise is only going to get more overbearing in the push to automate everything🤷🏼‍♂️ I don’t use the...

maybe it is, maybe I misunderstood it’s purpose but never having been in a position of needing automated braking I couldn’t say for sure

And that sums it up perfectly for UK. You leave a TACC (or adaptive CC) acceptable gap & some prat pulls into it causing Tacc to panic. Unfortunately plebian fecktards have been allowed to breed in UK and spawned even more plebian fecktards, then just to screw with everyone else, they’ve been...

Pretty much sums up my feeling about the car in general tbf. Ducks & covers 🪖

As I already said, I visit cities very little, never liked them from being a kid. I don’t drive that often in commuter traffic nor rush time either😁, in that respect I consider myself very fortunate. My commute to work is a 90mile journey once every 2 weeks now and around mid afternoon on those...

14 Months of leasing a Tesla, now time to move on.

I only used cruise when traffic is flowing, never if traffic is heavy. Most modern cars under 10yr old now have autonomous emergency braking so it’s an issue that’s been made up to sell a gizmo, based on a problem that doesn’t necessitate it imo. Having said that it seems the post has become...

Cars with dumb cruise have automatic braking too but only in emergency situations. They don’t suddenly slow down randomly when changing lanes, which does happen in my M3. Nor do they switch the wipers onto auto when switching on cruise, something that has happened during a recent update🤷🏼‍♂️

14 Months of leasing a Tesla, now time to move on.

I disagree you can see a long way in front and react to it easily without thinking about applying the brakes. I’m certainly smoother than any adaptive cruise that I’ve tried which only reacts to the car immediately in front. Love the tarring of BMW / SUV drivers too, I’ve seen many cases of...

14 Months of leasing a Tesla, now time to move on.

Probably a lot of it is the anticipation of when are the brakes coming on and when is it going to accelerate once the road is clear. I know when I’m going to use a control I don’t know when the TACC will. Never liked fairground / amusement park rides either tbf, TACC reminds me of both🤣
  14. Xdama

14 Months of leasing a Tesla, now time to move on.

Depends how you drive or want to drive. If you’ve always been someone who drives watching the car immediately in front and braking then TACC won’t feel much different. If however you’ve always driven anticipating by watching several cars in front then braking to slow down is a last resort. It’s...

14 Months of leasing a Tesla, now time to move on.

Aren’t AP and adaptive separate things? I still on the occasions I do use adaptive have incidents of ghost braking especially if pulling into lane 2 from 3 with a truck in lane 1 (not necessarily right next to me as I pull in but some way in front). As I said previously I get that some people...
  16. Xdama

14 Months of leasing a Tesla, now time to move on.

I was taught to drive watching cars several in front so very rarely use my brakes when cruising. Adaptive cruise only looks at the car immediately in front and reacts to that. It’s just not a very smooth drive imo, so yes I’d rather pause a dumb cruise and let the car slow naturally rather than...

Plan is to use this as a stepping stone back to a permie job anyway. Contracting isn’t what it was when I started, rates have dropped consistently. Consequently I’m now in a position of sod working away from home, I may as well be home more. It also means keeping the company ticking over rather...

Love your optimism lol. An EV maybe ….. a Tesla very very very unlikely tbh, to quote Shania Twain “That Don’t Impress Me Much” ……at least in the current form.

I apologise profusely to The Teslarati for daring to dislike the M3 after having had the temerity to live with one for over 12months. I clearly have upset some people who are full converts ….. all I can say is I tried but it wasn’t for me, I keep trying olives too but still dislike them after...

As I already explained the car is leased through my company, due to next contract being Inside IR35 I cannot run a company car (thanks HMRC). Apparently the lease company can’t swap it to a private lease so consequently it’s sort of forced my hand, if I could’ve swapped I would & put up with my...

Suggest all you like, ultimately you love your Tesla, I don’t love mine, it really is that simple. I like lovely tactile physical controls you like a tablet. As I said earlier we’re all individual with individual taste, god forbid we all become clones that all like the same thing because the...

West Yorks is higher density population than any of those locations I’d say esp near Leeds / Bradford. Maybe see them out in the sticks a bit but the chances of hitting one are about the same as finding a truthful politician😜

Cheers Big D, believe me it’s not a decision taken lightly lol. Cost of cancelling the lease is around £5k but circumstances beyond my control have pushed me that way. I just thought I’d post my like / dislikes before making the change. The other thing that’s helped with the decision is the...

Just don’t like all the bells and whistles that are on pretty much all new cars (that are worth me looking at). I like to drive, not be driven, lane assist, adaptive cruise, *sugar* auto wipers and plastic sweaty seats are down there with Satans cock as far as I’m concerned …..I don’t want any of...

It may be that it’s more suited to the US as that’s where it was designed for. only wildlife I’ve ever seen crossing a road is a rabbit, deer and large animals are pretty rare in my neck of the UK lol. I only ever use TACC if the road is quiet in UK which is quite rare and sort of defeats the...

So after 14mths of leasing an M3 through the business I have decided to hand it back. Several reasons but an opportunity has come up which makes it a no brainer even with the early hand back charge. It has been a definite love hate relationship for me personally although I can understand why...

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

This was pretty much wifey’s response after the last time it happened. Iirc her words were “that 💩 stays off while I’m in the car or you get a kick in the cahones if it does that again” …….I’m not willing to risk it🤣🤣
  30. Xdama

2 EV Household - what else you got?

I’ve never owned a car with blind spot detection prior to the M3, never been an issue in over 30yrs driving, so fail to see it as a “need” on any car for me personally 🤷🏼‍♂️.
  31. Xdama

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

Plus 1 for that sentiment. I’m now at a stage where I never use TACC if wifey is in the car & I only use it if traffic is very light when I’m solo. It may as well be removed from the car for me personally, it just doesn’t fill me with confidence, which defeat’s the object of it imo.…….as I have...

Probably stick a nice premium on there too. Hence insurance companies reluctance to use them, same as other vehicle manufacturers.

    Where is the speakerphone microphone?

I have the same issue, never had an issue with any other car. Wonder if there’s a fault with the actual microphone.

    In car microphone sensitivity

Is there a way of increasing the phone microphone sensitivity/ volume? I’ve had it mentioned a few times during phone calls that I’m very quiet when making calls in the car (I’m not a quiet talker lol). I never had any issues on previous cars so wondering about the tesla microphone location...

Long delay replacing Model 3 Windscreen

So Tesla use National Windscreens for glass replacement🤔, can’t you just go straight to National Windscreens direct then? Or is this Tesla hiking the price hence why insurance companies not wanting to use Tesla?
  37. Xdama

Long delay replacing Model 3 Windscreen

Ime with all service centres not just Tesla, just because you’re booked in for a specific time it doesn’t mean your car starts getting worked on until well after that. I’ve caught a few out before by dropping my car off and walking or driving past a couple of hours later to see it still parked...

Long delay replacing Model 3 Windscreen

Rang my local autoglass manager yesterday for an update on the passenger window. He told me it was due today & would call me once he’d checked it over. Lo and behold this morning he called to say window is here & ok, when could I come in. I said anytime today or next time I’m home 8-9th June. He...

Tesla owners are 50% less likely to crash their EV than their other cars

As I said I’m not saying the TACC on the M3 is any worse than othe ACC cars ( shame it’s getting pushed on all from what I’ve read). The Passat ACC was awful too, so is wifey’s Hyundai Kona E, she knows how it should work, problem is it doesn work as it should🤷🏼‍♂️. But let’s stick a sentence...

Had an interesting conversation with a BMW salesman the other day about similar. I went for a nosy at the I4 (not overly impressed lol). I asked about adaptive & said I wasn’t a fan. The lanes were no narrower than any other part that I drove on from Wakefield to Mansfield tbh. I’d even gone past other trucks etc with no incidents which made it even more random. I’m not saying the M3 is any worse than any other ACC tbf either. Just that if they want an autonomous car they...

My previous BMW was aluminium too so that doesn’t wash, sorry😁. The quote I received was mostly labour costs to isolate the “HV”, the actual repair was around £300 iirc.

40mile trip down M1 today, thought I’d give TACC another try. 2 phantom brake occurrences, so still garbage. 1 when changing lane 3 to 2 with a truck in lane 1 I can accept a bit. The other in lane 2 no changing lane on a straight patch going past a coach, sorry not acceptable at all. No one...

Maybe but in UK we only have LV & HV unlike in the EU where they have an MV too lol. The Elctricity at Work Regs are for all electrical work, cars are no exception. I used to be a vehicle electrician in the forces and had to adhere to them then too😉

No it’s not high voltage ….. according to the Electricity at Work Regulations. I don’t make the regulations, I just have to adhere to them as should anyone else working with electricity🤷🏼‍♂️. I have seen the prices charged by BMW, I’ve owned 3 of them🤣, yes the service costs are high. Body...
