Who makes the absolute lightest and/or most efficient wheels for the Tesla Model 3 Performance, under $500 each?

I have the 18” EV01+ aero wheels paired with 235/45R18 PS4S tires on my M3P. I personally believe they’re the best combination of efficiency (aero) and weight reduction. They’re ~9-10lbs lighter per wheel compared to the stock 20” setup. They have similar efficiency to the OEM aero wheels...

    Cost to repair Rear bumper

FWIW, you can buy a new pre-painted rear bumper from Tesla for ~$840. They charge another ~$150 for labor if you want them to do the install.

    Selling price 22 M3P?

Carvana recently offered me $32k for my ‘22 M3P with 30k miles. Used values have plummeted over the past few months due to improved supply/demand and new car prices dropping combined with tax credits. Interest rates aren’t in our favor either. Unfortunately, most people trying to sell now...

Smaller and Lighter wheels make you faster, more efficient, and offer better road hazard protection.

Switched from the stock wheels to 18" EV01+ aero wheels with 235/45R18 PS4S tires. Managed to drop my 0-60mph PB from 3.20 to 3.09s. This was without any weight reduction beyond the wheel/tire setup. It's possible that with ideal conditions and removing the passenger & rear seats that I could...

Dragy low sats issue right before they released the new version?

This is happening to me and has gotten significantly worse over the past few days. I've always done my runs in the same location.

Power Delay [acceleration delay when pushing accelerator]

That’s a good 60-ft for the SHO! My 60’ is slightly slower in the M3P by a few hundredths. On average, the STI is ~1.78 whereas the M3P is ~1.82. The STI is mechanically stock with just a “stage 1” tune that I developed.
  7. EVolv3d

Power Delay [acceleration delay when pushing accelerator]

Agreed. My Dragy results confirm it as well. My ~300whp STI launches harder and is faster than my M3P from ~0-30mph (until I have to shift to 2nd gear). There's a very progressive ramp-up from ~0-5mph. This is followed by a torque dip in the rear motor. Acceleration continues as expected...

PPSW touch-up paint - is there a better source than Tesla for a more accurate match?

After seeing many positive reviews, I tried the PPSW touchup paint from TouchUpDirect and it was nowhere close to a match. It was significantly too white even with several layers of the pearl midcoat. My wife came out and said I should have just used Wite Out or nail polish. I didn't even...

Have You Purchased a Pre-Painted Bumper from Tesla?

FWIW, I tried to order a pre-painted rear bumper from my Tesla service center Initially, they stated they didn't "have the resources necessary in a timely manner". When I pressed that I just wanted to purchase the bumper and install it myself, they simply replied with "We do not sell painted...

how much does the windshield cost?

Tesla estimate as of yesterday. Parts (Windshield, sealant, etc.): $759.18 Labor: $301.00 Subtotal: $1060.18 Tax: $55.06 Total: $1,115.24

Smaller and Lighter wheels make you faster, more efficient, and offer better road hazard protection.

That's something that could be tested pretty easily if someone has access to a good set of sticky tires and a well prepped drag strip. Granted, wider/stickier tires wouldn't be ideal for the best 1/4 mile time.

Smaller and Lighter wheels make you faster, more efficient, and offer better road hazard protection.

I was looking at your charts and doing some analysis of my own and noticed an interesting trend. It does appear that Tesla may limiting the initial launch (~0-10mph range). It hits the "1.0G limit" that many mention and acceleration rapidly drops. You can actually see the rear motor torque...

Smaller and Lighter wheels make you faster, more efficient, and offer better road hazard protection.

I look forward to seeing the new leader on the Dragy leaderboard! The 3.07s 0-60mph record has been held for over a year now by EVNV. 88% SOC 19" Forged 20lb wheels 235/40/19 PS4S tires Removed backseat Lightweight "jockey" driver They had previously ran a 3.28s 0-60 at 87% SOC, stock...

Thanks for sharing all of the data! I'm also obsessed with data analysis :) I did my final Dragy testing today on my stock wheels/tires before swapping to the new setup in the coming weeks. I'd love to see my 0-60 drop by a tenth to 3.10 or below. I know I can't top the Dragy leaderboard...

lightweight wheels model 3 performance 0-60 testing

I figured out how he got his latest 3.02s 0-60mph & 7.17s 1/8-mile by checking his Instagram profile. He's posting the acceleration times from his new Harley Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycle as his M3P Dragy times. He has a video racing the two and it just so happens that the performance...

    Model 3 Performance...Plaid [speculation]

There's no denying that the motor/inverter design would yield an improvement in the M3P's performance & top-end power. We know that the M3P is capable of a bit more power as we've seen that the MYP (with a similar hardware configuration) has considerably more top-end. The MYP is rated at 16kW...

It is "Clear" That Tesla's Price Hikes Are Thanks to Gas Prices Increasing Demand and Awareness of EVs

lightweight wheels model 3 performance 0-60 testing

Luckily there's no proprietary "secret sauce" tuning with these cars unless a company figures out how to hack the controller to tune for more power without being blacklisted from OTA firmware updates, Supercharger charging, etc. AEM has standalone VCUs for Tesla motors swapped into non-Tesla...

lightweight wheels model 3 performance 0-60 testing

Yes, overall it's been very consistent for me. I've found that the strength of the GPS/satellite signal can vary in some locations and if the Dragy moves in the car during acceleration it can throw off the readings. One M3P Dragy user said that their Dragy fell off the dash and into the floor...

lightweight wheels model 3 performance 0-60 testing

Yeah, I think there are a few considerations: Wheel/tire setup Driver weight Any weight reduction (removing interior, rear seat, etc.) Error in the Dragy The Dragy isn't perfect and I wouldn't be surprised to see an anomaly here or there. For me, the importance isn't my best "one off" time...

lightweight wheels model 3 performance 0-60 testing

Thanks for sharing! As expected, these are nearly identical to my '22 M3P times. My best 0-60mph is 3.22 (on the street). My best 1/8 mile time is 7.32 @ 96.26mph. I haven't done many 1/8 mile passes, but there's not much room for improvement (maybe a few hundredths). I have tons of 0-60...

lightweight wheels model 3 performance 0-60 testing

I'm not saying that you're wrong, but I've yet to see evidence of the car being mechanically traction limited by the tire. The quickest M3Ps on Dragy & DragTimes run 235 width tires.. some even run 225s. I haven't seen a prepped, sticky drag strip or racing slicks make any significant...

lightweight wheels model 3 performance 0-60 testing

It should theoretically help, but the MYP is also rated and dynos at more power than the M3P. The MYP is rated at 393kW vs the US' M3P at 377kW (the difference coming from the rear motor). The US doesn't have the 393kW CAT3 3D6 M3P yet, only the 3D1. As you can see below, the MYP makes 393kW...

lightweight wheels model 3 performance 0-60 testing

I've seen this happen to a lot of M3Ps. They go with lighter wheels, but stickier and/or wider tires. Looking at Dragy & DragTimes results, the common theme seems to be that lighter, narrower and lower rolling resistance tires result in better acceleration. It seems that the M3P does a great...
  29. EVolv3d

lightweight wheels model 3 performance 0-60 testing

It's on my list as a consideration. It's about 1.5 lbs heavier per tire, 0.5" wider tread width, and larger diameter/circumference. Theoretically it should accelerate slower (weight, rotational inertia & gearing) and have worse range/efficiency, but of course have better lateral grip/handling...

lightweight wheels model 3 performance 0-60 testing

What most people don't include in their dragy posts are the battery temp (probably because they don't have SMT). Often you'll see the SOC, but that seems to be less of an influence as long as it's 70-80%+. However, the battery temp can have a significant impact. For example, at 86% SOC, 44C...

    2022 m3p no longer dropped

The overly stretched Pirelli tire profile makes the wheel gap appear larger due to less vertical sidewall. It creates an optical illusion that the car is raised. Most people complained about this after the switch from PS4S tires on the 8.5" wheel to the PZeros on the 9" wheel. If you compare...

Worth buying an M3P at this point?

If you plan to get a M3P or MYP, I'd try to hold out until the later half of the year if you're not in a rush. Both models will have upcoming updates. M3P: The CAT3 3D6 Hairpin DU (rear) and LG 5L battery should be on their way. The 3D6 DU paired with the LG battery will produce an extra 16kW...

    Model Year 2022 Refresh M3/MY

This is the important consideration. While the 3D6 hairpin wound rear motor should have the potential to make more power, it's ultimately software limited at the moment. The 3D1 & 3D6 rear motors in the MYP are both rated at 235kW. The CAT1 3D1 & CAT2 3D6 rear motors in the M3P are rated...

    Model Year 2022 Refresh M3/MY

Exactly. Unfortunately, my ‘22 M3P measures 0-4mm HIGHER than most LR measurements that I’ve seen. Of course this is easily within the margin of error considering all of the variables, but it’s definitely not the 5-10mm lower that Tesla had claimed in the past. With that said l, I don’t...

    Model Year 2022 Refresh M3/MY

It's an "optical illusion" until you measure the loaded ride height side-by-side :) The optical illusion does come into play when you're comparing the fender well gap between the wheel and top of the fender, but that doesn't change physical measurements from the body to ground. The part...

Worth buying performance over LR+boost JUST for the acceleration increase?

Those times are from analyzing stock cars on Dragy & DragTimes. The performance metrics on these cars are very consistent once the battery is warm and SoC is ~80%+. You'll get worse times if the battery is cold/not preheated. There is a noticeable difference in the butt dyno "feel" with a...
  38. EVolv3d

    Model 3 Performance feels slow?

This is 100% accurate. Your butt dyno quickly grows accustomed to the acceleration and g-force. I've done quite a bit of testing using my dragy at various battery temps and SoC. As long as you have sufficient charge, >60-70%, battery temp plays the largest role in the initial burst of...

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

Of course it could be done.. but not recommended for the amount of custom fabrication and programming required. Say goodbye to OTA software/firmware updates and a lot of the OEM functionality. Like @MasterC17 said, it wouldn't make sense to do it in a street driven Tesla. It would cost a ton...

Worth buying performance over LR+boost JUST for the acceleration increase?

If you're going by acceleration and "butt dyno" feel alone, then no. The LR AB is going to feel plenty fast, especially depending on what car you're coming from. Regardless of which model you go with, it's often one of the fastest accelerating cars that an average person has driven. There's...

Unexpected 100% volume since last update?

@father_of_6 yes, that seems to be the problem. The same thing is happening with my wife’s iPhone 13 Pro Max since the xmas update. As @freeAgent and @Randino mentioned, you can lower the Ringer and Alerts volume as a band-aid to save your eardrums. The issue appears to be that the...

Going to order a new Model 3 performance. Should I consider the long range AWD?

Track mode is really the main selling point for the M3P. It's required for any competitive track days. Keep in mind that track mode’s purpose is primarily cooling and changing the handling balance (power distribution through turns), reducing stability assist/traction control and increasing...

Going to order a new Model 3 performance. Should I consider the long range AWD?

It really depends on your goals and budget. I think the biggest questions are: Will you ever track the car (autocross or road course)? If so, track mode is a must have. Will you regret not getting the "best" with the Performance model? Given that you have a Z06, my guess is yes :) If the...

The part numbers should be different. The old part numbers for the M3P front spring/damper were originally: LH Damper: 1044363-04-B RH Damper: 1044368-04-B Spring: 1044379-04-B My '22 M3P does have revised part numbers (-C). This probably changed around the time of the refresh. LH Damper...

You could also compare ground clearance as it’s likely a limiting factor with the battery in the floor. I believe that the M3P is supposed to be ~10mm lower compared to the standard versions. The ground clearance should be ~5.1-5.2” vs the standard 5.5” (~130 vs 140mm). I did a quick...

    Model Year 2022 Refresh M3/MY

You can still measure from the center of the wheel hub to the arch of the fender as that effectively eliminates the wheel/tire difference to compare the spring height. This was ~15.75” on my stock ‘22 M3P.
  47. EVolv3d

    Model Year 2022 Refresh M3/MY

My ‘22 M3P measures right around 28.25” as well. Like others have said, the stretched Pirelli tire profile makes the wheel gap appear larger due to less vertical sidewall.

Great news for Tesla Model 3 owners with Pirelli PZEROs!

Took advantage of Pirelli's warranty at America's tire. My rear passenger tire had an impact bubble from my wife going through another pothole 🤦‍♂️ However, I wasn't as lucky as the OP. My America's Tire store wasn't familiar with Pirelli's road hazard replacement warranty and it required...

    Ingenext Boost Modules [aftermarket]

I reached out to them as they've claimed to be working on a "Stage 3" for the M3P for quite some time. They replied with: We know that the MYP makes a healthy ~20-30 HP/LB-FT more than the M3P at higher speeds based on the power output and 3rd party dyno comparisons (with the same DU &...
